Raph’s vibrant hues flicker over the girl that spoke as if they’d been friends since the dawn of time, actually the boy wouldn’t have considered his friends to speak as much either. “Why don’t you get a dog?” Truth be told he’d understand the sentiment, not that he did much sleeping these days anyway. But he’d miss the quiet settling of his home city- King’s Grove didn’t quite do it for him.

    she knew the other was making an effort to make gwen feel better but she couldn't help that her lips sink into a frown. ❝ my mom is super allergic to like...everything. so no dog for me tragically. well, not until i save enough to move out but i don’t think the salary i’m getting from the paper will cover anything. ❞ she sighs a bit dramatically before shaking the frown away and placing her normal smile back where it belongs, ❝ maybe i’ll win the lottery or something !! ❞ use the money to leave the town for good closing the chapter on her hometown. the girl can dream.

he’d been surprised when gwen wanted to hang out, but he didn’t mind. they hadn’t been close in high school, but she was a nice girl and he did like what time he’d spent with her. he just didn’t think she’d want to hang out with him. but here they are, sipping on half decent coffee and reminiscing. “moving’s always strange. you miss things you never thought you’d miss or that you didn’t even notice.” there are things aksel misses about norway, but he’d never talk about them. “i’m sure boston wasn’t all bad, though.”

   loneliness saught her out more often now that she was home. in boston, she was able to disguise the feeling in school, false friends, and a boyfriend that unknowingly preferred sleeping in gwen's roommate's bed. so being back in king's grove and reaching out to a sorta friend isn't the worst thing for gwen. aksel was always cool, and they got along well in high school. he can carry a conversation with her while some couldn't handle the rambling.  ❝ you also start noticing the strange things that happen in your hometown. growing up here, this is all i saw. ❞ her hands gesture in the air as if something would appear and indicate her point. she then nods her head in confirmation, oh did she miss boston. ❝ would go back if i could. can't dwell on that, though. i can be an adult here in king's grove. i'm sure it's not that hard. ❞

             lucky     her     that     current     moment     there     was     no     battle     within,     allowed     him     to     smile     right     back     without     reservations.     even     shoulders     lose     present     tenseness     as     she     spoke,     gabe     nodding.     ❝     not     all     as     it     is     made     to     seem     in     the     media     but     it     is     quite     a     magnificent     place.     i     hope     to     be     able     to     return.     ❞     hand     runs     through     hair     as     he     leans     back     in     seat,     evident     amusement     coloring     features.     ❝     that     is     quite     smart,     after     all,     you     just     never     know,     right?     ❞  

                 she enjoyed making other people smile, preferring the lightness that crossed their features over doom and gloom. it seemed to her that everyone in this town was either serious, grumpy, or seriously grumpy.  ❝ if you ever go i might have to tag along. i always wanted to travel to places with stories and los angeles seems like one of those places. ❞ gwen shakes her head lightly putting a stop to her rambling words, ❝ well i have my suspicions. i mean everyone in this town does right ?? ❞ she can not be the only one that feels the chill down her spine the moment the sun hides away, the air never quite chilly just unsettling,  ❝ one day i’ll check it out. just need to grow some nerves. ❞

he hadn’t really been paying too much attention to the girl, but coyotes was enough to capture his full focus.  jude cocked his head, leaning in a little as she continued her ramblings.  “i’m sorry, did you say coyotes?  where the hell have you been that you’ve been hearing coyotes howling?  little house on the damn prairie?”

              ❝ uh...yeah, coyotes. smaller than a wolf, more ugly.  ❞ her fingers made a symbol of fangs, a small growl escaping her lips attempting the best impression of the beast.  ❝ this isn’t the 1870′s. coyotes live in the forest. many are around and have been around for years. can you really not hear them at night ?? ❞ she wasn’t making this up. boston never had so many howls echoing through the night. once she returned home gwen certainly recognized this. ❝ unless you have reason to think it’s wolves ?? ❞

Sam was someone who easily talked to strangers. So she nods along to the girl speaking. She could see the comfort in nature sounds while falling asleep, though she’d never really experienced that. Her family wasn’t one to do outdoorsy things. Like ever.

“I don’t know though. There’s definitely some charm falling asleep to the noises of the city. But I can’t say I know much about nature, so does my opinion really count?” 

❝  hell yeah, your opinion counts. your opinion always counts !! unless it doesn’t validate the rule of don’t be a dick. sometimes i miss the sound of drunk people’s conversations, i lived above a bar. they were great things fall asleep to. this couple always fought every wednesday night, it was like they were on their own personal soap opera. ❞ gwen nods her head slightly,  ❝ king’s grove seems like the perfect nature place. our oceans are the deepest and our forests are the largest. ❞

             distant     smile     as     he     looks     over,     firm     nod     in     agreement.     knew     a     bit     of     what     that     was     like.     ❝     i     come     from     los     angeles,     so     i     mostly     get     that.     the     coyotes     are     a     pleasant     change     from     all     nightlife     and     traffic.     and     not     just     that     but     if     you     get     to     look     out     into     nature?     –     now     that     is     the     whole     win.     ❞

             her smile grows, his words catching gwen’s attention which wasn’t exactly a challenging thing to do. her fascination with other people and their own stories the leading reasons she was a journalist.  ❝ ah, LA, never been to that side of the coast but the real housewives sure make it look wild. ❞ her shoulders pick up in a shrug, ❝ yeah, nature here is pretty cool. except i tend to avoid too much time in the forest. it’s always just given me the heebie jeebies for some reason. ❞

 ﾟ * ｡ ･ ( zoey deutch / female / she/her  ) - wait is that guinevere ‘gwen’ ramsey walking down the street? I’ve heard the 22-year-old is a journalist for the king’s grove newspaper that happens to be a human. Apparently they’re really kind-hearted and curious but surprisingly gullible and cowardly. I always think of half-finished mugs of coffee and tangled knots of headphones when i heard their name. ( Carrie, 22, she/her, ct )

Gwen has thought her life as pretty boringly average. Having grown up in the same small town King’s Grove all her life, she whizzed through high school, keeping her grades above average and participating in the activities of the harbor view high school’s newspaper and yearbook until she graduated and was able to attend boston college with a degree in english and a minor in journalism. due to the expenses of living in a big city, a cheating boyfriend who now is an ex, and being unable to get a job in boston, she made the decision to move back home to king’s grove after finishing college, working for the king’s grove newspaper, saving up money just to move out of her parents home. It wasn’t until she moved away did she realize the usual yet unusual things that happened in king’s grove were not happening in boston and while she is curious about it, the fear of the unknown still shakes her to the core.
