āA New Chapter || Bomi & Ian
The compartment had been voice-silenced, only the sounds of the locomotiveās wheels tracking along the railway lines were noised and the passing forestās trees left him a sense of calm. He lolled against the seats; limbs and body sprawled as he was trying to make himself comfortable. It was going to be a long way back, he thought as a sigh rolled off his tongue. Hogwarts had been one hell of an experience that he knows. He gained a lot of memories from this year, his second year. From gaining a few new friend to witnessing an incidental fire in Potions class, he couldnāt wait for what the next year will bring.
A content hum was emitted as a smile had made itself known upon his lips. He was going to miss his school, that he was, but he admits that he has missed seeing his mother the most. He has literally been away from her for several months now; he believed that it was time to go home. His mind bubble had consisted of random thoughts; some held a meaningless purpose of existence and some were more critical than others. He was caught in the jumble mess of it, enough to not notice there had been another person at present by the compartment door.
By the time the small girl reaches the last compartment of the train, she's 99.9% certain that she'll be spending the train ride back to London standing in the hallway of the Hogwarts Express. Standing wouldn't be an issue, but she would of course much rather sit. It isn't as if there aren't enough space for all the students on the train, either, but from, "Go find another compartment, Gryffindor," to, "You can't sit with us, Fatty," Bomi found herself given excuse after excuse as to why she cannot sit in the compartments. If she had the choice, she'd sit with a group of Hufflepuffs, but luck has it that those compartments are all filled to the brim.
So there she is, having dragged her luggage down the entire length of the locomotive, standing at the door to the last compartment and trying to peek through the window that she actually cannot reach at her height. When her knocks go unheard, Bomi has a spark of hope that perhaps she's knocking on an empty compartment. It's with that thought that she slides the door to the side, opening herself to disappointment-- but of course it's not empty. At least the face is somewhat familiar, a face that she has seen in the Gryffindor common room. She hovers uncertainly at the door, waiting for some sort of acknowledgement by the boy that, she realises soon after, is clearly daydreaming. "Um," her voice is too timid, and she tries again, a little louder, "Um! Can I-- can I sit here?"
ā² caged lions ć ” w. namjoon
āĀ ā Itās an inexplicableĀ sentiment he feels towards the Gryffindor girl, having spent a lot of time together for him to deduce her capacity, which is why Namjoon was so convinced that she had high potential to become better, despite the crude words thrown in her direction. There was no way he would understand how she felt each time she thought sheād get better only to fall again, yet he admired how she had the strength to stand up each time. Nothing heād be able to confront with if he were in her position, for he never had to worry about grades to begin with.
The question had him lift an eyebrow in an amused manner, giving a reassuring spot above her hip, displaying he understood her reasoning either way, finding no offense in the question. Ā«Itās more of aĀ ā¹Ā must doĀ āŗ, eh.Ā» Nose scrunching at the thought, he hadnāt realized how his tone decreased the more he approached the subject. When would he find time forĀ himself, not his surroundings? « But hey, least we can make this look like a fun experience, instead of a sorta lame meeting for educational purposes, yeah?Ā Ā» His lip twitched with a smile at the idea, allowing her to get off of him.
« Darn those O.W.Ls, huh?Ā Ā» To some it might have looked like Namjoon was speaking just for the sake of it, but no, he truly understood the hardships and stress each one of them went through. Surely the reasoning might be different, but in the end all of them had one goal, which was graduating.Ā
That might be one of her best traits, her ability to continue on tirelessly like an ox, unable to struck down by the F's on her report cards; or it could easily be her worst trait, unable to admit defeat no matter the reality that stares her in the face. But at the end of the day, there isn't much else Bomi could do but to march on. Whether she'll find a career in the wizarding community or not, she has to at least graduate from Hogwarts. She couldn't imagine her parents being happy about having a drop-out as a daughter, and she had a little more pride than that to simply throw up her hands and claim that she cannot go on anymore (even if she feels that way half the time she's at school).
