WHATS UP WORLD LOOK WHO’S BACK
you are both utter children.
helleslicht:
“You don’t look like a priest to me, Mister Tactician. So kindly, please, shut up.”
Before he has YOU on YOUR knees.
bold of you to assume i’ve never been around religious practices before in my life and thus would know nothing of the sort.
sounds fake. really fake. priests, only on their knees just for prayer?
@helleslicht // x
oh, but he is so terribly aware of it; aware the odds, aware of the gambles. he is cautious by nature. numbers are oft stacked against him & he is left scrambling to find the correct path. such would keep him up at night, nose pressed to parchment & maps ‘til his fingers were sore and smudged with ink.
“ no, you’re right. i’m sorry. ”
he concedes easily, a soft apology uttered on a heavy breath. the man is right to call him out for his indecision; on robin’s shoulders is the fate of not only his friends & comrades, but that of a village that has done kindness in allowing their group to rest. innocent lives. still is robin less than eager to jump to such action at the beck & call of the priest. no, there should be a better course of action to take.
“ we’ll be overrun if we run right into them. while i don’t want to dismiss your abilities outright, we both have our limits. we should approach this less recklessly. ”
but, it is true what ain says. waste any more time & it wouldn’t be long before all effort to devise any semblance of a plan would be for naught.
“ what if... ah, you see that wooded area? just over there? perhaps if we were to split our numbers into two groups, a smaller one & a larger one. the larger hides among the trees and brush, while the smaller would draw the attention of the brigands. then we would be able to flank them & overtake their numbers. “
"If I'm you, and you're me.... then who's that??"
“ that is also me, i’d assume. and this is too much of a headache. “
corrin:
Was that so? He never talked about the other army. Was it Nohr? No, she would of known him. Hoshido, then? Wouldn’t she have seen him while she was there? Where did he come from, exactly…? Robin was more of a mystery to her than most of things she was facing right now. A puzzle that gave no clues. No context on how to solve them. A riddle that made round-a-bouts in her mind as she tried to take it apart – him apart.
Though his voice held so much confidence as she listened to him explain, her mind wandered for a bit. They held the same reasons in mind on why those paths were less desired. Interest drawing her back to the reality as he began to explain his plan with the village. It stung a little when he mentioned that they looked like they mad money, and were easy to take down. Was it her leadership that showcased it? She tried to be as much of a pacifist as she could
Shoulders tensed and rose. He was right about that. Bandits weren’t afraid to cut them down, either. No one was. Mercenaries tried to swindle her for money, or assassins continued their tries to end her life. If someone knew where they were, everyone’s lives would be in danger. It’s why she kept them all in the Astral Plane for days on end. Hiding them from the other realm beyond the gate. Was it a coward’s way? It gave them time to plan and strategize, though the occasional invasion from Vallites was still a problem. Corrin’s stomach slowly turned in on itself the images of a worse-case scenario came to light. Swallowing air with a hard swallow, her eyes finally drew away to look at ambers. Even if she donned a mask, the scarlets broke it. Unable to truly hide what she felt, for her heart always rested on her sleeve and cheek. No matter what.
No matter what…. Sacrifices would be made. They would suffer, no matter the route. Inquisitions would be their advantage. There were so many minds that could formulate grand plans. Corrin was better at planning the smaller battles they fought. Robin could cover the scale. Leo’s highlight was large-scale battles, if they needed a third mind to pose questions to. With so many, why was it so hard? She never got that.
“If we can get to the village before the bandits find us, we should be able to be granted sanctuary. Even if the ruffians don’t listen to it, we can protect not only them, but ourselves. We could set up a parameter around the village and leave at first light.” Act as bodyguards? It wouldn’t be the first time, but nor would it be the last. A small smile slowly curled upon rosette lips.
“If we can’t stay there, we’ll just have to push on until nightfall and set up camp. There aren’t any Dragon Veins in this area, from my knowledge. I’ve sent out scouts to take a look at their numbers, and any traps they may have set up. They should be back soon. I’ll send for Jakob to have them report to us as soon as they arrive. Subaki is currently going over our weapons, while Hinoka is looking over our supplies once more. I believe Sakura and Elise are preparing themselves for the worst-case, and doing some final runs to the shops here for medical supplies.” Saizo and Kagero were some of her best. She would of sent Kaze as well, but one of the ‘ninja trio’ needed to stay here. She knew the pair would be fine on their own, and she had full faith in their abilities. Not only scouting, but disarming and setting up collisions on their own. To trick the enemy into attacking itself. If it would of worked or not, who knows. There’s a pause in the air before she changes the subject back to his plan. Corrin wished to inquire him about his other family of sorts. Could she…? The worry of memories imposing upon Robin worried her. When she found him, he seemed so out of it.
