she’s always been known to be stuck in her own head — as far as she can remember , they used to always tell her she’s about as far out as the stars , & about as air-headed as they come. she never talked much , never had much to say. she kept to herself , wasn’t really interested in what the others were , & that perhaps might as well have been her saving grace but her kryptonite. she wasn’t interested in what the others were — they teach you individuality was a positive thing , that one should strive to be different , to create an everlasting legacy & she had. she had. she created children from her own soul , created light much brighter than the sun , much hotter than the sun , much better than the sun ( in her biased opinion. what mother wouldn’t acclaim their own ? ). she was very proud of her interstellar creations. very proud. & others whom she banked on , whom she loved as if they were her own loved her children , as well. they prayed to her children , & such voices didn’t go unnoticed. she answered. she paved paths for those seeking the north star’s guidance. she offered light in the night when the moon wouldn’t shine. she offered a home for those in the sky , a place of comfort , a place of retreat. & for a while , she was happy. she was content , she was loved. yet all things burn out , they fizzle , they lose their luster & glitter. some go out with a bang , one last beautiful farewell that meet the eye of everything around it. a beautiful nova , every child’s dream. & yet she doesn’t. she loses her light , her energy. she cannot fuze her thoughts together anymore. she cannot hear the sweet prayer of a child. she cannot see the soft colors of her children , she cannot see the brightness of the sun , nor the void of the sky. she cannot feel the heat of her children , nor the cooler air of the cloud within her womb. she cannot breathe. they always told her to find other interests , not to place all your eggs in one basket , or don’t put all your stars in the sky at once. she paid no heed. & so she kick , she yell , she claw at the darkness only to find nothing. she cannot speak , she cannot think , she cannot breathe — her lungs fill with the particles of her rotting children , the gases & dust of her failures , an all encompassing neutron of a star. she is naked , she is defenseless , she is forgotten.