Knowing that she must have hit a sore spot (she has known him long enough to be able to read him), she reprimands herself for her big mouth, into which she so often puts her mouth. She had been sure to give him a reassuring squeeze before moving to the armchair over. "Well, I guess I'll be your entertainment this summer," in an attempt to lighten the mood, her eyebrows waggle suggestively, before she chortles with laughter. Though Bomi is making a joke out of it, there is some truth in her words-- having assumed that her summer at Hogwarts would be spent with others like her, and not many of her smarter friends, to see him here now had come as a surprise and a present of sorts.
"Yeah," her dejected sigh and slumped shoulders are of the comical variety, but she isn't completely stress-free about her situation. "You know what," the idea that occurs to her makes her sit up straighter, "You should tutor me this summer."
ć garden of words ćkyungsoo & bomi
Kyungsoo blinks once at her comment, surprised at how she can still joke under such circumstances. It dawns upon him (finally) that sheās used to it. Heās not shocked by the cruelty, repeated over time and with an arsenal of names updated each year, itās the resilience to handle all of this. āI suppose it is,ā he allows, picking up the flow and joining in the joke with honesty on his part. Allows a smile to surface on his usually impassive face ā perhaps to ease her into comfort. He wonders if heās made the wrong step, out of place and beyond his boundaries, as he notes the darkened features. Teeth digging into his lower lip, wondering how to save this situation.
"Are you doubting me?" he returns, playfulness mirrored off his older brother. Hopefully it passes off. It isnāt a skin he often wears, drawing pinches of his cheeks as Seungsoo asks him to lighten up. Humor is a trait he forbids himself to carry but apparently one that worms quickly into hearts. So he tries, leaning over and attempting to peer into her eyes as his lips are pulled into the form of a playful boy.
He permits it to stay until the muscles in his cheeks are tired and he draws back into the safety of his personal space. Tells himself that if the crowd behind him starts up once more, he would make his way to the librarian and ask her to escort them out. āA person like me has no right to comment but,ā once again out of the blue but heās puzzled at her nature. Is it truly all kindness or is there something else beneath those features, āāIf youāre searching for that one person that will change your life, take a look in the mirror.āā
Itās only when the quote is recited does he realize how it could be misinterpreted, but hopes Bomi understands where heās coming from. Matters should be taken into oneās own hands. At least that is what Kyungsoo taught himself since he understood that no one else was going to help him out along the way.
The question of how someone like her ended up in Gryffindor is often one that boggles the mind of this specific Gryffindor. In the house of bravery, Bomi is very much an outsider. The one feature that appears to allow her to fit more snugly into the family of the lions is her own sense of mischief, the one that she often hides behind in situations like these. Laughing, after all, is much easier than crying, even if that requires her to be self-depreciating at times. It isn't so much the jeers and snobbish looks from above that breaks her, but the demons standing in her shadows that she cannot run away from. Courage isn't needed to face off the strangers who snigger at the sight of her, to whom Bomi has mostly mastered the ability to tune out and ignore, but courage is needed to confront herself, someone she is much too familiar with, someone that she is afraid of.
It's with relief that she smiles when he doesn't question her method of dealing with this, all of this, and with gratefulness that she notes the mirth that replaces his normally steely mannerisms. In return, her grin is cheeky, "Oh, I'd never dare to~" She might pull off the act of an endearing brat if she isn't so tightly leashed by her low confidence. Even if the collar is cut off now, the ring will forever mark her neck, to remind her forever of her roots.
After his clearly intentionally audible words regarding her appearance, she doesn't think he'd turn around to blatantly comment on her weight. Besides, she was best at giving people the benefit of the doubt. Still, the advice comes as a surprise, and she wonders fleetingly if those are words she similarly tells himself. It doesn't seem like they're coming from nowhere, and when that's the case, it usually stands for guidance given to oneself. But she doesn't question it, doesn't intend to dig deep into his privacy when he's offering her civility that she doesn't so often receive amongst fellow students.
Her eyes turn back to the open pages laid out between them, and for a moment it may seem as if she might not comment on his words. When she does speak, her head remains dipped, and only her lips move to form her response, "Maybe one day, when I can finally look myself in the eye."
