Januwormy 2017

It’s a new year and that means another year of fakemon. So I am challenging artists to include some taxonomic diversity. Some oft-neglected groups of animals which Pokemon itself has yet to capitalize upon. I am, of course talking about worms!

Platyhelminthes- flatworms, flukes, tapeworms

Annelida- earthworms, leeches, bristleworms, tube worms

Nematoda- roundworms

Nemertea- ribbon worms

Chaetognatha- arrow worms

Hemichordata- acorn worms

Nematomorpha- horsehair worms

Priapulida

So many animals share the body plan of a worm….and yet they are all neglected.

Gen 7 has given us a taxonomic bounty in the form of flies and a cockroach, however the pokemon world is still devoid of annelids, as well as other worms! I challenge fakemon makers to make January 2017 into #januwormy

A pokemon with a overused type combination (e.g. grass/poison or normal/flying) that is more out of the box than the canon ones

An english inspired fakemon

An inanimate object pokemon that isn’t a ghost, steel, poison or electric type (those are common types that inanimate object based pokemon have)

Create an Ultra beast

Create a Fakemon based on a cryptid

Ice type that is mixed with fire

Create a Pokemon based on Ancient Egyptian or Greek or Native American Mythology

Randomly generate an ability and a type combination and create a pokemon that would have both

A fossil pokemon based on a quetzalcoatlus

A fossil pokemon based on a parasaurolophus

Take two canon or your own fakemon, then mix them together so much that it isn’t a splice but rather a whole nother species of fakemon

Create a new type specifically for this fakemon

Why not?… A DEMONIC fakemon

The end of era’s pokemon

#??? | Cinnataur | Normal | The Cinnamon Bun PokemonThis Pokemon is loved by all due to his sweet scent and delicious taste. Yes, you heard me, delicious taste. Cinnataurs, with their Yeast ability, grow back every time a bite is taken out of them. Of course they don’t have this ability until they are happy with you.

These pokemon like to hang around people’s houses. People, however, do not like them around there. You’ll see the occasional trainer with one of these guys. It’s rare.

PokeAdvent: Day 4, “Northern Lights”

Found in icy areas, they attract pokemon with an array of colorful lights, which are thousands of degrees hot. Due to pokemon attacks not harming humans, however, people gather around to see the spectacles of Auroracadabras.

PokeAdvent: Day 3, “A Cool Physics Concept” - “Time Stops at the Speed of Light”

As someone who’s taking physics, I find no concept cool, but I digress. These Pokemon only appear in daytime, you can not even battle with them at night. But they are extremely powerful, as they slow the enemy pokemon so much, it’s like they’re freezing time.

Pokemon Advent: Day 2, “Strange Cuisine”

#??? | Cerebralut | Psychic | The Duck Embryo Pokemon

Balut is definitely a strange cuisine in which I do not support, but it made a neat fakemon. You must be extremely in sync with your Cerebralut to have it do anything. Even trainers that can control their Cerebaluts are unsure what they are thinking, or if they will listen, because it only moves in battle.

Pokemon Advent: Day 1, “Snowman That Isn’t Ice Type”

#??? | Hairachnid | Bug | The Snowman Pokemon

This pokemon had an uninviting appearance long ago, and was only trained by the brave, or the blind. Hairachnids are sweet, however, and want to be trained. They adapted to look like a snowman, but that’s no snow, that’s a Hairachnid’s hair. It’s actually quite disgusting, but cute.

THE POKEMON ADVENT CALENDAR CHALLENGE

After taking a break for like ALL of November it’s time to come back! This time, with a Fakemon challenge of my own, since that seems to be the only way I can be bothered to create things nowadays. 

I’m going to be doing sprites for all of these but you can create them in any medium you want: sketches, digital art, even just text descriptions if you want. I’ll be using the tag #pokeadvent to keep track of everything.

The challenge starts on 1 December and runs for the rest of 2016 (wow where did this year go). Obligatory “you don’t have to do all the entries,” “you can do them in any order,” yada yada yada… Without further ado! The prompts:
