Here are a few photos I snapped of Baby Noelle. We decided on Noelle because she was a Christmas rescue. We both fell in love with her and we will be keeping her.
Well, yesterday, I went to the pet store to get food for my piggies and some treats... I always check out their animals because I point out the ones that are sick and need treatment or purchase them myself and get them treatment. Its a humans duty to provide the best care they can to those who are dependent on them, and that includes animals. At first, I thought they only had dogs they were adopting out and guinea pig/rabbits lodging while families were on vacation. Then I saw rustling in the piggie pen and found this cutie. She was all alone and absolutely terrified because of the dogs. I talked to the employees and they were concerned about her because she was alone and people buy pigs in pairs, but also because they don't get any new stock for her to have friends for a week or so. She had already been alone for two days. That's a really long time for a developing guinea pig to be alone. We bonded instantly at the store so I took her home and spent most of the night with her. She's completely different. She's very social and talkative and chill. So you can really see now how bad the environment was for her. My fiance bought her for me for Christmas since no one else did anything nice for me. I didn't want anything for Christmas, I'm used to no one doing nice things for me. I'm really not used to getting things from people. So I decided for my gift, I'd do a good deed for someone else. And Noelle really needed it. She already loves me to pieces and she really likes my roommate too. She loves Eicha and yells at Beck when he's naughty. I don't put them together at all. I let them smell her so they knew who she was, but I am a responsible owner and don't want babies. True accidents happen, and I'm aware of the repercussions. That's why I intend on getting the boys neutered. For now, she is either handled in a lap or in her own cage. She's so small and fast anyway, if I let her free range, she's going to disappear. Even though we're piggy proof, she's so much smaller, she'll find some place to hide. She's really cute. I found out she's from a show breeder. She's related to the late Keifer too. You can see it in her face. My fiance threatened to take her back because he's upset with me. I can't find the receipt so either he has it or its gone. I went digging through the garbage for it. Not only do I already love her, but I don't want her going back to that environment. Its my job to keep her safe and care about her. No one else will.
We got a new tortoise! He's a Burmese Mountain Tortoise. My roommate brought him home today. He's very cute and friendly. But a little shy. We're already on a friendly start. He poked his head out at me and did the reptilian head bob to say hello. Now, you'll notice his shell is deformed. He has scoliosis, which is probably why we have him. We take in animals that no one else wants, and usually those animals are the ones who don't look pretty or have special needs. Another one of our tortoises, Jelly the small Sulcata, also has scoliosis. When he was rescued, he was half dead and my roommate nursed him back to health. He's 15 years old now. Our dog had mega esophagus and was actually a pure bred German Shepard bred for the police force. She actually underwent some training in subdue before they caught her disability and kicked her out. All of my rats are rescues and Revan was too. I'll post their individual stories room with better pictures. I'll probably never get photos of Jelly though. He's pretty Fucking cute, but he's in my other roommate's room and we are not on good terms, at least enough for me to snap photos of his tortoise. Kinda sucks, Jelly is the friendliest and the cutest. Though, Homer the Greek is my favorite.
Uh... Weird posts....
So, if you are following this blog for the cute animals and suddenly you see some weird posts... Just to clarify, I have another blog SomniferousPsych where I post some pretty weird stuff. I'm a prospective Mort Sci student with a knack for pathology and I love Bukowski. And animals... I try not to let them (the blogs) overlap, but because I'm forgetful sometimes it may happen. Please don't be afraid, I am not a psycho. My pets are all safer with me than anywhere else. I just have really weird interests. As soon as I catch them (like just now I caught one) I will remove them from the page, as I don't want anyone to think they are reading about cute animal adventures and suddenly, find a detailed article with photos of an autopsy or embalming. Trust me, if I wasn't interested in that stuff, I'd be traumatized by seeing something like that unexpectedly too. If there's anything like that up on this blog, it'll only be for a few minutes. :)
Revan came for a snuggle to watch Adventure Time on *her* body pillow. She must have forgotten she was mad at me for yelling at her yesterday. She's been really anxious and clingy lately and I just couldn't take her yowling anymore. She's doing better now though which is great. She's a good kitty.
Morning snuggles with Eich and Beck. We're all sitting here just cuddling and purring at each other.

Revan is addicted to Dexter. She loves Rita.
I'm having a bad flare day. My skin hurts. So Eicha has been snuggling on my chest all day.
