My god this is applicable to so many situations: this is in no way a WE situation.
things you should totes not view as positive portrayals of love/romance:
the great gatsby
romeo & juliet
the phantom of the opera
snape
50 shades of grey
Ted Mosbyâs pursuit of Robin from How I Met Your Mother Ross Gellerâs obsession with Rachel Green on Friends
TWILIGHT
agree with everything but snape. his love was so pure
Brad Pitt in Killing Them Softly.
Every damn frame is dripping with truth.
NEVER SEEN BUT MUST SEE NOW DAMN U DROPPIN TRUTH BRAD
my eyes have been streaming blood since i saw this quote last night
Imagine saying this without a hint of irony. Imagine being that dense and evil.
Stop Clickbait.

THE ONLY WALL THAT DESERVES ATTENTION GOING INTO 2019
I donât get why people hate immigrants so much⌠Like theyâre literally just⌠People⌠From another locationâŚ.
My partner is an immigrant from the UK and still holds his citizenship. At a recent event, an acquaintance talked about how many âimmigrantsâ get jobs over âCanadiansâ and they shouldnât allowed to be management (which my partner is). My partner reaches across the table and goes âHi, immigrant here!â and she goes âOh I didnât mean immigrants like youâŚâ And you can so tell they just mean âbrown peopleâ or âAsian peopleâ but they pretend itâs about jobs and shit.
Thatâs the same with my family. We were war immigrants from the soviet union and now live in Germany. Now the syrians are here because they also have war, and people keep asking me why Iâm defending them so mercilessly. And when I tell them that my family (that is still alive) has gone through the same bullshit. But they insist that both scenarios are completely different. Theyâre not different, youâre just racist.
THEYâRE NOT DIFFERENT. YOUâRE JUST RACIST.
HOLY SHIT This is a really good example of how people can learn and grow too. Iâm really proud of him for acknowledging that his past comments were dismissive and recognizes pagan regions as a personâs viable choice as a belief system.
For anyone curious, this tweet is from December 12, 2018. Good on Rick for growing as a human :)
black and asian vikings 100% definitely existed (also, saami vikings)
you know how far you can get into eurasia and africa by sailing up rivers from the baltic and mediterranean seas? pretty fucking far, and thatâs what vikings liked to do to trade
then, you know, people are people, so love happens, business happens, and so ppl get married and take spouses back home to the frozen hellscape that is scandinavia (upon which iâm guessing the horrorstruck new spouses went âWHAT THE FUCK??? FUCKING GIVE ME YOUR JACKET???????â)
and sometimes vikings bought thralls and brought them home as well, and i mean, when your indentured service is up after however many years and youâre a free person again, maaaaaaaaaaaaybe itâs a bit hard to get all the way home across the continent, so you make the best out of the situation and you probably get married and raise a gaggle kids
so yeah
viking kingdoms/communities were not uniformly pure white aryan fantasy paradises, so pls stop using my cultural history and ethnic background to excuse your racist discomfort with black ppl playing heimdall and valkyrie
Also we KNOW they got to Asia and Africa.Â
Why?
Because Asians, Africans, and Vikings TOLD US SO.Â
Also, we know there was significant mercantile trade between Scandinavia and parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Northern India, Kashmir, North and Eastern Africa because there is evidence in burial sites.
Check that out: the goods Vikings and Scandinavians were getting from their trade with the rest of the world was so important they buried themselves with it, as part of their treasure hordes.
We KNOW this.
Thereâs a reason you can still see many of the trade routes from the ancient world etched into the very earth.
Plus, we know that some Scandinavian cultures that participated in Viking raids had established minority communities of ethnically Mongolian folks living among them during the periods when such raids were common, and itâs difficult to credit that none of them would have signed on.

More about the Islamic World and Vikings (some Vikings converted to Islam! sort of sketchy site tho)
Viking technology came from Afghanistan

⌠is that enough? :)
Yet another on the pile of reasons why it monumentally honks me off when pusillanimous, pseudointellectual white supremacist scum try to use Scandinavian culture as a crutch for their arguments and act like Norse mythology agrees with their biases. No it fucking doesnât, bitch. Odin would personally kick you in the dick for being a witless coward and then send your ass to the Realm of the Dishonored Dead.
I donât usually reblog stuff, but this thread makes me so happy. See, I love the Viking aesthetic â I love the fusion of organic and geometric in its designs, I love the natural colors, the complexity of textures you get from juxtaposing metal/leather/cloth/furâ
âand I hate how the entire subculture has been so thoroughly co-opted by white supremacists. To the point where I, a person who likes viking stuff, am deeply and immediately suspect of anyone else who likes viking stuff, guilty until proven innocent, cuz thatâs what the odds are these days.
Anyway.
As far as Iâm concerned, anyone can be a viking, and thus I am so, so pleased to find that the historical record backs me up.
(And amused that Arab intellectual Ahmad ibn Fadlan was so thirsty for vikings.)
âSo what can we learn from this study? On the data side, we see that everything is proceeding as planned. Nobodyâs paying $50 for a burger at McDonaldâs, or $16 for a can of tuna at Safeway. Employers wish their profits were higher, and workers are glad they got a raise, but they wish they made more money. Three years after Seattle started down the road to $15, everything is as it should be. Those apocalyptic claims of destruction and business closures havenât been proven true. One thing the study didnât explain was why the sky didnât fall as promised. Why werenât workers laid off in droves, or replaced with robots? Why didnât prices skyrocket? Why does Seattle have more restaurants now than at any point in its history? Itâs because those workers who saw a raise now have more money to spend in the city around them. Those restaurant workers are eating in more restaurants. Theyâre buying more groceries. Theyâre buying more clothes and cars. That increased consumer demand is creating jobs, and more than paying for the increased minimum wage. The $15 minimum wage established a positive feedback loop that created growth in Seattle by including more people in the economy. In other words, it worked exactly as intended.â
â Seattleâs $15 Minimum Wage Experiment Is a Success (via allthecanadianpolitics)
Iâm gonna leave this right here.
When you give consumers money, they spend it. When you give old, rich, white men money, they hoard it.
People who like rocks see cool rocks everywhere. People who like birds see interesting birds everywhere. The tree on your yard could be an exceptional specimen. The world around you could be amazing and magical, but you arenât enough of a nerd to see it.
I gave my mum Alexandra Horowitzâs On Looking: Eleven Walks Through Expert Eyes for her birthday this year, itâs a book that revolves around this idea: the author invites 11 specialists in different things to walk around a boring city block with her one after the other so they can point out to her the things they see, that she doesnât notice. Thereâs an expert in typography talking about what the variety of fonts on urban signs can tell you about the cityâs history, an entomologist pointing out all the urban insects no one pays attention to, a geologist, a sound engineerâŚ
