Lifeguard Tifa FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.
the chosen one
i had the pleasure of working on the cover for @gloriosazine! i really wanted to showcase sephiroth's character progression in one shot so to speak; i wasn't sure i could pull it off (first time working with so many characters in one artwork) but i'm really happy with the way it turned out!
i also wanted to accentuate the otherworldly/ethereal look of safer/monster sephiroth, so i took some liberties with his design and gave his hair a glowing stained-glass look!
here's the full cover, and some detailed close-ups!
Miniroth witnessing theatrics of adult Sephiroth, he looks so fed up and confused 🤣
Among the cast of FF7, Tifa is often recognized for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering support of those around her. However, beneath those qualities lies a pattern of self-sacrifice rooted in profound childhood trauma.
Tifa lost her mother when she was very young, and the sudden death of a parent can have a devastating effect on a child's emotional development.
Early parental loss often disrupts a child's sense of safety and security, leaving them painfully aware of how fragile relationships can be. While this experience doesn't lead to every bereaved child developing a people-pleasing personality, it can certainly lay the groundwork for one.
Research shows that children who experience the death of a parent before the age of 12 are more likely to develop depression than those who experience such a loss during adolescence. They may also become more vulnerable to future negative life events.
One common coping mechanism is people-pleasing. Fearing further loss or abandonment, children may suppress their own needs in an effort to maintain stability in an unpredictable world and avoid conflict. Over time, they can begin to equate their worth with the support and comfort they provide to others, resulting in self-silencing, difficulty setting healthy boundaries, and a lifelong tendency to prioritize everyone else's needs over their own.
This context helps explain much of Tifa's behavior.
Tifa loses her mother at the tender age of eight, and seven years later experiences another traumatic event in the form of the Nibelheim Incident. In a single night, she loses her father, her hometown, and nearly everyone she has ever known. These repeated losses reinforce the belief that the people she loves can disappear at any moment.
As a result, she copes by making herself indispensable to the people around her, often at the expense of her own emotional well-being. She consistently prioritizes harmony over her own emotions and readily gives her time, energy, and compassion to others while rarely doing the same thing for herself.
This is what makes her character arc so compelling. Her growth isn't about becoming less compassionate, but about learning that her own feelings and desires matter too, and finding the courage to act on them instead of always putting everyone else first.
This transformation becomes especially clear when she decides to take care of Cloud while he's suffering from mako poisoning in Mideel.
From the outside, her decision appears consistent with what she has always done: taking care of someone else. However, her motivation is fundamentally different.
When the rest of the party leaves to pursue the Huge Materia, no one orders Tifa to remain behind. She isn't assigned the responsibility; she chooses it. More importantly, she chooses what matters most to her: staying with Cloud.
That decision is significant because, from a practical standpoint, the Huge Materia mission is arguably the more urgent objective. Yet Tifa decides that tending to Cloud is where she needs to be. For perhaps the first time in the game, she allows her own priorities to take precedence.
Narratively, she is rewarded for making that choice. Because she remains in Mideel, she is there when the Ultimate Weapon attacks the town and sends both her and Cloud into the lifestream. Had she left with the others, Cloud likely would never have recovered his true identity.
This growth continues into Advent Children. Tifa still loves Cloud deeply and remains a compassionate, supportive partner, but she is no longer content to quietly accommodate his self-destructive behavior. Instead, she confronts him when he withdraws and isolates himself. Her compassion is no longer rooted in self-denial but in honesty, demonstrating that genuine love sometimes means challenging someone rather than simply carrying their burdens for them.
Viewed through this lens, Tifa's journey is one of emotional healing as much as heroism. Her compassion never disappears, but gradually becomes healthier and more intentional. Rather than defining her worth by how much she can carry for others, she learns to act according to her own convictions while still caring deeply for the people she loves. That evolution transforms her from someone who routinely suppresses her own feelings through self-sacrifice into someone who can act on her emotions and desires while still retaining the compassion that defines her.
i just kinda automatically think of all my mutuals as my age but then one person will mention getting married and having a baby and another will mention going into their junior year of high school and i’m like wait what
Mutual 1: my husband bought me roses today!!
Me: your what
Mutual 2: *gets an ask that congratulates them with their 14th birthday*
Me: you’re what

I have surprisingly been getting messages from people asking whether I'd do a post about my design notes for the deadly seven sins. Alright then, here goes;
Design Notes; The Seven Deadly Sins
Greed points at everything they want and grasps anything they can. Their true form is unseen. Their own hand partially blinds them. Different eyes puncture their crown, stolen from others. They float, detached from all. Their stick is sharpened at both ends
It is the first and oldest design, dating back to 2023
The stick sharpened at both ends is a reference to Lord of the Flies (in the book, one end of the stick goes into the earth while the other holds a severed head) I wanted it to symbolize violence
Sloth exists in a wrapped cloth that provides comfort but muffles all sensations. Sloth doesnt see, speak nor hear. The cloth overwhelms them. They are bound by a rope whose edge reaches inside their confinement, giving them the ability to free themselves if so desired.
I made an extra effort to put the rope within Sloth's control, to avoid associating inertion from mental illness to laziness
I wrapped my Blajah plushie with a bed sheet and used my robe's belt as rope to get a picture reference for the upper body. Despite eerie origins, my designs come into paper with a lot of silly methods.
