i wonder if magic is real, but only in a really mundane way.

when i was little i could almost inerringly switch back to disney channel right as the ads ended when i was channel surfing.

maybe youve never accidentally crushed a ladybug underfoot. maybe your microwave popcorn never burns. maybe you can spin around lots and lots of times before you get dizzy.

is that magic??

honestly im not sure if these are magic or just small, invisible skills. im not sure which i like better.

My ankles never twist.  I’ve always been rather active, I did track for five years (all the running events), and one time while running I stepped in a hole, lost my shoe, and landed sprawling about five feet away.  I pulled my shoe on and kept running.

I have a coworker who somehow makes better coffee than everyone else even though the grounds come pre-measured and all you have to do is load them up and push a button.  I have a friend who has inch long nails that never break.  My brother can copy origami just by looking at the finished product and my mother can do the same with knots.  I knew a guy who never made an error when typing.

Maybe we all have little magics, the kind that you don’t realize you have.  Just tiny things that make your life slightly better but are completely unnoticed on the outside.

#never understood krum hate #he’s like what everyone wanted draco to be #surrounded by dark magic and bad influences #treated like royalty #even without his famed seeker status he was pureblood elite #and yet he never treated anyone as lesser #he liked muggle born hermione for her mind AND physical beauty #thought harry was a great quidditch player #and never once compared harry to his own skills because he’s humble #was genuinely flattered that ron wanted his autograph #liked cedric and made a poin to tell harry so #also told harry he would be an ally in the fight against voldemort #the only time he did dark magic was under the imperius curse #to which he can’t be held responsible #three years later he talked to an in-disguise harry at bill and fleur’s wedding #just a regular person he didn’t know was harry #and investe himself in that conversation #he made such an effort to interact at hogwarts and i feel like most the fandom dislikes him for no reason #because he was the type of character who wanted to rise above the expectations others held of him #he knew durmstrang’s bad rep and actively wished to do better #i don’t know y'all i just think we should all appreciate viktor krum more (kneelb4todd)

I get sick of tumblr’s version of self care, which 90% of the time threads into this beautifully: go pet a fuzzy cute animal! pile up your favorite blankets from childhood and watch disney movies! take a nap! play a game from this list of cute soothings games! 

More realistically: go take a shower because it’s been three days. Wash the dishes that have been in the sink since last Friday that you can smell as soon as you open your door because rotting food stinks. Pick all your clothes off the floor because that’s where your entire wardrobe is and you’ve already cried today because you tripped over a sweater and realized the cat puked on it. Call someone who can give you enough courage to pay that bill you’ve been ignoring. Put away the crackers because that’s all you’ve eaten for two days straight. Apologize to the friends who are worried sick about you, and if you can’t at least let them know you are ok and need space. 

One of the most empowering types of self-care is responsibility, but tumblr just wants to sit in a closet strung with fairy lights and read their favorite fic.  

“Cute” self-care for “cute” mental issues. That’s not reality.
