…the wisteria is in full bloom this evening. perhaps master is right— my age has really caught up to me, for lately i have been calling off work early… yet i cannot actually mind this regression. not when at the end of the day, i get to see my friends, and especially her. everyone is busy at the time, she said. somehow i felt quite pleased of that fact.

she offered me tea, but i found myself more captivated by the idea of sitting next to her under the flourishing buds. i urged my companion to talk of her day; my aging muscles and exhaustion seemed to relax whenever she did. the bundled butterflies hairpin i gifted her years ago pinned her hair nicely; my creation is durable, as always. but i feel especially proud of the fact that it is something she possesses and must have taken good care of. another thing— my 睡莲, ever so kind friend, offered me her lap to rest on. do i look so worn out? perhaps i should ask baiheng for rejuvenating beauty products recommendations… …anyway, my feelings got the better of me and i allowed myself a little indulgence of her attention. i recall a few scolding words from her as i lie there; although i was too fixated on the gentle glint of her— and my— ring to actually listen. it was a rather crude piece of work and i wince at the crooked hercules knot everytime i look too close. but perhaps… someday i could craft a better band fitting for the nymphaea-hearted lady… this moment is seared in my memory, no matter how time and age will erode it… even if it would only add to the regret once my time in this world finally arrives. > note: she blends into the blooming scenery perfectly… i wonder if it’s because of her otherworldly lineage? or if my eyes are perceiving her with… [the writing on this page has become illegible due to time’s erosion…]

if you reached this point and actually read everything… what the hell /love + thank you a billion times TT i rlly wanted to picture and share smth about renkai’s past— when they were friends and somewhat naive + unaware of what will come, enjoying the wisteria blooms… i also um planted several easter eggs over this diary entry-esque caption lol!!!!! anw dividers credit goes to ourianna @/diviniyae and the comm was done by @/tunasthe2nd <33 who was so lovely and fun to work with!

[ july 19, 2026 : the day a miracle was born ]

12:00 — i asked you to trust me just this once. after plenty of whining, you let me tie the blindfold over your eyes anyway. one careful step after another, i guided you outside, reminding you not to peek every few seconds no matter how much you complained. when we finally stopped, i placed a homemade coffee jelly parfait into your hands, a single candle flickering quietly on top. i knew a birthday cake was never going to be your favorite, so i made something that suited your tastes instead. “if you don’t want the whipped cream . .” i whispered, “then i’ll eat it for you, easy peasy.”

She held out the spoon with a surprising amount of determination, as if she were physically restraining herself from taking the bite herself. “So . . first bite?”

Harumasa leaned in, then paused just before the spoon, looking up at her instead. “. . You’re really not going to eat it first?”

“It’s your birthday.”

“. . You practiced saying that, didn’t you?”

She turned her head away from him, guilty.

“Maybe.”

He laughed quietly before finally taking the bite.

“You did surprise me.”
