Hæxan : two times full moon this moanþ

Oasmoanþ is special this year with two times full moon for Hæxan.

Oasmoanþ/Eïnahtagh I (22 april) as the beginning of the month,and Oasmoanþ/ Sonahtagh III (21 may) as last day of the Hæxan month.

Looking forward to go into the woods! I like the moonlight on my skin.

Black fingers

Since the early days, the 'black' fingers were the result of walnut husks, ash, soot, berries and (chicken, pigs or human) blood. The husks of the black walnut are used to make an ink for writing and drawing. Walnut ink has good archival properties, and has been used by several great artists including Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt. The husks and the other ingredients were kneaded with only the fingers. With these mixture rituals were performed. Haexan (Uuurrah) still use these rituals by full moon (Moanah) or other holidays. In some rituals also the forhead, breasts, belly or feet are painted with these mixture or other kinds of mixtures during the chants. After the ritual the hands and other bodyparts are cleaned with salt, water and natural vinegar. Be carreful because you can not remove the colour totally. It is like some kind of a tattoo. The only option is to wear it off. Therefore the mixture is mostly used on bodyparts you can not see in public. Fashion has adopted the look on the catwalk, but they use removable bodypaint.

Uyhgstmoanþ

Yesterday, August 21th started a new month or ‘moanþ’ (Hæxan) for Hæxan. The name of the new month is ‘Uyhgstmoanþ’ which means harvest month. Hæxan still use the old calendar.

In ancient days the Germanic peoples had names for the months which varied by region and dialect, which were later replaced with local adaptations of the Roman month names. For example : Weod-mōnaþ "Plant month" (Old English), Aran-mānod "harvest month" (Old High German).

In the late medieval to early modern period, dialectal or regional month names were adopted for the use in almanachs like Erntemonat "harvest month" (German), oogstmaand "harvest month" (dutch), Rispmoanne "harvest month" (West Frisian)

The old Icelandic calendar is not in official use any more, but some Icelandic holidays and annual feasts are still calculated from it. It has 12 months, broken down into two groups of six often termed "winter months" (Skammdegi "Short days") and "summer months" (Náttleysi "Nightless days") Tvímánuður (mid August – mid September, "two" or "second month") Like a mentioned before the Hæxan calendar is also broken in two groups of six months called ‘somar’ (summer) and ‘uuinþar’ (winter)
