Walking with Monet - Claude Monet’s garden in Giverny, France (by Milamai)
Anna Malina: Experimental Gif Maker
From Germany, the work of this prolific self taught gif artist has a direct lineage to experimental filmmakers like Maya Deren and Kenneth Anger. These references would be familiar to her since she is a self described film addict and intellectual who admires Muybridge’s motion studies and has written about Barthes views on film. The imagery in her work has a timeless quality to it. Sometimes it seems to be autobiographical and of the moment but at other times it has a historical feel, all with her distinct style.

Studio Ponoc’s Mary and the Witch’s Flower (2017)
Mary and the Witch’s Flower Q&A:-
What is Mary and the Witch’s Flower? A new anime feature film made by Studio Ponoc.
Who are Studio Ponoc? Studio Ponoc are a Japanese animation studio located in Tokyo & founded by former Ghibli film director Hiromasa Yonebayashi (Secret World of Arrietty and When Marnie Was There), Ghibli producer Yoshiaki Nishimura and other former Ghibli staff and animators after Studio Ghibli stopped feature film production in 2014 and laid off the majority of permanent film making staff.
When is Mary and the Witch’s Flower released? It was in Japanese cinemas this summer past, but will receive a nation wide North American cinema release 18th January 2018, the film will hit Australian cinemas early 2018 and has been slated for a UK release in “Spring 2018″. It has also had a limited run in Hollywood (this is usually done to qualify for award nomination: Oscar’s, Annie Awards etc) and a few film festival screenings around the globe.
Where is the story from? The film is based on the novel “The Little Broomstick” by British children’s author Mary Stewart. Director Yonebayashi’s previous two films were also based on British children’s authors novels “The Borrowers” by Mary Norton (Arrietty) and When Marnie Was There by Joan G. Robinson.
Who’s in the English voice cast? The title character Mary is voiced by Ruby Barnhill and other cast members include Kate Winslet, Jim Broadbent, Louis Ashbourne Serkis, Ewen Bremner, Lynda Baron, Rasmus Hardiker, Teresa Gallagher and Morwenna Banks.

Does this film symbolise THE END of Studio Ghibli? No, Studio Ghibli are currently making two new feature films; one directed by Hayao Miyazaki and the other by his son Goro Miyazaki, Hayao is also finishing off a short film for the Ghibli museum (Boro the Caterpillar, due 2018).
(Well thats it for the brief Q&A but if you have any more questions send me a message anytime!)
Pholisma sonorae is a parasitic plant in the same family as the forget-me-not (Boraginaceae) which grows in the Sonoran desert. It only emerges from the ground to flower. Like some other subterranean parasitic plants, it only emerges above ground to flower. The fact that the flowering shoots resemble mushrooms seems like a pretty good example of convergent evolution!

Since I’m working as a professional illustrator I have a lot of difficulty to find some free time to draw only for myself, and It’s a bit sad…
So recently I challenge myself to draw one illustration per week. I really don’t know how many time I will have the courage and the time to do it, but it feels great to draw again freely ! And if you are interested, the 3 illustrations are for sale on my shop :)