This a little memorial for Keifer, Eicha's first little brother. I got Keifer in April. He was Eicha's Easter present. I got him from the same store as Eicha. When I went in, the changed the guinea pig pen so it was open. It was pretty cool. I got to play with the pigs and get to know them a little. There was a little black pig who was older that had conjunctivitis I was considering taking in to give vet treatment. There was no way anyone was going to adopt him with his eye like that. Then, this little grey blur ran right up to my hand. So I picked him up, and he immediately snuggled into my shirt and started purring. My roommate said he looked like he decided he was coming home with me. So, I walked up front, put him on the counter, said I was buying him, and he sat in my jacket pocket the whole way home. Keifer and Eicha were best buds immediately. In fact, Eicha lived him a little too much... They were inseparable and did absolutely everything together, shared everything. Keifer was super smart too. He figured out puzzles and knew they layout of the house. He slept at my feet at night until the week before he died. It was really stupid and tragic. I feel like such an idiot. My best friend at the time's cousin was kicked out of her house. I had known my friend since high school and I trusted her word that this person was safe. So having the bleeding heart that I have, I offered her my couch for a few days. She was okay at first. Then she started playing my roommates against me because I have issues with my roommate's girlfriend and she decided she liked her. It was very elementary. The last day she was here she attacked me about how I was starving her and I was treating her like crap and stuff. She said such awful things that my fiance lost his cool. Jon never loses his cool. Ever. He's always calm, cool and collected. I used to call him Mr. Zen when we first met because of it. So when I say he lost it, you can imagine what she said to set him off. It finally came down to she needed to shut her mouth and learn some respect for the person who took her off the street and fed her despite not having much to offer or she needed to leave. I very nearly called the police, but my other roommate smokes pot and I didn't want her to flip that around and have anything bad come from it. When my roommate got home, I left to go pick up some cigarettes. I quit smoking a year ago, but I do need a smoke when I'm stressed. It's calming and reminds me of home. I was gone for like five minutes and I called her cousin, my best friend about it. She was really surprised too. When I got home, my room was trashed. My personal medical documents were scattered on the floor and the guinea pig cage was left open. Keifer was really wigging out and coughing a whole lot. When I checked him out his throat was sore, but he also had an abscess at the time that I thought had cleared up mostly, so I didn't think anything of it. She was with my roommate, and she had no reason to be in my room. When I left, I honestly thought it was safe. I know she strangled him in hindsight. I woke up to her coming into my room that morning. I pretended to be asleep so she'd just leave. She grabbed my cat by the throat, choked her, and smashed her head with her fist. I didn't do anything because I was afraid and Revan scratched the fucking shit out of her. I had already decided that she was leaving that day because of that. I just didn't want any drama so I left it alone. Then she attacked me and Keifer. That night, I demanded that she leave. The guy who owns the house said she could stay as long as my other roommates wanted her to. So I threatened to call the police if she didn't leave that night. They caved and she ended up leaving. For a week, Keifer was coughing and choking a lot. He was really skittish and traumatized. I didn't think it was anything too bad then because he was acting completely normal otherwise. So I just gave him twice as much love. The night before he died, he was acting really weird. I decided to take him to a vet in the morning. His throat was suddenly incredibly swollen and he choked on everything and coughed a lot like when it first happened. He was really uncomfortable and I just knew something wasn't right. When I woke up the next morning to check on him and snuggle, he was gone and Eicha was cuddled on top of him heartbroken. I didn't post this story to get any hate about how I'm irresponsible or anything. Please, don't bother me with that. I feel bad enough as it is. It was a tragic event that I had no control over. I tried to do a good thing and it backfired. I knew her too, and I never expected anything like this from her. I even checked with a friend I trusted before letting her stay with me as long as I did. I posted this as a warning for pet owners. Don't trust anyone you don't know well with your pets. I knew her, we talked pretty frequently as she also suffered from a disease I suffer from. But I didn't know her well enough I guess. Now I don't trust anyone with my pets who 1. Does not have pets 2. I haven't known them for years and years. I also shared this story to show you how fast a guinea pigs health can decline without warning. Guinea pigs are naturally prey animals. I mean, they are even live stock in some countries. They have adapted to a certain lifestyle where they hide their illnesses for the better of their herd. Sick animals are more suseptable to predator attacks as well as cullment from the herd in some species. Our beloved pets still have these traits. I didn't know Keifer was hurt as bad as he as until the day before he died. Please, monitor your pets behavior very closely and pay close attention to any change in diet or behavior. I spend about 5 minutes every day with Beck and Eicha just checking them for any new sores, any teeth issues, checking their eyes, their feet, and noticing any subtle change. If I did this with Keifer, it may have saved his life, but as he was my second guinea pig ever, I didn't notice and the results were fatal. I still miss Keifer every day. I love my BeckyBoo and wouldn't trade him for the world, but I would give anything to hear Keifer wheek happily again. I did try to press charges against this girl. I told the local authorities that I saw her assault my cat, there was evidence she assaulted Keifer and I was concerned about her own animals as well as her daughter. I contacted her mother about this and made it known to her cousin, a fellow animal lover, that she is an animal abuser. My friend tried to compensate me for the hassle and loss, but no amount of cash can really make up for the loss of a great friend. Nothing will make it better, but it will get easier with time. We had a memorial service for Keifer and buried him in our garden so he can give back to the earth. Eicha was heart broken for a long time. Even after we got him new friends, you could see in his eyes he missed his friend. I take in a lot of rescues and we've lost quite a few friends this year to both old age and illness. Eicha has seen a lot of death for a little guinea pig, and it's never easy. He's a little trooper. Please, learn from this story.
