Neat Music Site Spotlight #2:
The next music site we'd like to present is Obscurify ! Obscurify is a website that connects to your spotify that tells you some interesting statistics about your music listening habits :)
Like many spotify websites, obscurify tells you the basic stuff about your spotify, such as your top genres, songs, artists, and a recommeded playlist. You can also see your top songs and artists as far back as August 2019, and refresh the playlist option to get new recommendations.
Here is where the interesting stuff comes in, Obscurify will give you an obscurity rating, which tells you how obscure your music is, and compares it with the general spotify usership and within different countries.
When you click on "Open summary" on your obscurity rating, you can also get more specific stats between your all time and current listening habits.
In addition to obscurity ratings, Obscurify will also tell you your moods ! You can see how happy , energetic, dancable, and acoustic your music is in comparison to the usership of the country you chose.

Neat Music Site Spotlight #1: everynoise
Hey guys! Gonna start doing a neat music website spotlight every monday. basically what this is is i’ll give a brief overview of one of the cool music sites ive found over the past couple years. First up, and you’ll have seen this coming if you know me, is everynoise.com!
everynoise is a website that i found way back at the end of 2018, and since then it’s been my favorite website on the internet. i share it with everybody because i wish i could have found it sooner, and i like to think im doing that favor for at least one person. it’s a map of over 5 thousand music genres, based on spotify data. revolutionary, especially when i first found it and spent a straight 8 hours on it putting off an advanced comp essay.
As for the arrangement of the genres, a blurb at the bottom of the main page says that “in general down is more organic, up is more mechanical and electric; left is denser and more atmospheric, right is spikier and bouncier.” What this means in practice is that the top of the map is stuff like EDM, house, etc, and at the bottom is mostly classical stuff.
For each genre on the map, you can click on it and it will play a sample of a song that represents that genre, and if you click on the arrow that shows up you’ll get a map of all the artists that the algorithm has put under that genre. Along with this, you can look up all the genres an artist falls under at the top.
Lastly, the bottom has a lot of neat smaller stuff that’s all definitely worth checking out!
