Love, Politics, and Growing Up
Here at Growing Up Zine, we are going absolutely NUTS celebrating this amazing step America has made towards gay rights today. The political climate has so much to do with how we grow up and impacts every transition we make in life, every year, every day, and every breath.
The bottom line is this: Love who you choose, love who you love. Love others for loving truly, bravely, and purely. Love yourself for not only being a vehicle of love, but for who you are. Love yourself for getting up each morning to face your battles in life and fight the fight. Love those who stand by your side, even when the battle is dangerous or seems impossible. Love those who you call heroes, for bringing you inspiration. Love those who you call enemies, for though they challenge you, they need your love the most. And finally, love freely and endlessly, for love knows no boundaries, and love will always be the greatest thing a life can bring to the world.
So three cheers for our nation on this special day, and a shout out to everyone who never lost faith and helped make this day possible. The fight for civil rights regarding sexuality, race, gender, and all those currently experiencing oppression is not yet over, so we must find strength in this victory so that the fight against hate becomes more real and stronger than ever.
Here’s to never giving up, to hope, to equality for all, and to sweet, sweet lovin’.