Just a story about how weird my guinea pigs are...
Over the summer, it was incredibly hot and we had no central air. Just a little fan that barely did any suffice. The guinea pigs were dying. They would jump,in their water trough and get their underside wet then just lounge on a cold, hard surface to keep cool. I tried using frozen pees and stuff, but they would chew on the plastic and that just didn't work for me. So, I shaved them. Not bald. They still had fur, I just trimmed it down so they could get a breeze. Beck especially. Back in the summer, his hair was an absolute mess. He was malnurited when I got him and it took a while to fix everything. He was miserable. They actually really liked it. They would sit still and wheek cute little wheeks. Well, after it started cooling down, I stopped trimming them. I could always tell before when it was time to trim them because Beck would get sassier than usual. Then, the razor died and I couldn't trim them even if they needed it. Beck started getting really douchey. So I trimmed up just his crests with a pair of scissors and he was so happy! In conclusion, I have a genuine Abyssinian who does not want to be an Abyssinian. Eicha on the other hand, he puffs his fur up as high as it can stand to look like Beck. I wish I could trade their coats. Beck is so funny, he woops a little song while I trim his fur and nibbles and licks my hand gently. That's not him saying he doesn't like it, fyi. If he didn't like it, he would take off my finger. He's not afraid of biting when he's upset. I've gotten a few good ones from him. We used to call him a vampire. Anyway. I just gave him a little trim and thought I'd share that. :)
This is guinea pig number two, Beckelston, Beck, Becky, even Douchebag occasionally. Beck has a special personality. He's sassy and sarcastic and shows affection by nipping and picking on others. He can be a real dick sometimes and he really tries my patience sometimes, but overall I love him anyway. We pick on each other and have fun. I got him in June when he was about the same age as Eicha. Eicha's brother, Keifer, was killed. Long story short, I let a "friend" stay with us because she was homeless. While I was out at the store, she came into my room, rifelled through my things and strangled Keifer. He passed away a week later from the injuries he sustained. Eicha was beside himself and I still mourn Keifer. He was precious. I gave it a week while I looked around for rescues, then I found Sabbath and Beckleston. A woman put them up on Craigslist because she was moving and couldn't take her daughter's pig with her. To me, that's a really shitty excuse for, "I just don't want to deal with them anymore". She was really nice and even drove them out to me. When I got them, it was pretty clear that these pigs were neglected. Both of them were malnurited. Their teeth broke immediately. It took about a week for them to grow back. Beck had it the worst. You could tell right from the beginning who the favorite was. Sabbath was more social, his fur was in better condition, and his teeth grew back fast. Beck had very nasty fur and he wasn't used to being handled at all. At first he was a biter. I couldn't even think about letting him without getting bit. He was also severely malnurited. He broke his teeth three times in one month before I finally got him healthy again. He still has issues with vitamin deficiencies, but it's really circumstantial. I give him extra supplements to keep it in check. For a while he was an absolute horror. And to top it all off, Sabbath and Beck were kept separate their whole lives. So I had three guinea pigs to introduce to each other. Sabbath and Eicha got along great from the beginning. Sabbath and Beck hated each other. There was one time where for some reason someone put them together in Beck's cage. I swear, Sabbath charged at Beck. Beck ran away screaming and tried to hide, but Sabbath grabbed a hold of him, sunk his teeth in, and dug his jaw around. I had to physically pry his jaws apart. That was a crazy accident and I still have no idea how he got in there. But since then, Beck has been a lot kinder. That's usually how it goes, you save their lives, they love you forever. Beck is a happy little guy now. Sabbath lives upstairs with our roommate and I let our pigs free range our bedroom, as they are litter trained. Beck loves climbing and hiding in weird places. He's very social now. He usually comes when I call him or greets me at the door. Our pigs are trained to do a few tricks, so they both always come running for carrots.
