category: drabble, oneshot, character birthday
featured character: Yaku Morisuke (Haikyuu!!)
a domestic scene, amidst the bright night lights of the city shining through the flowing curtains, illuminating the vast expanse of your shared bedroom: you, your head resting on his bare chest, arms loosely wrapped around his well-built frame; him, his fingers threading themselves through your hair, soft breaths occasionally rustling a few strands.
with every fiber of your being, you loved this man. and you have, way back since high school. present at every game, award ceremony, graduation. every high point and every low point in your lives, you were there for each other. as you were his pillar, he was yours. your emotional support, your ray of hope, the light of your life. your solace.
his decision on a russian team was met only with support and excitement, expressing your joy for him in gentle affections. you’d pushed aside the sadness that had welled in your chest, the long-distance relationship you both had settled on leaving worry and doubt ever present in your heart and mind. he read you like a book, the night before his departure spent whispering sweet nothings and gentle assurances to you, vowing so boldly on his life that he’d do nothing to hurt you, that his heart was as good as yours.
and on his return, he’d lived up to that promise.
so here, you lay with him, gentle smile on your lips, listening to your hearts in sync. a pleasant evening, warm in his embrace, reminiscing. your grip around him tightened in a hug, reaching up to bury your nose in the crook of his neck, basking in his familiar scent, so comforting to you. “Is something wrong?” He’d ask upon noticing your change in behavior, voice rough around the edges. “It’s nothing, Mori, love.” Came your reply, nuzzling further into him. the vibrations from his hum providing further comfort to you. “It’s just... I love you.
“and happy birthday, my love.”
