Tera was born in San Francisco and lived there with her parents for most of her life. From an early age she was pushed into the performing arts, but at age twelve began to realize she enjoyed working behind the scenes more. Tera became fascinated with the tech aspect of theatre and film, taking an interest in directing and stage management. When she was sixteen she moved to LA with her mother, and auditioned for Hollywood Arts.

Tera sighed, flopping down on her new mattress. The boxes stacked up around her felt like a weight on her chest. She knew she had to start unpacking sooner or later, but right now, she just didn’t have the energy. She barely had the energy to put the sheets on her bed. She wanted to just go to sleep right where she was, and wake up with everything put together.

Closing her eyes and kicking off her shoes, she curled up on her bare mattress. She was drifting off to sleep when she heard her mom call her from the other room. She groaned and pushed herself up, walking to the bathroom and dousing her face with water, blinking a few times. She checked the time on her phone. It was barely even four o'clock. Great. She wouldn’t even be able to get away for dinner until at least another two hours. 

“Theresa!” her mom shouted again. “I told you, I need your help! Get out here.”

Tera rolled her eyes. “I’m coming, mom!”

Bio—3rd Person/Past Tense:

Tori grew up feeling like the favorite child and she didn’t love it. She didn’t crave attention like her sister did but maybe that was because she got so much more of it from her parents. She loves her sister dearly though, and even if Trina can be a handful - she’s never resented Tori for anything and she does have her shining moments. Their dad is a cop and that put quite a lot of stress on their mom, especially when Trina and Tori were young. They all used to move around a lot when her father was a less senior police officer because he would get transferred to different precincts. It was only once Trina got in to Hollywood Arts that they stopped moving around and much to her delight, Tori was promised that they would stay at least until she finished high school. She has a lot of friends around the country and she does her best to stay in contact with them and up to date on their lives. Her friends from her old high school, though weren’t too thrilled about her move to Hollywood Arts and a lot of them stopped talking to her because they thought that she had changed and thought she was superior now that she went to a performing arts school.

Writing Sample—3rd-person/past tense, at least TWO full paragraphs IN CHARACTER:

“Trina!” She bellowed from the bottom of the stairs. It was already ten minutes past the time they needed to leave to make it to school on time and there was still no sign of her sister.

“Trina, we’re going to be late.”

No response.

“Trina, come on! I have a project due in this morning.”

Nothing.

Alright, then. Time for a different tactic.

“Hey, Trina? Were you expecting something in the mail?” She sang out as innocently as she could, opening and closing the front door for added effect. If she knew her sister, and she did, the allure of something being delivered for her might just be enough to drag her away from her bathroom mirror and downstairs. Sure, the other girl might be a little upset when she realised the trick but Tori would just have to think of a way to distract her from that once it happened.

Ten minutes later, they were finally on their way to school and Tori was smiling victoriously to herself. Trina hadn’t been impressed by the lack of anything for her downstairs but it had still worked out and she doubted that her sister was even thinking of it now as she sang along with the radio in her standard, aggressively off-key, fashion. Trina wasn’t the best driver in the world and she could become unbearable if you were trapped in the car with her for too long but Tori still loved these little car rides.

Even before she had started at Hollywood Arts, her sister had taken the time to drop her at school in the morning which she had appreciated. It definitely beat the gross bus that took forever and it was nice to spend a little bit of time with the other girl. The trips were just short enough that they rarely fought during them but long enough for Trina to tell her all about the new guy she had her eye on or the plot for the next play she was auditioning for. And now that they were at the same school, Tori could sometimes offer more information about those plays or any gossip she had picked up about the guy of the moment. But mostly she listened. Trina did a lot of talking but Tori sometimes felt like she was one of the few people that really listened to her and it went both ways. Sometimes, late at night the two would have impromptu deep conversations over ice cream or if their parents weren’t home they would order a massive pizza. No matter how much Trina frustrated Tori sometimes, she really did love her and she knew that if she really needed help then she could turn to her big sister.

