âHow can I translate my writing process to other work outside of this classroom?â
I can translate my writing process to other work outside of this classroom in a wide amount of different ways. First being in a professional standpoint. In my job in the future I know there will be circumstances that I will need to professionally write certain things or send important emails. Another instance I can translate the writing process can be in a more personal and pleasurable way. I enjoy keeping a journal when I travel and have done so ever since I was little. Now that I am able to be more organized with writing maybe I can use that knowledge to create a more qualified and put-together journal.
I agree that improving your writing process now will benefit your future career path by having a greater ability to write in general. I also liked how you would use your writing process to better your journal writing because I didnât think about this.Â

I can translate my writing process to other work outside the classroom by improving on the general writing process which will improve my ability to write emails/letters. Becoming familiar with the writing process will allow me to craft things such as resumes or analysis articles easily as I will have a solid understanding of how to write meaningful pieces of work. Using the outline phase of the writing process will benefit anything you are writing by organizing your ideas into separate bodies of text and formulating a concise thesis. Other parts of the writing process such as the editing and revision step will improve your work making it more appealing to the viewer.Â

I think the most challenging assignment so far has been the rhetorical analysis. I do not think Iâve ever focused on an authors rhetoric before. It was a new challenge that I was not used to writing about.
I do not think that my writing has improved very much. I do think that I have improved my revising skills though. I also prefer in person classes rather than online learning. I learn better in person so that may affect my improvement in my classes.
I agree with your most challenging assignment choice because I also struggle with analyzing a writers diction. I also agree that this English class being all online makes it harder for me to learn writing strategies. Â
Tumblr Journal 12
The most challenging assignment Iâve completed this semester was the rhetorical analysis mainly because I havenât been exposed to writing one since my senior year in high school. I found it the most challenging assignment because it took time for me to relearn the outline of a rhetorical analysis paper.Â
I feel that my writing has improved this semester when it comes to where to position main ideas throughout a paper. The activity that helped me understand text positioning more clearly was actually when we participated in the peer review groups. The groups helped me because each member had their own ideas that benefitted my paper. Another way my writing has improved is more concise ideas when dealing with my topic sentence/main ideas.Â

My counter argument I plan to address in my infographic is: With everything technology is used for and what it offers to society, is it solely your fault to be addicted to your screen?
-Firstly, technology, more specifically, social media is used on an day-to-day basis. Roughly 80% of Americans use social media so itâs safe to say that social media is normalized into our society. Technology is used for practically everything and some of the biggest companies in the world settles their products around technology/social media. You canât necessarily blame the consumers for becoming addicted for how normalized technology has become.
-Secondly, to many, technology is more than just a âdeviceâ. Many will take advantage of the unique features, whether thatâs from an iPhone or an Xbox or anything along those lines, and use it to distract themselves from the world. To them, technology is their âCoping Mechanismâ
When thinking about my audience, I believe this can be referred to any age but even more directly to the teens and younger adults. Addiction is found at any age but you typically see it more in teens and younger adults than any other age group due to the marketing strategy be directly towards them.
I think your points do a great job at refuting your counter-argument made because you provide actual facts for why people are addicted to technology. I think your counter argument fits great with your article because youâre able to display to your audience how technology is addictive and how you canât blame the user for that addiction. One thing I would add is a statistic on technology addiction among teens to prove that teens are more targeted by technology companies than older adults.Â

In his article "How tech created a global village â and put us at each otherâs throats", Nicholas Carr argues that technology is an effective communication tool that can either be used for good or bad. Technology can be used to help bring people together, but human nature can also cause technology to be used for social division.
-Â The amount of time spent using technology among young adults has steadily increased from 2015 to now.
-Â People who use social media for longer are more likely to develop symptoms of depression.
In my counterargument I include the logical appeal (logos) by providing facts and statistics on the use of social media. This infographic is not inteded for a specific audience, but is mainly catered to anyone interested in social media statistics/uses of social media.Â

It is important to evaluate a source because some sources, even those that appear credible, do not always contain credible information. One of the most important things I was reminded of from the chapter was to investigate an article thoroughly before deciding to use it for research.
This knowledge changes the way I read and think about an article by reminding me to always check the credibility of the information I am using in research. It is easy to mistake false information as being credible. Being reminded of this knowledge changes how I will look for articles and information on the web by the websites I decide to use and the credibility of the information contained in the article.
I agree that you should investigate a source before deciding to include its information. Itâs important to be hesitant when you donât know if an article is credible because you donât want to include false information in your research.Â
Tumblr Journal 10
It is important to evaluate a source because a valuable source will have valid information. Some websites donât have the proper citations to their claims making them seem false and misleading. The most important thing I learned from reading this weeks chapter is to make sure the author of the source is credible. I feel like this step is most of the time overlooked and itâs important to have a credible author so that you can trust their information.
This knowledge will change the way I read articles in the future by making me pay more attention to the little details of each source I come across. When I come across an article for information, the first thing I know to check is the authors credibility and his purpose for writing. This will help me to understand what kind of information the author is giving his readers. The next important thing I learned to do is check how relevant the information is because if itâs too old then the information could have changed.Â
This knowledge will change the way I read articles on the web by making me search for reliable sources of knowledge. Instead of clicking the first website for information, I can now find which websites include truthful information.Â

