when the root of the tragedy was love.
also generally see adam and how his influence switched all the characters personalities. when thinking about the character’s traumas and how it shapes their actions: tosh’s isolation comes from her history of secrecy (with her old job) and then her difficulty in connecting with the rest of the team. owen’s isolation comes from his trauma with his fiance and as a result his fear of genuine emotional connection afterwards. ianto’s isolation comes from having to be quiet about his experiences with tw1 and his gf, as well as his limited influences and interaction with the team in the beginning. jack’s isolation comes from his secrecy with his past and his immortality. and gwen’s isolation comes from her inability to connect with rhys outside her job but also being unable to connect with the people inside her job because of her care for rhys (and also the victims they meet.) in adam all these role are reversed: tosh becomes more outgoing, owen becomes more caring and emotional, ianto becomes a “murderer” which is a departure from his typical reserved and kind personality, jack opens up more about his past, and gwen loses her care for rhys. what im saying is that in trying to connect himself to the rest of the team adam removes the personality traits from them that isolates them from each other so that he can fit himself into the group. what im saying is that their trauma and these traits that can make them feel alone are also core parts of their character that require work and development and you cannot simply remove them without fundamentally altering their character, their personality, and their actions. what im saying is adam is a good episode not only for the plot but also for its insights on how trauma creates a person and how taking away that trauma removes core character traits and makes them lose who they truly are.
nap time immediately post alien scuffle
(jack looks less beat up than the other two bc he died and healed himself when he resurrected)
