the thing people don't understand about dog years is that it's about god. it's about the forced submission of living in a universe that seems intent to isolate you and torture you and drag you around, no matter how well you behave. about being betrayed by everything, everyone, your body, your self, until you lose the will to fight and just beg to be done. and you beg and you beg and you can't even have that.

it is also, obviously, an extremely sexual song. and this juxtaposition is meant to be uncomfortable. it's hot, and it's horrible. it's powerless, and not in a way that's enthusiastic or willing. it's about being owned by forces beyond your control. it's about being fucking trapped in your body, in your fate, and your only escape is euthanasia, whenever you might be lucky enough to have earned it. by being good enough. and you'll never be good enough.