Drew Robert was born in New Jersey, the oldest of two children, and the one who showed the most artistic talent. While his younger brother seemed to be the brain of the family, Drew excelled in music, acting, and art. In his small town, Drew had limited options to further his talent, growing up in the local theaters to help himself grow. At the age of 16, Drew’s father lost his job and was hoping to open hi sown business with the money he’d saved over the years. The family was looking for a fresh start, and Drew begged his parents to shift themselves to California so that he could attend the notorious Hollywood Arts. His parent agreed, wanting to further their son’s talent and dreams and headed west to Los Angeles. Drew knew he wasn’t the typical actor type, but his talent showed over everything else, granting him access to the school and getting Drew one step closer to his dream.

Someone should have given Drew Roberts the heads up that Hollywood was way different from his small Jersey town. I was only a month in to his time at Hollywood Arts, but he assumed that by that time he would have gotten used to things an found his way around easier. Still there was no luck, as Drew got lost in the big city on occasion and hadn’t yet managed to make a friend. He was usually a friendly guy, not at all the outcast type, but the attractive teens in his school who were already starring in films and television made him nervous. He felt out of place at most times, keeping to himself and observing.

Drew wanted to fit in more than anything, but he was always afraid to make the first move. Being a teenager was hard and he was suddenly missing him life long friends from back home. It was enough to make him quit and go back, but he knew he couldn’t. His parent made  sacrifice for his career, and more than anything, he couldn’t just give up on his dream and let them down. Even if he had to be a loner, there was no way he was going to quit. At lunch, while sitting at a table in the corner, he’d often see a small group of kids his age laughing and eating at the same table every day. Granted they were the same attractive and intimidating kids he saw all the time, he’d seen them a round and from what he’d heard, they were nice. If he could muster up the courage, he might be able to make a friend, right?  His resolve burned in his chest as he shot up from his seat and held his lunch tray firmly as he made his way to their table. Nervously he cleared his throat, eyes darting back and forth between all the group of kids. “Uh…h-hi. Would it….would it be cool if I sat here?” he as hopefully.

Bio—3rd Person/Past Tense:

Robbie Shapiro had a rather rough childhood. At a young age his parents began to fight, which would lead to their divorce. It was a very disfunctional time, especially for the young Robbie. He began to believe that it was his fault that his parents no longer loved each other; his mother and father, too busy screaming at each other, never told him otherwise. (Perhaps this explains Robbie’s locker at Hollywood Arts or the few times he has been caught on fake profiles, as this traumatic experience still lingers in his soul). He felt directionless and alone until he decided to audition for Hollywood Arts. Upon his acceptance, things began to look up for him. His social skills were still underdeveloped, but he found his place in a group of friends that he would not change for the world. His sense of humor is sometimes odd, but he knows that his friends will support him no matter what. Finally, he is happy.

I have endlessly debated what I want to para about, but I have decided upon the arrival of Tori. Hope you like it.

   Robbie Shapiro sat at the usual lunch table, Cat at his side. They were making their usual chatter about nothing in particular, Robbie trying not to blush everytime Cat giggled at his jokes. It was a sunny day at Hollywood Arts, and everything was as usual. Only one thing could disturb such a peaceful moment: the perfect disaster that was Jade West. 

   Jade came storming up, Beck at her side. “Are you..covered in coffee?” Robbie asked Beck, noticing his soaked shirt and strong scent. He quickly regretted saying anything. Jade started going off on one of her rants: a long, powerful speech that made everyone around her inferior. Robbie feared the worst, as too often he was the victim of her belittling. Today, however, he dodged a bullet. It was Tori Vega, the new girl at Hollywood Arts, that Jade had a problem with.

   Robbie knew who Tori was. He had seen her perform in place of her older sister, Trina. That being said, he had never actually met the brunette for himself. It was clear that she was incredibly talented, and Andre had said great things about her before. Robbie zoned out, ignoring Jade completely, and wondered what she was like. Would she think he was funny? Was she kind and loyal? Would she be friends with him- with all of them?

   ”Jade,” he said, interrupting her, “she could be a really cool person.” It was the first time Robbie Shapiro ever spoke up to Jade West.

   And he paid a price for it.
