Liza’s already short of breath -- making out on the couch while your friends are out walking or… something… will do that to you, she supposes. Whatever it is Amity and Steve are doing isn’t her concern. What is, though, is the way Bucky just called her beautiful like that -- like she is quite literally the most beautiful person he’s ever seen.
Even though her hair is mussed from his hands and her cheeks are flushed and she’s basically panting -- there’s something in his eyes making her heart flip-flop, a sincerity there that softens her desperation just the smallest bit. “Really?” She asks quietly, her fingers sliding into his hair as she holds his gaze, a soft smile pulling at her lips.
Her thighs squeeze his hips and she lets her nose brush against his. “I’ve never felt like this before… no one’s made me feel… beautiful like this.” Liza mutters quietly, the admission making her cheeks warm all over again, her gaze shying away as the nerves skittered through her system.
Bucky didn't want to break away from the bewitching allure of those soft lips, but unfortunately, he was running out of air, and if he wanted to keep kissing her, he needed to give himself at least a second or two to breathe. But when he does manage to pull away, and he sees the rise and fall of Liza's chest as she also tries to catch her breath? When his eyes take in the perfect flush trailing across her cheeks? And those brilliant eyes staring up at him... ❝God, you're beautiful ━━ ❞ the words just slip out, breathless, vulnerable, but wholly, completely true.
At her question, his right hand shifts out from its place within those brunette waves of hers, the warmth of his palm pressing to cradle her face as his thumb brushes gently along her cheekbone, ❝Yes, really.❞ He makes sure to meet her gaze when he speaks, determined for her to see the sincerity that is resting there within his eyes, ❝So, so beautiful.❞
He even opens his mouth to further elaborate, but that's when her fingers slide into his hair, and fuck, he falters, a low groan sounding in his throat. And as if he wasn't already struggling, the gorgeous woman beneath him, his gorgeous woman, squeezes her thighs about his hips and those thoughts that had faltered just seconds before? They became completely, entirely derailed...
So for a moment, it's all Bucky can do to gently rest his forehead against hers, to let himself relish in the brush of her nose against his, as he tries to will himself to form proper coherent thoughts once more.
But it isn't any prodding from himself that finally shifts him into gear, no, it's Liza's admission... The quiet murmur of her words, and the heartbreaking way her gaze shies away from his. ❝Hey...❞ Dark brows furrow as his other hand reaches to carefully crook a metal finger beneath her chin, a silent plea for her to look at him, ❝Liza, listen to me. You are beautiful, okay? Hell, you are the single most beautiful woman I have ever had the pleasure of laying eyes on, and I am the luckiest guy in the world that I get to see you like this, to be with you like this..." he clears his throat then, can feel the warmth starting to color his cheeks now, ❝You deserve to be made to feel like this every single fucking day, okay? And I promise I will take any and every opportunity to make sure you know that, without any shadow of a doubt, for however long you will have me, alright?❞

Steve pauses in his washing of the dishes, glancing sidelong at Bucky with a slightly knowing smirk. He’s seen how his best friend has followed after Liza like a puppy, how Bucky’s been smiling more, and not in a self-depreciating and… sardonic way. This trip for the four of them had been the best idea, the opportunity to get away and just exist without expectation. And watching his best friend trip head over heels for the brunette in the other room has been its own kind of blessing. All he's ever wanted is for Bucky to be happy, find some peace.
Maybe he has found it.
“Well… I did love Peggy, still have a place for her in my heart.” He says, glancing back at the dishes. “I think it could have been more, if we had a chance I could have been in love with her.” Steve hands over the last plate before letting the sink drain. His gaze turns properly on the other man and he smiles softly again. “And I think… what I feel for Amity? I’m headed that way.” He was pretty sure part of him always had been, with her. Steve let her slip away once, he wasn’t about to let it happen ever again.
A soft sigh escapes and he glances out the window towards the beach. “I think you just gotta ask yourself how she makes you feel, Buck. When you’re with her, what else matters, y’know?”
Bucky can still remember the way Steve and Peggy seemed to only have eyes for each other that night he had met her. Hell, the last voice he had heard before he'd gone into the ice had been hers... Of course she would always have a place in his heart. Buck just hadn't been certain if it had been love. And now, seeing the way his best friend is with Amity, he supposes it was a bit of a stupid question to even ask, but that's neither here nor there, really...
As he takes the last plate, he watches the other man thoughtfully. And for a moment, as he goes about drying it, he's quiet, contemplating. After a beat, he finally responds, ❝...Happy.❞
There's a pause as he follows Steve's gaze out the window, staring at the ocean as it laps along the shoreline, ❝As much as someone like me ever gets the chance to be, I mean.❞
He goes quiet again as he reaches out to put the final plate away in the cupboard before turning to face his friend once more, ❝When I'm with her, it's like there... Isn't anything else, you know? Just her. She smiles, and it lights up my entire world, and fuck, Steve it's never been like this...❞
It's vulnerable in a way that he's still learning how to be, but it's honest.