Pride exists inside a golden, hollow statue. Their gaze is set upon a cracked book of pages set in stone. Their laurel crown is sharpened to the point of horns. Pride can be set free if they break the outer shell that binds them with the gavel they use to condemn others.
The pose and clothing is a reference to the painting The School of Athens, by Raphael.
Being mettalic, the book only reflects back themselves. Even if you interpret it as stone, it would still work since the pages remain static
I like to imagine the rotten legs dragging their heavy statue shell around. Ever since I was little I have a strange fear of statues moving
Gluttony is a stomach, living and consuming themselves within their confinment. They’re not represented by an underweight or overweight person; it had to be something everyone has. Their scale is purposefully unspecified; because everyones is different.
The design resembles the Horseman of Famine because gluttony and famine are connected; the excessive hoarding by some people causes famine to others. They're like two different plates on a scale
While the basic representation is just fat, I never considered drawing an underweight person to counter it and appear subversive. When talking to a friend recovering from an eating disorder they mentioned how cheap and uncomfortable it is when people use extreme thinness just for the sake of horror and I have to agree. I always avoid drawing real bodies for horror
Lust is the only one who tries to disguise itself with a human appearance, tho it has too many hands. One hand to beckon, one to threaten, and one to silence you. It kneels because not all of its victims are adults. It lives undercover and invites you in as well
Many asked about the fourth hand: it's the one you only notice afterwards and are left wondering what it means, whether it's an innocent gesture or not. How it made you feel.
It has 2 other variation designs. While what I made before is beautiful, it is not unsettling enough. It has the artstlye of an angel rather than something human and dangerous
I settled on the design after a passage in the book Second-Hand Time, by Svetlana Alexievitch. It was a passage about a teen abused by a military squad, killed when she got pregnant, and mocked over how underveloped her body was. Because of that my original idea was to have Lust wearing military boots, but that would restrict the concept too much. I thought that drawing would make that passage less haunting to me, but to no avail.
Envy is a slowly burning and constricted heart. It covers its identity with a mirror; the more it seeks to resemble the reflection of others the less it will resemble itself. But even the reflection is broken, inaccurate, and unsatisfactory.
Many have said the concept looks like a chrysalis or a flower bud, unable to flourish. I like when people interpret my drawings, they often find beautiful meanings that escaped me
I pondered whether to paint the mirror in front of them black, to symbolize phone screens, but decided against it because it would blend into the background
Least popular design but one where people have told me ''I cant stop thinking about it'' the most, which made me cherish it a lot
Wrath is not a beast acting ravenous, but a human thing slowly crawling towards you. All of their actions are justified by the halo they claim to be righteous. The closer they get, the more they shed their humane appearance
It was a challenge to make wrath differ from someone being rightfully angry. It applies to all designs; how to portray dangerous excess to very common and not entirely wrong emotions.
Wrath has no legs. Nothing to stand on
''Little by little, it turned into that wild fury in which the eyes camouflage with a black veil, the fists contract with a tremedous force and your very teeth find the enemy'' Roughly translated quote by Nikolai Gumilev that I kept in mind while designing it. Amazing writer
That is all I can remember at the moment. Hopefully it saciates everyone's curiosity and not ruin the magic and mystery. Thank you very much for your interest. I will see you soon, when it's time for the Seven Heavenly Virtues

It really irks me when people are like 'lol Cloud went snowboarding immediately after Aerith died!!' NO!! NO HE DIDN'T!!!!
After she dies, a still grieving Cloud goes to the Icicle Inn where he finds the house Aerith was born in, complete with video tapes of her biological mom and a dad she never knew she had falling in love with eachother before deciding to have her. You hear them choose her name. The final tape shows Hojo gunning down her father and kidnapping Aerith and her mom, thus beginning a lifetime of Shin-ra torture, while the player is left with the heartbreaking realization that if Aerith had lived just a little bit longer, she could have known everything about herself she ever wanted to including how loved and wanted she was from the very start. And now she never will, rubbing an incredible amount of salt in a very fresh wound. and THEN Cloud went snowboarding, which is way funnier.
I'm sorry can we PLEASE talk about Tifa Lockheart. Tifa Lockheart, who hung up rodeo posters in her bedroom and dressed like a cowgirl and took piano lessons and thought she could take on the world. Tifa Lockheart, who had everything taken from her and no one to share in that grief with. Tifa Lockheart, who had to learn to live for herself. Tifa Lockheart, who, despite all she's lost, despite the fact that she has more of a personal grudge against the main villain than even the protagonist, just wants to be kind. Tifa Lockheart, who can punch with the force of a ballistic missile. Tifa Lockheart, who is scared of ghosts but reached into a maelstrom of them to try and save a girl she met just yesterday. Tifa Lockheart, who's so sick of people falling out of her grasp that she backtracked through multiple floors of a skyscraper on the off chance that she needed to be there to catch someone. Tifa Lockheart, who's jaded and tired and full of remorse and raids abandoned beach bars and mixes herself little frou-frou cocktails and doesn't know what she's doing with her life. Tifa Lockheart, who got betrayed and stabbed and pushed into danger and saw the afterlife with her own eyes and the first thing she did upon waking up was look into the eyes of the friend who did all that to her and said "I'm going to save you." Tifa Lockheart, the woman that you are.