This article applies to both sides of the argument by giving credible opinions by respected sources in the industry. The authors are Aaron Smith and Janna Anderson. The audience is for anyone who is interested about robots potentially taking future jobs. The setting talks about the job market being changed by the year 2025. The format is an article that consists of credible quotes stating their ideas about the topic.
I liked your title slide because it goes very well with the topic of technology and includes creative images and font. Your source also seems reliable and is relatable to the topic of robots taking over future jobs. The article looks like it includes good research material dealing with your topic.Â

- This photo was found on the internet and it seems to target a younger (teen/20âs) crowd due to the setting of the picture at a concert. The images purpose is to persuade the audience that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ has a quality camera to âcapture life as it happens.â
- The image employs rhetorical appeals by using pathos. It uses pathos (passion and emotion) to grab the readers attention and convincing the audience that this is a great camera to capture lifes memories, such as a concert like the one in the picture.
-this picture uses alignment by having the screen of the phones camera big and in front of the crowd with a good picture. This picture shows contrast between technology and real life experiences.
- This image affects my understanding of the subject because it causes the audience to want to do more research on the phone due to the persuasion within the image.
My advertisement dealt with technology as well and one reoccurring theme Iâve seen throughout their ads is that they mainly target a younger generation because teenagers are the main users of technology in society today.Â
Tumblr Journal 8
I found this advertisement on the internet and it appears to be targeting anyone young or old who uses technology for fun or a job. The purpose is to persuade the audience that this laptop is portable by including that itâs the âthinnestâ notebook.
Does the image employ rhetorical appeals? This advertisement employs pathos by influencing people into believing this laptop would be a good purchase because it is portable.
Does the image utilize the CRAP principles of design? (contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity) This image clearly utilizes alignment and contrast since its designed intention is to seem sleek.Â
How does this image reflect or affect your understanding of your subject? This image affects my understanding of technology by seeing how technology companies create their ads in order to persuade their audience to believe in their product.

One piece of information, or advice depending on how you take it, that stuck out to me in the article âHow To Write The Perfect Sentenceâ was the quote âOrwell saw the plain English sentence as the sword of existential truth, a cure-all for the bad faith of modern life.â I couldnât agree more with this statement. Iâve always been a firm believer in the fact that words are more powerful than bullets and this is another example of a very influential person agreeing with that.
The part that really shocked me though was when later in the paragraph, Orwell was quoted saying âIf it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out,â. This confused me at first because the two statements almost contradict themselves. Then, after giving it more thought, it became clear to me what Orwell was trying to say. I believe that he was trying to make a point that often times, people use to many words to pad their sentences and make them sound better that they end up loosing the entire meaning they originally intended for the sentence to have. They either do this or just make themselves sound stupid. Orwell liked to get to his point without all the âfluffâ distracting the people. He believed if worded correctly, a sentence doesnât need any âfluffâ. This is something I agree with and intend to incorporate into my future writings.
I liked the Orwell quote you chose that resonated with you most because I agree by constructing a powerful sentence you can change how people look at things because you right it in a way that seems like truth.
Tumblr Journal 7
In the article âHow to write the perfect sentenceâ by Joe Moran, the author exemplifies writing advice given by infamous authors. One piece of advice that stuck out to me given by George Orwell is ââIf it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out,â he ordered. This advice resonated with me because in my writing I struggle to get to the main point of my idea due to unnecessary words. It also helped me understand how to cut down run on sentences which is another aspect of writing I lack in. Orwell gave writers this advice because he thought using less words in a sentence made the sentence idea clearer.Â

During previous peer-reviewed papers, some helpful suggestions would be staying on topic, checking grammatical errors, and having my paper flow well. I think these were all helpful when writing my paper.
I donât think I have had many negative experiences with peer-reviewing. I think most suggestions can be useful for your paper.
I think a peer reviewing your paper can be very helpful when writing. I like how you can get another pov on your paper and they can help you improve.Â
I agree with your helpful suggestions, especially the flow of your paper because I have a hard time doing that in my own papers. I also find it helpful to have a separate point of view in order to help you make your paper stronger.Â
Tumblr Journal 6
The type of suggestions for peer-reviewed papers that are helpful for me are suggestions dealing with the content of my paper such as diction and organization. This is because Iâm weak at rearranging my own ideas to make them sound the best. The type of suggestions that help me the least are suggesting using stronger verbs mainly because itâs easily noticeable in writing for me.Â
Another thing about the peer review process that I like is to allow multiple people to review my writing so they can all put in their own input on what they would change. I like having different peer reviewers because it allows me to choose which revision outlook is most beneficial.Â
