Luka Couffaine has the ultimate Poker Face
As extremely distracting Marinette’s fixation on Adrien is, it’s super easy to miss the smaller details.
Like how Luka himself doesn’t volunteer to be Jagged’s guitarist.
And the look Luka gives Marinette when she declares that “Luka can lend Adrien his guitar!”
The boy was not at ALL thrilled at the idea of working with Jagged Stone, his actual FAVOURITE singer, after watching his mother get into a heated argument with the man over their shared past that was unknown to him prior to literally just a few seconds ago.
Sure, we as the audience and all of Marinette’s friends (sans Adrien) know that Marinette was placing favouritism on Adrien, but to Luka, it probably seemed to him that Marinette was deliberately dodging the idea of volunteering him without his clear consent, and thought that was pretty cool of her.
And not only that, remember when Kagami put Marinette on the spot and asked if she was watching “her boyfriend play guitar?”
No reaction from Luka. Just a plain, neutral expression. And this episode came not too long after Silencer, where he had explictly confessed his feelings to Marinette.
When Luka made his declaration to her, he simply walked away to go perform with his friends. He didn’t expect an answer from Marinette right away, as he’s already aware of her crush on Adrien.
Luka is simply waiting for Marinette to work her feelings out for herself, and remains calm, cool and collected.
We also have seen how he interacts with his little sister, who has severe anxiety and is known to have panic attacks, so he must have experience with complicated emotions by being there for Juleka.
Luka knows how to control his body language and facial expressions to avoid reacting to what is happening in front of him, so that Juleka and Marinette don’t jump to conclusions about what he is really thinking and feel worse for it.
I think that’s very interesting characterization for him.
