Tips for making colored gems
I wanted to share a neat trick I came up with to solve my gem dilemma. I know there are other ways to do this, like using clay to shape a gem and paint it, or even resin casting, but I thought this worked very well for me :D
The Kougyoku headpiece is supposed to have a red gem in the center, and I wanted to keep it as accurate as possible.
I had these little guys but they were just too small, and the wrong color.
***MY SOLUTION***
Materials needed:
clear gems
sand paper
4 sided nail buffer
nail polish or acrylic paint
You can buy these large clear gems or your preferred size/shape gems at a craft store. I got mine from Michaels near me! I liked this box of gems because it has a variety of shapes that can be used on different occasions.
The gems are clear in color but the back has a silver coating
First you want to sand the silver backing off the gem. Lay the sandpaper on a flat surface and rub the flat side of the gem in a circular motion until all the silver is removed. The gem will look cloudy because of all the scratches. Try not to rub the sandpaper on the gem while holding it because it causes the gem to become grooved and uneven.
This is when the magic happens!! Just like you would use the nail buffer on your nails, rub your gem in the same order. You will see it become clearer and smoother.
Ooh it’s clear now!
Now paint the back (flat side) of the gem with nail polish or acrylic paint with two to three layers. Ta Da~! You can make any color gem you want!
This is simple, but effective!
I hope this helped XD

Cosplay (and general sewing) life hack- easy pleats with a fork! For all those school girl uniform cosplays and more :)
Hey friends! Long time no post to this blog! Real life’s been kickin me in the pants lately so cosplaying has become a rare occurance for me, but since I had a little time to post this small tutorial to my IG, I figured I’d also post it here too!
I’ve had a lot of people ask me how I did my Widowmaker arms (bc yknow fuck body paint lol) so here’s a mini compilation of the process ✨ 🕷I started off with some seamless nylon gloves from eBay. They’re about $11-15ish depending on seller and come in white, black, and nude. They’re teeny tiny (see mini Deadpool hand lol), but amazingly they stretch? like A LOT??? Lol 🕷Not shown is the dyeing process, but it’s pretty straightforward. I used RIT DyeMore in royal purple and super diluted it until it gave me a pale purple color that matched my face paint. 🕷After they dried, I put on the right glove and lightly marked out where and how large I wanted my tattoo. 🕷I found a large enough image of Widow’s tattoo online and printed it out to the size of my arm, taped it in a tube, and stuffed the tube with extra fabric I had laying around. 🕷CAREFULLY stretch the glove over the tube and arrange it so your marks line up with the template and secure each side with rubber bands. 🕷Paint over those tedious-ass designs until you feel death come for you. I used Jacquard to avoid texture and the shiny look, but any fabric paint should do. 🕷Let the paint dry and then carefully peel the glove free from your paper template. 🕷Et voilà! Purple arms! If you wanna be really extra like me, paint some fake nails and glue them into the fingers for that natural dead goth spider-lady look lol

Corrin Build writeup?? Since I really need to document my craft stuff
Materials: 4mm, 6mm EVA foam, 2mm craft foam, contact cement(main adhesive), hot glue(mostly to keep conjoined parts from wobbling) plastidip, lightweight spackle, gold acrylic, rustoleum spray paint, 3d printing(used filler primer to fill and prime any 3d printed pieces)
1.) Closeup of chest plate (I’ll probably be resanding parts of it when I have time)
2.) The cape is 100% polyester, I pretty much just used any scissors to cut holes based off the reference, then I took a sanding sponge(regular sandpaper works fine) and roughed up the edges. That also keeps them from constantly frayin
4.) There’s plenty of bracer tutorials out there so the base of this is pretty much easier to figure out, but the shark fin looking pieces was two pieces of foam sandwiched together. I then dremeled the top part of the piece along to edge to make it look sharp. After I contact cemented it onto the base of the bracer, I took some lightweight spackling, watered it down and smeared some along the edge where I glued the piece down. After you smooth it out, wait for it to fully dry, and sand it out, that’ll give you a nice curved edge. I thought that it’ll crack easily, but using plastidip as a sealant has kept it from doing that.
5.) Diamond shaped knee pad is just attached to the calf piece cause I’m lazy
6.) 3D printed diamond shapes! (ignore the support) I got them printed at my university for about 13$. I then used a spray filler to make it smooth and sanded it down.
There was no worbla used at all, don’t always feel like you need expensive materials!
Always remember when building armor with contact cement, let it get a little tacky before sticking pieces together(like how you would apply eyelash glue). For pieces that will be pulled together a lot (say if you’re gluing the front and back of the chest piece together) you have to first coat a first layer of contact cement on both pieces, wait for that to dry, and then apply another layer and wait for that to get tacky and then attach the pieces together. That will make the pieces adhere MUCH easier and last longer.
EXPENSES: (general estimate, there’s probably a few things I’m missing) Mini contact cement x 4 = 20$ TNT EVA foam = 40$ Heat gun = 20$ Dremel = 30$ Paint, x 4 plastidip = 30$ Bodysuit = 15$ Craft foam roll = 8$ Cape fabric = 15$ Dangerous Ladies resin kit = 30$ Spackle = 6$ Sandpaper, sanding sponges = 10$ 3D print job = 13$ Filler primer = 5$

Another tutorial! This one tells you how to make articulated shoulder armor that bends with your arm. The shoulders were probably the most difficult piece for my Tyrael cosplay, so hopefully this will make things a bit simpler for others.
Cosplay Tip
If you’re planning cosplay a character with a catchphrase, meme or other obvious one line joke connected to it, ask yourself: “Do I like the idea of wearing this costume more than I dislike the idea hearing 2 or 3 obvious permutations of that phrase awkwardly yelled at me several thousand times over the course of one weekend?”
Stop attacking other people for looking different than the character they’re dressed up as! We need to be nice and accept one another! ‘Cause in the end, we’re all just a bunch of nerds, looking to have fun, right?
If I ever stop rebloging this, assume I’m dead
yes, but if you are white and are cosplaying a poc, please dont use makeup to darken ur skintone/change your eye shape/etc !!! thats pretty much brown/blackface which is disgusting. overall please just cosplay the character, dont cosplay their race. thanks have a nice day folks
