A group for people thinking about having a baby at home in Hackney and nearby
We are a volunteer-run group and we meet monthly (currently on Zoom) to talk about all things home birth and hear positive birth stories.
We also loan birth pools for free in Hackney and nearby.

Campaign to reinstate Homerton Hospital’s home birth service
Over 50 people, including pregnant women, their partners, doulas, antenatal teachers and birth workers have signed an open letter to Tracy Fletcher, Chief Executive of Homerton Hospital urging her to reconsider the suspension of home birth services and over 100 people have signed a petition.

Hackney parents and parents-to-be would like to see a transparent investigation by Homerton hospital into how staffing and safe transfer challenges could be addressed, and an assurance that all avenues have been explored particularly given that other trusts are continuing to operate a home birth service.
The Chelsea and Westminster hospital has reinstated its home birth services with the support of a private ambulance service for patient transport and the neighbouring borough of Tower Hamlets is continuing to offer its home birth service.
The announcement of the suspension of home birth services from the Homerton Hospital cited the fact that London Ambulance Service is under unprecedented pressure due to the Covid-19 outbreak and there is a “risk of delay if a homebirth mother requires an urgent transfer to hospital”.
Birthrights states that they believe that suspending home birth services “may be unlawful and could lead Trusts to be responsible for significant risk to life if women choose to birth without medical assistance.”
Numerous pregnant women have come forward to share their distress and concern about having their birth plans changed.
Online meet ups
Hello everyone
Due to Covid-19 we will be hosting all our meet ups onlina via Zoom in the near future.
Our next meet up will be Sunday 5 April, 10.30am - 12pm. All are welcome: birthing people, partners, families, etc.
On this call, we will be talking about how to have a home birth experience in hospital and hope to have a birth story from someone who had a positive hospital experience after planning for a home birth.
We will also be joined by Emma Pickett, a lactation consultant who has been supporting breastfeeding families since 2007. She is chair of the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers who run the National Breastfeeding Helpline with the Breastfeeding Network. She will join the session to talk to us about how to get started with breastfeeding and answer any of your breastfeeding questions. October and November meet-ups
We get together monthly to talk about all things home birth. If you're considering a home birth in Hackney or nearby, you're welcome to join us to hear birth stories, share your experiences and learn more about home birth. Mums-to-be are welcome to attend alone or bring partner, birth partner, doula, family member or a friend. Children are welcome.
October's meet-up will be this Sunday, 14 October, 10:30 until 12, at Hilary's place in Stamford Hill. If you'd like to know the address, please email [email protected]. It's up a flight of steps, so if that's tricky, come to the next one at Katy's, where there's just one.
November's meet-up will be Sunday 18 November at Katy's place in Homerton. Again, if you'd like to come, email us and we'll send you the address.

Weʼre fundraising £438 to buy three new birth pools. Over the years we've helped hundreds of people have the home birth they dream of. We have 12 pools in circulation and sometimes they spring a leak and need to be retired. Currently we have more requests for pools than we can accommodate.
