Are you a Gold Star lesbian? (Just in case you don't know what it means, a Gold Star lesbian is a lesbian that has never had sex with a guy and would never have any intentions of ever doing so)

The concept of “gold stars” creates a harmful and patriarchally based hierarchy. It contributes to the erasure of women’s experiences and journeys. It also ignores the fact that many women have contact with men NOT by their own choosing. The gold star question invalidates and attempts to discredit anyone who has been assaulted or raped. This question merely exists to place a higher value on women who are considered more “pure” in their lesbianism than others. We don’t need this kind of competitive and negating ranking in the lesbian community. Lesbians already fight every day for visibility, recognition, and acknowledgement of their sexuality as genuine. The gold star conversation detracts from this struggle and actually invalidates women of all sexualities.I would strongly urge you to remove the term gold star from your vocabulary entirely, and consider the harm you’re doing by perpetuating these stereotypes.
