Vintage suits and goodyear welted shoes

In the Tack Room. Attending to my vintage 1936 bespoke Hunting Pink. Made by tailors W.A.Stimson, Eton and Hannover Sqr. London for Lord George William Montagu-Douglas Scott, 3rd son of the 6th Duke of Buccleuch. A truly amazing garment with the most beautiful brass buttons. I am giving the brass buttons of my vintage Hunting jacket a well-deserved polishing using my 1955 standard army issue brass button stick to keep the Brasso and dirt away from the red cloth. The brass buttons have the most beautiful monogram beneath a Duke's coronet: B and Q - Buccleuch & Queensbury. The current Duke of Buccleuch, Richard Scott, is the largest private landowner in the United Kingdom.

During the recent Easter holidays I only spent limited time on sartorial pursuits. I altered an 8-9 year-old shirt; replacing the worn single cuffs with new white double cuffs. As I do not find striped collars versatile I altered it into a narrow rim meant for detachable collars. I made button-holes by hand front and back for the collar studs and once again I was reminded that I need to work on my button-hole making skills ☺

Recently I acquired a lovely antique wooden seat stick; I do not know the history behind this well-crafted item, but I have seen seat sticks similar to this from late 19th Century London (sword maker R.S. Garden, Picadilly). The hinges work like a marvel and details in the making are well cared for; except for a few woodworm holes the stick is in fine condition and quite functional.

A windy day at the beach in my vintage 1924 Eton College sports jumper and cream moleskin shorts.

I acquired a pair of captoe oxford brogues ("Old English" style in Vass terms) on the U-last with a single oak-bark tanned leather sole. Colour is "antic cognac".The fit is snug and much appreciated also a tight fit to the heals. True UK size (I am a UK size 8½)I am very positively surprised about the quality, the craftmanship in the details, and the design. I cannot vouch for performance over time, but first hand impression is definitely good!

Once again I was in luck and scored a truly unique vintage Gentleman's garment: a cable knit sports jumper from Eton College dated 1924. The jumper is made of cream/natural wool and has red trimmings with a grey double line; it is in a remarkably good state age taken into consideration! knit still being crisp and wearable; only a few spots of discolouration..

The jumper is from the past local Eton hatter & outfitter E. C. Devereux; a retail store situated on the High Street and run by generations of Devereuxs. A name tag saying J. C. G. Vowler, 1924.
