These are the remains of building where apparently the PNG flag was designed by 15-year-old schoolgirl Susan Huhume, who won a nationwide competition for a new flag design in 1971. When the OLSH School there was operating.

shots taken at waima beach, Kairiku LLG, Central Province. The boys here build small model sailing crafts in the fashion of lakatoi boats and race them along the beach. They place bets with small amounts of money and race their boats along the beach. They are powered very effectively by the wind in the small sale and steering is via a small rudder which they set course before the race. Rules are no interference unless the boat sinks, at which point the owner sets it right and leaves it again to the wind. Whoever has the most efficient design, usually ends up winning.
