it's just a visit, grandfather had said, nothing more. one where the leaders of their kind ( his and hers alike, though his more than theirs ) come to confirm the growth of the dhampir twins as their aunt had so foretold once so many years ago. she's been instructed to be polite as ever, more polite than ever, by each cullen. but politeness cannot be all it takes. bronzed curls flow around her with the wind, practiced smile tight as bambi-like optics stare upon one of the boogeyman of her childhood nightmares. her family had prepared her to be polite - but they had not been prepared for her curious nature to peak through.

hands ever linked even as they sway together on the porch swing, the message of boredom is sent with ease from her mind, chosen images sent in flickers : ( hair dye in uncle emmett's shampoo, elsa blue or firetruck red & braiding one of the wolves' fur and tying it with a pretty pink bow & a stray kitten she's seen in their wandering - fur matted and in desperate need of a petting ). shell pink lips hold small smile as she looks to @halflamb, eager for his input. ❝ mummy and daddy won't be back for hours. ❞

“ your granny renee made this for me, ” she traces the handmade quilt. pale, slender finger going over each little square. she moves the blanket closer to cover little renesmee, as if to shield her coldness from her, but still keeping somewhat close. bella always wonders what it would be like if her mom was here. in her new life. she'd probably freak out. she would hate to be surrounded by the cold. renee had always been … accepting. but vampires ? that was definitely hitting a limit. how to explain a fast-growing child was beyond bella. but she does miss her. alot. she wishes there could be a way. “ i'm sorry that you can't meet her, ness. ”

anxiety weights pitiless upon the vampire’s conscience, pulls down the heart to sink like a ship on waters still uncharted. alice treads carefully, she knows it — & she knows the child knows too: knows, feels, & wonders. the blame is strong, the guilt even stronger, oftentimes sabotaging the turned-into-habit courage. then there is something more, a sentiment different entirely: the need to be something better, someone braver — not a fool paralyzed by the what-ifs left unknown. renesmee is, after all, still only a child. a soul so pure, yet tarnished by scrutiny so undeserved; marked by choices not belonging to her from the youngest age. so alice tries her best TO BE WORTHY of her, as though repentance was a path still unsealed for a soul damned long ago. ❝ of course i did, ❞ she replies, gentle, before a telling silence can linger past the point of no return. words hang around idly, as though unable to fill the void left by alice’s aged faults; they leave the aftertaste not unlike that of an apology in her coarse throat, an insurmountable forever-guilt, a gaping wound stitches nor apologies won’t hold. ❝ i missed you everyday, ❞ but she misses her everyday still, even now as she lingers around: misses her like one misses a protege forlorn, swallowing worries for the girl’s FATE laid veiled in a pitch-black night. that, too is one of the remorses she shall carry until the day atonement comes. there’s a certain innocence of childhood that had been lost upon the dhampir. for how human children lose more than they remember of their formative years, memories flickering away to make room for other more important ones. renesmee’s have remained still, captured as though pages in a story book to be flipped through and shown to the world as she sees fit. she remembers waking to find the pixie-vampire gone ( her very own fairy godmother abandoning her in the night ).
she is just a girl, but her mother’s weeping upon that day cannot be forgotten. doe eyes have seen so little and yet know so much more than they ever should have. renesmee would have been more frightened of it all, were it not for the family that had stayed by her side through it all. a grudge only a child can hold so easily is held towards those who'd left, reasoning gained through experience lacking. the reasoning she carries with her only allows for more questions. ❝ I missed you everyday too. but you never called. why not ? papa charlie calls us. ❞
it's important to note, and it will be stated properly when my pages are up. but when I refer to bella and edward, I'm referring to @lovedlamb + @lovedlion. they are my exclusive bella and edward and my portrayal is heavily tied to them alongside her twin, @halflamb.
it's her first day at a new school, a real one - not granny esme's college prep courses, or uncle jasper's history lessons. one where she's been placed in a lecture hall of her own for the first time. charlie's a room over, she can hear the chiming of his heart beneath the pounding of all the others - a sound as familiar to her as her breath. dhampir is grateful for it, for how rarely she's ever been apart from him - preferring the comfort of fellow lamb by her side as they crawl among the wolves. it's safe, but distracting enough that she near stumbles over her reply to @poemsaid's question.

the storm rages on beyond the walls of the twins' room, rain pounding upon the exterior like drums she cannot escape. dhampir'd screamed loud enough to wake the house, were they so able, as she'd woken from the dream - canines now pulling at shell-pink lips with fright, doe eyes wet with tears that demand to be shed. charlie's still fast asleep, tiny hands once united torn away so that he might not suffer seeing those same dreams she's suffered through. but daddy's here now, daddy will protect her from the red hoods in the woods, so charlie doesn't need to. she shifts, more rag doll than girl, as she moves to his lap, the night terror and it's horrors refusing to leave her mind - returning each time eyelids close. ❝ promise you won't leave? ❞
