Well I thought I had planned for everything but there was something major i didn't even consider
The house wasn't ready to be moved in.
Now I'm not a picky person, our last house was 385/w and was falling apart. I made my own improvements, some with approval, some I just did, but for 500/w this was not ready.
We got in before 3 and immediately noticed the rubbish and that the house was not clean.
This wasn't even all of it. It was inside the house and in the very small garden. There was also a fold up mattress and doona still in one of the closets that apparently no one saw? The half drunk water bottles were were a big concern.

This was a cavity in the wall (old ducted heating? Maybe setup for a gas heater at one point?) This had a plastic vent over it, but what a health concern!
This place also hasn't had a recent pest control done, we can tell because of the spiders. Now, i love spiders, but when you sign a lease on a new house for 500/w, you expect certain things to be taken care of. I definitely dont want cockroaches in my house. If there are spiders in a newly reased property, what are the chances or worse bugs?
The oven seal fell right off. Isn't a big fix but! Very concerning.
The floor here was so warped and damaged it was so concerning. Found out this morning poking around, that the vinal isn't glued down, and theres actually a safe under there? Neither of the agents new. Thats just a fun surprise for everyone.
There are two gates down the side of the house, one of them was a temp fencing kind of gate on simple hinges. Agent offered to remove it, butbI liked the extra security. It was busted, folded over like someone shoved their way through. The back garage door also looked like it had been kicked in, and the front garage door wasn't locked.
Squatters? There were also several fresh looking cig butts. I am concerned. I need to get contents insurance and security cameras, at least for the back yard.
the temp gate has been fixed to the side of the house for security at least, so the only way to the back is through the garage or the house
we attempted to turn the gas on today, and after about an hour we noticed the smell of gas had not gone away, and suspected a leak. (We were right, too. Vindication!)
So between the maintenance guy coming once last night, again tonight, the plumber for the gas and the three cleaners makes 6 people in the house making this ready enough to move in. We couldn't even start unpacking into the garage, because while the inside of the house was still caked in dust and grime, especially all the higher surfaces and vents, the outside and garage was worse. It clearly hadn't been swept for a while, and the cobwebs could have been years old, they were everywhere and black.
We finally got the agents on site about 1.30 this afternoon, but while we were waiting we piled a massive list of unacceptable issues with a 500/w house, and we're still finding rubbish and issued.
Favourite one so far was the bathro door. It has two entries, and one scraped annoyingly on the door, the other SCREECHED along the tiles. you could not have closed it quietly if you tried. And the problems with the bathroom keep going. The towel rack was an old plastic one and the bottom nrung was fully broken off, and shower door had 3 hinges and was only attached at one and the power point above the sink was neither watertight nor properly attached to the fucking wall. It twisted on one screw at best. Several powerpoints were loose in one way or another, it's all concerning from a safety point of view, too.
Anyway, after staying in a motel last night because this was unacceptable, we are spending our first night in the new house, on a mattress on the floor in the clean living room. We're picking up more cleaning supples tomorrow to get it to our standards in the last few places.
we pick up the boys tomorrow afternoon, return the truck tomorrow morning, and life should be cozy
