It’s with both happiness and sadness that we are returning home. We are both missing family, friends, our own bed, English food, beer and culture as well as our other bikes, but we know we will now be missing the excitement of somewhere new tomorrow, the expectation of a new place and new people, the time on the bikes travelling the roads. We know we will do this again sometime in the future, who knows when maybe when we retire, but it’s in the blood now.
We have both had the most amazing experience, and have learned so much. We have also made some new friends on the road, which we hope to keep in contact with as well as see again one day.
I have to personally say that Carol has been the perfect travelling partner, and has put up with me through it all, we have both supported each other very well, and our relationship is so much stronger for the trip.
So the over night ferry from Rotterdam to Hull was quite smooth, we slept well but both woke at 3, Carol managed to get back to sleep, I’m writing this after trying to sleep for the last hour, with no joy. We are getting close and we gave been promised landing at 7 with good weather.
Leaving the ferry seemed to take forever, but in fact only took an hour, then the short ride home and both Poppy and Dasiy made it, they are tucked up in the warm garage with our other bikes. And that is it folks the journey ends, we hope there will be another chapter.
Day 150 – Blighty, home sweet home It's with both happiness and sadness that we are returning home. We are both missing family, friends, our own bed, English food, beer and culture as well as our other bikes, but we know we will now be missing the excitement of somewhere new tomorrow, the expectation of a new place and new people, the time on the bikes travelling the roads.
