A Note on Improvisation
I am an improvisor. My art is often improvised. The power of improvisation is increased with muscle memory. This is how I believe one can access their subconscious mind. With the muscle memory of many different lines and techniques, I like drawing the same line or shape many times while observing the subtle differences in each, or gradually changing the line as I repeat it. This variance gives life to repetitive motifs.    I give my muscles a certain creative freedom because I know I can reproduce certain lines and shapes with minimal variance, thus allowing my analytical mind to let go. My subconscious takes over and the lines flow freely. As an artist who is most comfortable with lines, I find myself growing as I let lines take control while I focus on composition and color, which are two aspects of art creation I want to focus more on.
In Which I Share A Process With You 7/26/18
Today I am going to create. Right now, I am on break at work. Once I'm off work, I'm going home to create a couple things: First, I want to just get into the creative flow with some good ol' crayon drawings. I've been using lines of crayon to build volume in portraits. Once I've gotten a bit of a groove going, I will like to experiment with some video stuff. My buddy Joe will be around and perhaps we will do a dual livestream featuring video games and art creation. Crayons and ink have been a staple in my improvisational art processes. I am typically an explorer of lines. Crayons and ink cause me to envision the state of something after it is engulfed and completely changed. As I lay down crayon, I know the spots that aren't heavily fortified with wax will be immersed in brayed ink. There is a range of possibilities with ink on crayon, as a lighter-colored ink will not be completely opaque, thus preserving yet changing the wax below. Ink will fill in even the tiniest gaps inherently left by strokes of crayon. My process has become a game to protect those lines which I can conceive from the broad, unpredictable liquid legions that must invade my wax framework. As I experiment today, I will think about how my life's framework is protecting me from unidentified blankets of misfortune, or conversely how it is exposing me.
My name is Pasqual Artise. My artist name is Squalart. I like to make art in whatever way feels right. I'm curious because there are so many possibilities, especially when combining forms. I like to develop/discover a process that works for me, and then permutate as I explore the different ways I express within the chosen parameters. Working with other artists is a great way to explore new mediums, techniques, and mindsets. I like brainstorming with creatives to come to some agreement about an aesthetic, idea, install, etc. I want to flow with concurrent creative energy amongst individuals in a state of Timeless Dimensional Escape. This timelessness is a mindstate. The dimensions are up to the constituents. The escape is relative but straightforward. As creation ensues, worldly desires and stresses are lifted. A sandbox allowing fresh ideas to be immediately tested/implemented. Slated musical acts supplement the everflowing visual output. As our sights and sounds interact, we realize what we want. It's in the front of our minds. Right here. Now.
Good Morning 7/24/18
I had a beautiful day yesterday. I spent the day with a special friend and we had breakfast, walked around, got some art supplies, took naps, drank wine, cried, drove around, went to the beach, and stuff. It was nice to be in the presence of someone so in tune with their emotions. We realized that so many things happen in our lives and we just wish we could cry but we keep it down! How healthy it felt to let some pain out, take some breaths, and just be aware of our emotions and why we feel this way. Friendship is a beautiful thing that every single person deserves. I think about the amount of time I've spent in my life not expressing my feelings for fear of being shrugged off or pegged as needy or something. I rejoice in the realization that it always feels better to say what you feel, even if the results seem negative. To go any amount of time keeping something bottled up is a disservice to yourself and those around you! Feeling thankful for friends and family.
P.S. I read that @MsLaurynHill got cut short at her show in Detroit! I really hope #stpete FL doesn't make the same mistake!

We have submitted our proposal to the Museum of Fine Art in St Petersburg. It is an installation for a winter holiday celebration. Using projected light, touch-activated sound boxes, and hanging objects such as ornaments and prisms that reflect and refract light, it will be an interactive wonderland for the always-hot-and-sticky city. We had a combined CV featuring international and local clients. I am excited about the potential project! We decided as a group that even if it doesn’t get chosen, we can use our ideas for another venue. This collective (current name uncertain) is interested in creating art and sonic/visual stimuli with technological devices and techniques. visual projections, hand-crafted musical instruments, video dj-ing, and more! I feel very healthy and happy among similar artists to me! I’ve been spending good free time, enjoying the present, loving and living. I’m usually trying to charge full speed ahead at whatever challenge comes my way, but it feels good to go with the flow when there isn’t a clear offensive route to take. I think I’ve found myself in one of life’s many waiting games. Currently, I am achieving an extremely important and liberating goal. This will take some time, as I’m currently trying to patch a leaking ship in a financial sense, but I am confident about how things are going. The balance I am seeking is very Wabi Sabi, but in a conservative sense. As I continue grow and save, my life becomes more simple, less wasteful, and more meaningful. My art takes on a new life as it always does on this part of the upswing.
The most valuable lesson I learned this week: Spot the people who don’t serve you and GET them out of your life. I realized that I was susceptible to looking past blatant red flags just because I thought someone had what I wanted. Once I realized that I was accruing a lot of unaccounted extra stress, I looked at my life and saw a blood-sucking leech on my shoulder! Ha, this has been a PSA. How’s your week?

good morning. lots of stuff happening in my life. I'm just now realizing almost all of it is art related, and that actually gives me such an optimistic outlook. First of all, last night was Doodle 4 Noodles, an event I started which is an art meetup/food party. I drew four lovely (to me) fictional portraits with crayon. My process was to use color to build volume on the face. There was a nice little group of people there, all drawing! Among them was a new friend of mine, Allison, who is spearheading a new local art group called OK!Transmit. It is an Art+Tech meetup with the goal of using technology and art to expand the boundaries of imagination through collaboration. OK! We have taken on the challenge of submitting a proposal to "Deck the Hall" of MFA. We have some cool ideas, and I am responsible for sketching the ideas! It will be an install of lights, sound, and color! I'm super excited about OK!Transmit because the other founder is a designer with an extremely impressive tech background. He plans on having creative tech workshops like using code to create dynamic graphics, which is just SO up my alley I simply can't consider this all a coincidence. My life is art and I simply can't turn away. Even when I choose to procrastinate on specific projects, everything else in my life is revolving around my commitment to art, even my job (bless up)!!! I'll briefly mention other projects I'm involved with: a logo animation for a local tech sales company that so graciously decided to give the job to a local artist/animator(me!). Video editing for Floating Roots podcast. Floating Roots is a music blog dedicated to sharing and promoting positive music. I am so grateful to all the wonderful people in my life, sharing love and art. A special thanks to my lovely parents who are always there for me.
Blog Post 01
Before I go to bed: thinking about many things I want to do, I grow anxious being unable to do them all right this second. I've decided to think a little more deeply about my goals, ideas, etc. This blog will just be a place to throw thoughts.Â
Right now I am working a 9-5 video editing job, and getting more accustomed to this great balancing act. I wish I had more time to do personal creative things, but there are many more things I'll be able to create if I just save enough to get a more powerful computer. Then, I'll be able to slowly build a local reputation as a freelancer. I want my creative output to be focused on collaboration with other individuals for the promotion of a vibrant underground. This includes creating dynamic, eclectic, and/or live visuals for musicians. This also includes working for brands or people I truly believe in, as my creative energy deserves that sacred standard. I have to be proud of the work I'm making. If I need money, I might do work I'm less passionate about, but that is something I desire to eventually phase out of my life. I am very comfortable and stable at my current job, but it's inevitable that I will eventually outgrow it. I crave a much more creative input than that. But I think I will see that I will be ready to move on around the same time I figure out this balancing act. I must cleanse my spirit, wash away bad habits, focus on goals and health.Â
Amazing.
Parce qu'il le vaut bien !
