Lottie didn’t know what day it was anymore. Unable, unwilling, to think about what had happened during the last town wide gathering, she had spent her days getting blackout drunk during the day and sleeping with anyone who was even mildly interested at night before rolling out of their bed the next morning to continue the cycle.
Hungover and making her way to the closest bar to once again drown her sorrows, she sat on a bench to try and give her legs a chance to stop shaking. She had started spacing out, hands shaking lightly before someone approached her. “I’m sorry?” she asked, having not caught what the woman had said. “What did you say? I wasn’t paying attention.”
Gwen could tell the other was having a rough day, but her smile didn’t falter. “Oh i hope I wasn’t interrupting. I was just asking if you’d like a cupcake, I made them this morning.” She held out he basket, and made a gesture to the cupcakes. “I figured the town might need a sweet distraction, even if just in the form of baked goods.”
Her own coping with the stuff going on came in the form of baking and working on her witchcraft. It was hard without her mother to guide her, but she had to get used to that sometime soon, and she had been making great progress since she came to Hawthorne.
