āLife consists of two days, one for you one against you. So when itās for you donāt be proud or reckless, and when itās against you be patient, for both days are test for you.ā

and you made flowers grow in the black hole my chest had become. and your light scared my demons away. loving you is worth it, darling, even if you donāt love me.

Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime.

my heart breaks everytime a brown girl wishes she had lighter skin, gurrrrrrl looove yourself. you are blessed. you are gorgeous. look how that skin glows and sparkles. you are magical.
how do you explain to someone that you donāt want to die but existing is just a little too hard for you right now
For black girls who have to pretend to be strong yet go home breaking down in the middle of the night, trying to breathe. Trying to breathe. For black girls battling depression. For those who feel so alone in a world telling them the disease is for whites alone. Please, live. For black girls who are imperfect, insecure and trying to fit into a world that stifles their voice. For black girls still learning to glow. For black girls trying to fit into a world so afraid of their beauty they sell them cream to lighten their skin. For their black skin. For black girls who smile when they see themselves represented.

She wears it so beautifully doesnāt she, her pain⦠Always smiling, always positiveā¦. always happy to help⦠Itās like a garment perfectly tailored to fit the way she carries it⦠with a touch of grace⦠and the quietness of that sad smileā¦. All so youād never know how heavy it really was.

why is it always the woman who has to see past the beast in the man? why does she always have to clean his wounds, even after he has damaged her beyond repair? why is it always the man who is worthy of forgiveness for being a monster? I want to see the beast in the beauty. the half smile, half snarl. the unapologetic anger. I would like to see the man forgive the monster. to see her, blood and all, and love her anyway.

I know girls who spill Iām sorryās from their mouths like they pump blood to their veins. Sometimes, I am one. I know girls who apologize for asking to go to the bathroom in class, who apologize for everything because they feel like they are taking up more than their fair share of space on this planet. Everything starts with an Iām sorry and ends with one too, constant bookends that we donāt even notice anymore. We delete her apology the way we delete likes and ums from speech. I know girls with ten times more apologies than misdemeanors and I wonder how often they hear Itās okay. Youāre more than okay.

Be careful when you touch my heart for the edges are sharp. Sharper than the butchers blade that carved it up. Sharper than the tips of the lances they held as they eviscerated it. So if for some unfathomable reason you wish to touch my heart, be careful the edges are sharp.
