it's like he can't sleep anymore. like every time he closes his eyes, a sadistic imagination takes over to haunt him time & time again. not carbon copies of the same dream, but every outcome is the same. blood on his hands that isn't his, & the most important person to him lifeless in his arms. she almost had been.

with a hand wiping across his face, attempting to rid the exhaustion from his eyes- he shifts his body to angle towards his sleeping sister. octavia looks nothing short of peaceful, save for the cuts and bruises that scatters various places of her skin. perhaps a month, two months ago, he would've been more peeved they were there. now he's grateful that's all there is.

a yawn is held back by the grit of his teeth, eyes glancing from their small fire for the little warmth they're granted back to octavia. the action is done a few more times before he makes a hesitant move closer to her. at first it's a simple brush of his fingertips against the top of her hand. the pads stroking the skin back & forth before stopping, more hesitance behind his action as his fingers lace with his sister's. her hand is already warm despite the chill, but it comforts him-- now using his thumb to stroke the side of her hand. all the while with his eyes staring right back at the fire.