My kitty, Revan. She's about a year and a half old. I rescued her in 2013. Some crackheads scooped her off the street and took her from her mother too soon. I found her and her brother on craigslist and ended up buying her from them for $10. I didn't realize what was going on until I pulled up to their front door. They opened the door just a crack because it was still locked with a chain, asked for the cash, then literally THREW Revan at me. She screamed and clung to my shirt. Poor kitty. We had to teach her how to eat food and use the litter box. For the longest time she couldn't jump on the bed, so she stayed on our bed and we moved the litter box to the foot for her along with her food and water bowl. When she got big enough, we let her free range our room, but she was still so small, we were afraid we'd lose her in the rest of the apartment. She's all grown up now and she's a pretty good cat. She still has a lot of anxiety issues as a result of the abuse she faced with those crackheads. She's also VERY clingy and and needy, but it's nice to be needed.
This is Eicha. My pride and joy. He was my very first guinea pig. We’ll be celebrating his birthday here on January 3rd. The story of how I actually ended up with Eicha is pretty funny. I didn’t actually want him, like AT ALL. My fiance bought him for me for my birthday last year. I wanted a guinea pig SO bad and I begged him for months and months. I did a ton of research on piggie diet and behavior and just general guinea pig stuff. So when my birthday came around and he asked what I wanted, I told him I only wanted a guinea pig. So we went to the pet store. The pet store is a local mom and pop place that’s been open for like 12 years. All their guinea pigs come from local breeders, so I trusted them. We went in and they had a TON of pigs, just like, none for sale. There was a lot of confusion as to who was for sale and who was lodging while their owners were out of town. I told the employee who was helping me that I just wanted a female. Well, she grabbed Eicha thinking he was female, which I noticed right away he wasn’t. As soon as she grabbed him he started screaming bloody murder. I was actually a little worried about it, so I took him from her because I have a way with animals. As soon as I took him, he immediately stopped screaming and started making these cute little wheeks. I held him for a little bit while we talked about cages and other stuff. Turns out, he was the last pig they had for sale. So I asked her when the next “shipment” of pigs will be coming in, because I still wanted a female. Then I handed him back to her, and he started screaming again like she was trying to kill him. So, I told her I’d hold him a little while longer while we talked about dietary needs and what they had that she recommended. My fiance was getting bored and stir crazy. He hates pet stores, loves animals, but HATES pet stores. I guess there is too much noise and chaos with birds squawking and the wheels of rodent cages squeeking. So, this time I handed Eicha back to the lady with the intentions of just leaving, but he started screaming again. I looked at her, then at the screaming guinea pig, then at my fiance and asked him what he though of this pig. He shrugged. I took Eicha back and sighed and said, “I guess he isn’t letting me leave without him.” The rest is history. Actually, I very vaguely remember scouting out their guinea pigs the week before we bought him, around Christmas. We just found them and we were interested in their stock. This was the first time I had actually see a guinea pig in person too. I was checking out the lizards and they have the pig enclosures set up right next to the lizards, very close too. I was checking out this little iguana when suddenly I heard a rattle in my ear. I jumped like a foot in the air and turned around to see this guinea pig chewing on the bars of his cage. We exchanged this scared look for about two seconds, then both ran away and hid. It was Eicha. I went back after I bought him to get him a little brother. We got Keifer in April. When I went in, they remembered that I had purchased Eicha from them and told me that he had actually been purchased before and he was brought back a week later. Kinda puts into perspective why he was screaming. I can’t imagine what he went through having a home and then suddenly being taken back to the pet store. He’s very happy with us now. I don’t cage him at all, so he has full reign of our bedroom to wheek around on the floor or come cuddle with us. We have two litter boxes setup, one at the foot of the bed and the main one on the floor. Both our guinea pigs are completely litter trained. They love this arrangement. Eicha still spends majority of his time with me cuddling.
