Am I coming back to Tumblr at 26?

No, probably not. I decided to log back in, for the first time in nearly 4 years and I think it’s pretty cool how much has changed. I used to reblog/post a lot of sad, lonely shit. I was so unsure of how my life was going to turn out. Since then, I graduated college twice with a bachelor’s and a master’s. I got a job teaching at a university. I bought a home with my soon to be husband. All this to say, if you’re in a place like I was back when I was still regularly using Tumblr, things change. My whole mindset has changed and I truly couldn’t be happier.

Me. It's me. I'm 22, about to graduate college with a math degree(maybe...we could be clicking to graduate at this point). Life is very different from when I last logged in. I hope you are well if you are still here too.

pisses me off that angsty punk bands with a lot of teenage boy fans like nirvana are held in great critical esteem and are regarded as some of the greatest artists to ever live but as soon as bands like mcr and fob have a lot of (god forbid) teenage girl fans they get written off as “whiny emo” and “embarrassing 15-year-old girl music” anyway i hate the 50 year old fuckboys who run our society

#as you know it is my firm belief that my chemical romance is the most important band of the last decade #and as much as i want this to be recognized#i am terrified that it will only come when the old white male rock journos of the future realize what mcr fans knew in fucking 2006 #mcr fans who were by and large teenage girls! and you know if men write the history of mcr they will either ignore these (us) teen girl fans #or create a false dichotomy of ‘real’ (male) fans who ‘understand’ the band and female fans who were only in it for superficial reasons #what happened to all those screaming teen girls associated with elvis presley the beatles the rolling stones etc during their heyday?? #i don’t know!! they didn’t get a say in the writing of the history of their favorite band in the end!! #they’re a spectacle a sign of those bands’ fame and influence but leave the discussions about the art to the men thanks #and i will do ANYTHING to prevent this happening to my chemical romance #not only would the band themselves (esp. gerard) NOT want their female fans to be discounted it would be absurdly inaccurate to do so #the band obviously owes much of its success to teen girls just due to the fact that they were such a huge percentage of their fanbase #but more importantly you cannot talk about the history of my chemical romance w/o talking about the intense hatred of my chemical romance #which was so important in the formation of the identity of that band and which was motivated by this exact disdain for the things girls like #other ppl have said it before but mcr was despised because they refused to turn their backs on the ‘embarrassing’ parts of their fanbase#it’s not that mcr wasn’t for boys it’s just that teen girls had something that WASN’T NOT for them for once #and i’ll die before i let old men take my chemical romance away from me (x)

Not that I’m big on mcr (although 15 year old jess 100% was) I will defend this post until my death. How many times in history have women been disregarded as fans of any type of alt rock music? Pop punk is a perfect example. Those bands, musically, are fucking terrible and everyone knows it but you know what get enough dudes in one room and suddenly it’s some type of quality art. 

Today a stuffy older man was in the car next to me and I was idly singing along to lucy in the sky with diamonds and he was shocked about it, as if a (young) woman listening to a (very popular) beatles song in her own time is some kind of news. Who made the beatles famous again? Teen aged girls. everyone has that soap box thing they defend all the time whether that’s like, the misrepresentation of sharks in the media, or like, fair funding in public schools… mine is how teen aged girls are viewed in the alt. music scene.
