Every song seems to start with the flick of a lighter, the crackling of buttery fly wings against the gentle embrace of a dark room- are these dreams we’re inhaling? We shouldn’t be up this late, but there’s still half a bottle of wine on your lips, and I need a drink like you need a place to put yourself out. A sweet scent lingers in your hair, and I’m happy in this negative square foot apartment, sitting by the window as moonlight sleeps on your face. I want to ask about the scar on your eyebrow because when I look at you I see stories, or is it star stuff? Someone is reading this, somewhere- they’re on the quiet part of a vinyl record, where everything sounds like candles burning. And I’m just happy to have breathed you in, felt your skin.

Because it felt, it feels, like
everything Autumn.
Your name is spring and summer,
so it’s natural your soul
is some kind of slipping into winter
because every time I’m
on your lips
I fall,
I’m small,
and that’s ok.