Liza had forgotten to set the coffee pot last night, and was now regretting everything. Yeah, it had been worth it to be able to just fall into bed last night after staying up too late with the other three, sitting outside and talking over burnt marshmallows and the naturally messy state of s’mores.
Now, though? She just wants coffee, and is the only one in this house that actually needs the caffeine. Can’t believe I’m the only regularly-metabolizing person in this house, she thinks as the struggle continues. Bleary-eyed, hair in a messy bun, little flyaways framing her face as she battles with the filter. She huffs when she hears Bucky’s voice, the sentiment sending her heart into a tizzy, but she looks over at him with a small pout.
“Careful… cute does not mean harmless, especially before coffee.” She mutters before giving up and turning fully to face him, eyes pleading pitifully now. “Bucky… help, it’s not agreeing with me, and at this rate the sun will be up fully before I’ve even started this dumb thing. Please?”
Bucky's gaze is soft with affection as he watches Liza go about the kitchen in her quest to make coffee. He's only been leaning against the doorframe for a minute or so, but he doesn't announce his arrival quite yet... In the quiet hush of the morning, he wants to just appreciate her all to himself for a few precious moments.
It's only when she appears to be battling with the coffee filter that he finally speaks up, voice still rough from sleep.
And jesus, he is acutely aware of the way his heart seems to stumble within his chest as she turns her head to look at him, that small pout far more adorable than it has any right to be. Oh, he really is an absolute goner when it comes to her, isn't he?
A low chuckle rumbles in his chest at her warning, ❝I wouldn't dream of insinuating you were ever harmless,❞ he pushes off the doorway then, and slowly makes his way over to her spot at the counter. When she turns to fully face him, he is already behind her, and he gets to experience those pleading eyes up close and personal. Yep, a complete and total goner ━━━ As if he seriously needed any confirmation at all.
Both hands come to rest gently along her upper arms, flesh and metal giving a reassuring squeeze as he meets her gaze, ❝Alright, I'll have a look at it, see if I can't get it to cooperate here...❞ Then he carefully ushers her just off to the side, so he can get a proper look at the current source of his girl's problems.
Taking the filter in his right hand, he doesn't think twice before he's lowering it into the coffee machine. Granted, it does take a few adjustments before it lays down properly, but once it has, he reaches for the container of ground coffee. And after putting in enough for four people, in case Amity and Steve want any, he pushes the start button and then turns to Liza, ❝I'd say you definitely softened it up for me, that's why it went that smoothly.❞

And just like that, Liza had completely disarmed him.
Why does this feel different? What is it about her that has him feeling this confusing mix of invincible, but also so entirely, wholly vulnerable?
Stormy eyes lifted to meet hers, and after a moment of searching those soft, beautiful features of her face, the answer seemed to click effortlessly into place... As if it was the missing piece of the puzzle this whole time. But it was far too soon for such strong feelings... Wasn't it? She was fantastic, amazing, absolutely wonderful... And he really didn't want to come barreling out the gate and scare her off with his big-ass feelings. But he didn't have to tell her the full extent of those feelings, did he? Just tell her the basics, that's more than enough, for now, right?
Clearing his throat, Bucky took a step closer towards her, ❝Well, I can only speak from my own experience here, and I'm not an expert or anything, but...❞ He reached out to carefully tuck a stray strand of brunette hair behind Liza's ear before he let his hand fall back to his side, ❝I think it's because I like you...❞ A pause before he adds, ❝A lot.❞