“How much time will you need? Is there anything I can do to assist you? I may not be the best of assistances, but I’m willing to give it my all. It would be better to have two minds work together, rather than one.” All her resources were his as well. The dragoness knew more than she let on to others. All that knowledge stored within her mind, how she hid it all not even she understood. There was something she did know, though. She had all her trust in him. They would make it out OK, one way or another.
he twirls the quill between thumb & index fingers, and upon his face does an expression of deep thought rest. this isn’t his army─this he knows. these aren’t the same people he’s fought beside for years, and by no means were their skills anything he has proper knowledge & grasp on. robin is fighting odds he can only combat with the limited knowledge he can scrape together on their campaign, ( even when he’s with them on the astral plain─a little pocket between worlds─he only can take in so much at once ) and to play tactician once more under these circumstance is nothing short of foolish.
and yet, in spite of this shortcoming, he finds he’s comfortable. used to what has been handed to him, in a sense. had it not been for this war─this damned conflict between two countries & this... this anankos sort─robin might have thought it no different than being back in ylisse. this was, of course, an exaggeration; with how their words would roll off their tongues & mix with their dialects, ( all so strange and new to hear ) there would be no way for robin to truly feel as if he fit in.
there is a lull of silence between her words and his next. he mulls over what she says. takes it in & pulls together his thoughts ‘fore he responds. corrin is considerate of the worst─she states every measure she has had the others taken, just in case─a situation he prays he’ll never see a second time.
“ it’s best we work together, corrin. there’s only so much i can do on my own in these circumstances, and i find it wise to have your council while we work out our next move. i shouldn’t need much time. a few hours, at the most. “
when he speaks, he addresses corrin fully. dark irises fall from the map at his fingertips and raise to meet crimson─he turns to look at her with a glimmer of determination that pervades the entire army when she leads them. she’s a natural-born leader, he realises. not that she has been raised for the task, but simply falls into place like it’s where she’s been her entire life. ( it reminds him of himself, to that extent ) and, gods, it’s like he’s with the shepherds again. she’s that charm about her that inspires him the same way it inspires her army─the same sort which chrom possessed that had robin ready & willing to go the extra mile.
“ most troupes of bandits have a ring leader of sorts. in my experience, they rarely ever match an army’s number, but they’re clever─they know their terrain and how to use it against even a large number like ours. but if they have a chain of command, we might be able to disrupt it and get the rest to abandon their post. “
robin pauses & adds:
“ this, of course, depends on what saizo and kagero tell us. “
indeed; he can spend the next few nights mulling over his plans, but without that crucial information, robin may as well suggest they just flip a coin. gambling is a vice he cares little to play with & he’ll not resort to it if it can be helped. ( lady luck is one woman he doesn’t wish to have persistent in his life ) he traces his index finger along the map to the village and continues speaking─
“ my other suggestion is along the lines of what you’ve said─try to find a way around the bandits and get to the village. we can barter a place to rest in favour of protecting it, but that could also draw attention to them once we leave. it’s likely the bandits have set their sights onto it in the past, and we don’t know how well they can hold up with or without us.
like i said, it’s circumstantial. when i have a better idea of what we’ve ahead of us, it won’t be too hard to solidify either plan.
but i’m confident that we’ll be able to make it to the village with minimal problems. “
as a whole, he refrains from saying. it’s strange to him─her pacifist nature toward conflict. while he is no more willing to fall into line for fighting a war, ( much less, one he’s no place in ) robin realises that to pursue peace means one must struggle to achieve it. but, he understands her stance. had he been as close to his own family as corrin was, perhaps his own story would have been different.
gladion:
“What? When did we get a fuckin jar for this?”
Thats two coins now Gladion
“Does this count in the infirmary too because let me tell you you can get rich off Vaike alone.”
“ this is the fourth jar this month, thank you. now put. the money. in the jar. funding an army isn’t cheap. “
typenullandvoid replied to your post: “ no swearing in the barracks. “
“……Fffffuck”
holds out a jar.
“ gladion. “
“ no swearing in the barracks. “
do you think you'll go back to chrom someday? maybe? please??
ah? yea, i don’t see why not. it’s not like i’ve lost his muse or anything. robin just flows easier, and i get distracted.
eh, i’ve got time to kill before work. i can login on his blog too for you.
@valliteprince
“ ah─there you are corrin. just who i was looking for. “
hands close the leather binding of the book he’s pulled himself from; a thin finger holding the place between the pages where he’s left off. a curl teases the corner of lips ( his is an expression one might bear if they were a child in a candy store ) and he raises his free hand in greeting toward the prince.
“ i would have stopped you sooner, but─ well, i’ve got to admit, your lands have the most fascinating and in depth of history i’ve read yet.
i hope you’re well today? “
corrin:
@grimtact – [ x ]
She hates this. She HATES this. Why do these choices all end up in bloodshed? The mountain pass would take longer, but tales of horrid creatures plagued the grounds. The middle road, the one Robin suggested, would be the easiest. It held a village that they could use as a rest stop, but the bandits controlled that area. It also laid at the base of the mountains. Avalanches were common. The last road was out of the question. The river was too wide to cross, and it moved too fast. She had scouts go check it out a few days back. Fingers curled as she stared at the map before them.
