I mean NieR Automata and Witcher 3 managed to make significant amounts of money without a single lootbox or exploitative amounts of DLC but sure.
Yeah, okay, guys. Games Totally Need Lootboxes to Make Any Money.
honestly it gets even more embarrassing because NieR Automata is a Distant Sequel to a fairly obscure RPG that’s based on the premise of building off a bad non canon ending to another obscure RPG that’s based around a bunch of philosophical concepts and a post apocalyptic conceit while The Witcher series is a fairly obscure (outside of Poland at the time of Witcher 3′s release) series of dark fantasy novels and short stories about a horny, gritty, snarky monster hunter with generally masochistic tastes in women and yet both these games were runaway smash hits to the point they secured the financial future of both development studios
while the Star Wars license is basically a IT PRINTS MONEY level franchise and yet EA are barely releasing ANYTHING to do with it and screwing up what they DO release in the usual EA interference way
how much do you suck at actually making things for the games industry if you can’t make something a smash hit with a popular license and with at least a halfway decent quality game alone?
how much do you gotta suck to use a FUCKING STAR WARS LICENSE and yet still don’t think you can succeed enough at selling the damn game so you gotta use microtransactions to wring that last little bit of money out of people that already bought your damn thing?
it’s almost like EA is a bad publisher and developer that has barely any idea what actual people besides the demographics that just keep buying EA games want and don’t care to find out and will eventually collapse because sports and once every two year fpses aren’t going to be enough to make up for the massive deficits they’ve got from having to keep pouring insane amounts of money into graphics because that’s literally the only appeal the games have anymore
