Convenient form of travel, but at what cost? ” Lily smiled, loving the normalcy of the conversation. It was easier to be normal with the base, it felt like. “ Oh, Merlin, I don’t know how you handle it. I don’t even particularly like reading the paper because journalists seem so invasive of privacy. I would lose my mind being on the actual receiving end of it. ”
--- “ it’s the worst. i hate it. i’ve been avoiding it at all costs, ” gwen grinned. she chuckled, shaking her head, “ white lies laced with truth. for the most part so far, i’ve been able to avoid too many individual interviews thankfully. ”

Not knowing about Star Wars is a bloody tragedy. Her hair bagels - you know, the enormous buns on the side of her head that look like American bagels? Her hair bagels. Fashion statement of the century, really. ”
--- “ okay, who else do i need to know about, oh wise one, ” gwen asked, beginning to bow but bursting into a fit of giggles instead. “ i still haven’t seen it. we have to get the moving muggle box first. i- okay, enormous bagels on the side of her head. that... sounds really strange looking. ”

--- “ yes, exactly ! ” gwen shook her head, “ hah, i do secretly care about my appearance. maybe not as much as others. i promise not to take offense at anything. you’ve been perfectly lovely. ”

▵ — Lily tried to imagine the scene in her head - Narcissa Malfoy storming through the Ministry, shouting at all the people who were on her side over something that had no direct effect on her or her child whatsoever. The only reason she could have been upset, to Lily’s mind, was about the future - but what could she dread there? Her son would be getting the highest respect from school officials, with not even a hint of tainted blood flowing through his veins.
This confused everything, and her mind felt muddled. She looked at Gwen, almost curiously, at her indifference to Narcissa’s abnormal reaction. Lily sometimes forgot that not all of them had been living in a magical car, moving around constantly, for three full years. Not everyone had three years to develop a certain paranoia to the behaviors of everyone around them.
She cleared her throat, laughing a little awkwardly, suddenly aware of the fact that she probably looked a bit mad. “ S’pose you’re right. No need to get caught up in trying to figure out Narcissa Malfoy. I’m sure she’s got their reasons, and they’re probably good ones, ” she said, more carefully this time. “ It’s just as well. My husband - Beau, he’s around here somewhere - we took Michael out for a fun day, ” she said, changing the subject quickly. She smiled down at little Harry, who beamed up at her, one hand closed stubbornly on Gus’ very tolerant tail.
“ In Diagon Alley! ” Harry sing-songed.
--- gwenog shook her head, chuckling, “ it was hilarious. ” gwenog had tried to come up with reasons as to why narcissa had stormed the ministry. so far she’d come up with she’d been under the imperius curse, was being blackmailed, or she, for some reason, didn’t want change in hogwarts. but every death eater wanted hogwarts to cater exclusively to purebloods and halfbloods who supported the new order.
gwenog had eventually concluded that narcissa had gone insane, if only to stop thinking about the event. she nodded, “ i’m sure her reasons will uncover themselves eventually, ” she added. “ a fun day, huh ? ” gwen grinned down at harry. “ and what fun things did you do in diagon alley, darling ? ”

“He probably isn’t too happy about the hit-wizard son. So I guess I can’t blame him too much.”
--- “ yeah, my parents weren’t too thrilled that i decided to play quidditch professionally. not the same, but i mean, similar ideas. sort of. ”