“… We have no other choice. We’ll have to go that way. I rather take on bandits than rabid animals. At least there’s a chance to negotiate.” What a joke. Corrin knew that, too, but even then – did she say it out of reassurance? “We’re low on supplies, too. If we were to take the mountain pass, some of us might as well end up dead.” Her tone dropped when she spoke, guilt already started to wrack her body at the thought. Knuckles turned even more white, nuzzling the table. It’s not hard to see that she’s still in a debate with herself. Her logc trying to argue against her empathy. That’s why she turned to Robin.
“What else is there to do? The last time we took a mountain road, we…” The memories of that night haunted her. Was it before Robin joined her? He’s been around for so long that she forgot just how long. At least, it felt like it. The night was long as they battled for hours with no break. As soon as they got out of the pass, their bodies were bloodied and tired. Bones that were broken were infected from the cold. Some people…lost their lives. One of them was a close servant that she knew from her days in the fortress. “I can’t risk putting us through something like that again.
“I’m sorry, Robin. Thank you for your advice. I think we can still pull through. Your input has really helped us. I wonder – is this a natural gift, or were you a tactician for another?”
robin has seen it. perhaps not with corrin’s army, but he’s seen his troops and comrades crumble ‘neath the weight of the elements & wear of every battle; witnessed friends that fall to another’s lance, or meet the wrong end of a sword. the tragedy of war is company he keeps too frequently at his side. and though he doesn’t understand it fully ( this war, sparked by a third entity beyond his comprehension ) he still offers his insight to aid the company he’s found a second home in.
“ i was a tactician for another’s army, before coming here. i had been found, just the same as you had found me, and was almost immediately appointed to the role. you could say it’s both a talent of mine and something i have experience in. “
such words flow from his lips like he’s uttered them one too many times, yet he sounds so fond of their memory. robin has settled so quickly in with corrin’s army, as if he’s been there for years. it’s like he’s once more with the shepherds─with his friends. ( like a tightly knit family, they are ) he feels his heart flutter with a warmth─for with the shepherds he has a home; a place he’s fought so hard to protect─yet it... bears the faintest twinge of melancholy.
─when will he see them again? he would be lying if he said he didn’t ask himself this near daily.
bandaged fingers ( fresh with scrapes & burns gained on their campaign thus far ) glide over parchment and trace the mountain path. he’s at a disadvantage here & he knows it; the terrain surrounding them is one he’s not familiar with. all he can hope is the map he’s so graciously been provided is as accurate as they come─perhaps if he is lucky, he the path he charts for corrin will lead them to safety with minimal resistance. ( he knows his luck is not oft on his side, but nonetheless does he try to win it’s favour )
“ while there’s little risk of conflict through the mountains, we’ll no doubt lose more than half the army to the elements. it’s dangerous to traverse with little knowledge of the terrain, especially with how unprepared we are. to take that path would certainly lead us to our deaths. “
he speaks plainly, and crosses the path out with the quill pen in his dominant hand.
“ the closer to the border we get, the more troops from both nohr & hoshido we’ll run into. while we can preach about peace until we’re blue in the face, we’re marked traitors to both counties and i wouldn’t doubt they’ll run us through on the spot. “
and again, does he make a bold mark on the map; a solid x scratched in ink to follow his words.
“ bandits aren’t preferable, but are likely our best bet. in these times, i wouldn’t put it past them to be particularly cutthroat, especially toward us. i’ll be honest─ we look the sort to have not only money, but are easy to take down. i’d like to humour the idea that we can talk our ways out of a confrontation.─i’m no more of a fan of fighting than you are─however i have doubts that we’ll manage to rest at the village ahead without some difficulty.
but... i might be able to work with this.
i’ll need some more time, of course. perhaps if i can get a better idea of the numbers we’ll be facing or what their gang’s organisation looks like, i should be able to figure out a way to cut down the effort it takes to get there. “
cynthia:
“Well, she’s seen stranger. She is my heroic steed after all.”
Cynthia gave the tactitian a cheerful grin of her own before heading towards the pegasus, beckoning the tactician to follow her with a wave of her hand
“C’mon! She won’t bite. Not with me around!”
all things considered, he’s oughtn’t be so surprised to discover for fact that her pegasus has seen odder than he. ( yet robin is still taken back by such a remark ) she turns from him and urges him to follow─to which he obliges & joins alongside her without a moment’s hesitation.
“ ah─a heroic steed indeed! fit for the noble pursuit of a hero.
still, i should have waited for you, lest i get acquainted with her hooves. “
"What's up you raging gay scalely?"
“ never speak to me again. “
