on one hand i think it's unhealthy to get so much personal hang up on a manga's author. noda did this noda did that, noda thinks this noda thinks that. at the end of the day no we don't know what he thinks and we're projecting our own thoughts on him. ideally the author shouldn't matter in a story, their background their personality their views should be irrelevant. but on the other hand gk does handle a lot of sensitive topics so the author's own identity is sometimes integral to understanding why he might have gone with this or that choice. after all he DOES come from a people that are famous about denying their war crimes and he DOES use a culture whose people his own ancestors have been actively subjugating for centuries - no matter how respectfully and carefully researched - as his setting. how do we strike the balance here? mindfully
