Chancellor Neighsay: "Honestly. I've enough to do maintaining Equestria's standards of education without dealing with insane ponies."

I've a feeling this joke is shortly going to be done to death (if it hasn't already), but I still couldn't resist.

On the off chance anyone viewing this missed the reference, Chancellor Neighsay is voiced by the venerable Maurice LeMarche, famously known (amongst hundreds of other roles) for voicing a certain hyper-intelligent mouse...

Gosh. Long time, no see, eh? Truth be told, I’ve been a little burnt out and needed some time to unplug lately. I haven’t even logged in to my Tumblr or DeviantArt accounts in well over a month.

It’s only by the slimmest of chances that I happened to take a glance at EqD for the first time in weeks and noticed that Season 8 had started this weekend.

I’ll say I enjoyed the opening episodes greatly. Though I can’t help but feel a bit of trepidation over the possibility they may be adding another six semi-regular characters to an already overloaded cast list. I guess we’ll just have to see how it goes...

My submission for the ATG prompt "Draw a pony at school".

Poor little AU Twily. Why would she want to be in school with a bunch of boring sea ponies when she could be at school with a bunch of neat books?

I’m sure there will be a bunch of people going for the “school” pun- especially with the new movie coming up and sea ponies on the brain.

I only hope that both doing the fish pun and playing the prompt completely straight simultaneously is at least somewhat unique and entertaining. ;)

Get Well Soon (ATG7 - Day 27)

Vinyl will never cease to annoy Octavia. Bon Bon will never leave Lyra to fend for herself. But it seems like the old Derpy/Carrot Top pairing has largely gone by the wayside.

I kind of miss it.

Is it a good omen that the exact moment I began inking Carrot Top, Beyond Her Garden started playing on the radio station I was listening to?

An Age Before Magic (ATG7 - Day 26)

Fluttershy: "Really? Choreography?"

Twilight: "I know! Can you imagine having to wait for somepony to plan a dance routine before your village can break into song?"

Snowboarding (ATG7 - Day 25)

My submission for the ATG prompt, "Draw a pony doing something you've never drawn before."

I definitely haven't done a pony snowboarding before now. I also haven't done anything in quite this style before.

The latter is something of a “happy accident”. I was messing around with layers as I was working on Scootaloo, getting ready to apply more detail on top of her base colors, and mistakenly turned off the outline layer.

The more I looked at how the flat bases looked against the softer background, the more it struck me as right for this piece. So I made a few adjustments to the colors to bring it more in line with her normal color palette and called it good.

Of course, it could just be my sense of aesthetics is completely shot from exhaustion and when I wake up in the morning I’ll realize that “happy accident” was more of a sad mistake... fingers crossed!

To See the Forest (ATG7 - Day 22)

Identifying, cataloguing, making note of observations; consulting books and charts; fiddling with the focus of your eyepiece to locate that one particular celestial object- this is the bread and butter of the avid astronomer.

Being able to recite a hundred facts about a single star or nebula, this is the joy of the academic.

Sometimes, though, you just need to leave all the equipment and references behind and remember what was so wonderful about the sky to begin with.

My submission for the ATG prompt "Draw a pony from or in the future."

Here we have a pony with her mind stuck in the future, another with her practical mind firmly grounded in the present and a third somewhere in n-th dimensional space where past and future are arbitrary constructs.

EDIT: I really struggled coming up with a title for this and ended up phoning it in with ”The Future is Here...?”. Then inspiration struck while I was lying in bed, so I got up and changed it.

Of course, apple bucking itself isn't AJ's talent so much as caring for her farm and family, but it's a part of it she's good at.
