want.  edward  knows  want  like  an  old  friend  scorned.  nose  to  cheekbone,  the  same  pallor  despite  the  vast  sea  between  life and death  between  them.  he  is  not  capable  of  denying  bella  anything,  even  with  their  souls  on  the  line.  could  god  forgive  this  transgression ?  this  swan,  crafted  by  his  very  hands.  god  knew  what  he  was  doing,  sending  bella  into  his  orbit,  all  too  aware  of  his  kind's  irresistible  gravitational  pull.  edward  stalls  the  rise  and fall  of  his  own  chest,  faux-breath  nonexistent  when  their  lips  touch.  impossible  to  keep  it  so  chaste  or  gentlemanly,  the  click  of  their  kiss  beckons  more  out  of  both  of  them.  there’s  a  pained  sound  low  in  edward’s  chest,  simultaneously  in  warning  and undeniable  pleasure,  feline-like.  dark  brows  furrowed,  eyes  squeezed  tight,  he  kisses  fiercer,  devoutly  parting  her  lips  beneath  his.  (  i  want  you  to  kiss  me  i  want  you  to  kiss  me  i  want  you  to  kiss  me  )  —  siren  song,  more  enticing  than  clair  de  lune.  he  would  cry  if  he  was  not  dead.

𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐀𝐓𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐏𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄  𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐍  𝐁𝐎𝐓𝐇  𝐃𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐄𝐑        and  Bella  had  been  comfortable  since  day  one,  a   mutual  understanding   of  their  uniqueness  that  would   constantly   just  be  left  unspoken.  While  neither  of  them  had  directly  asked  about  the  other  ones   …   predicament,  each  of  them  understood  how  the  other  wasn’t  entirely  human.  That  there  was  something  just  a  little  bit  off,  and  for  them  that  worked  out  in  their  favor.  It  had  all  started  by  a   simple  interaction   between  Dex  and  Carlisle,  a   kindness  shared  between  medical  professionals   and  a  desire  to  learn. 

That  had  grown  to  him  being  intertwined  into  the  Cullen  family  somehow,  not  becoming  friends  with  all  of  them  but  he  had   grown  to  have  a  fondness   for  each  member.  His  heart  in  particular  had  grown  warm  towards  Bella,  who  was  the  newest  edition  to  the  family.  It  hadn’t  taken  him  long  to  figure  out  that  she  was  turning  down  his  offerings  of  tea  and  snacks   not  just   out  of  politeness,  and  had  decided  to  just  leave  it  at  that  for  now.  It  wasn’t  really  important  to  their  friendship  anyways.  Even  now,  as  he  carefully  sat  down  beside  her  in  the  home  he  was  renting  out  in  Forks  for  the  time  being,  he  didn’t  bother  to  bring  her  tea   ⸻   only  having  some  for  himself.

The  strong  smell  of  ginger  filled  the  living  area  as  Dexter  clutched  both  sides  of  the  mug  carefully  in  both  hands,  thumb   absently  tracing   along  the  patterns  of  the  rather  poorly  formed  ceramic.  A   tender  smile   split  along  thin  lips,  eyes  a  bit  downcast  out  of  habit.  To  anyone  else  it  might   seem   like  he  was  watching  the  tea  in  his  mug  swirl  and  ripple,  or  perhaps  seeing  through  it  and  off  somewhere  else   ⸻   but  he  hadn’t  had  working  eyesight  in   over  a  decade.  They  both  knew  that  well. 

He  was  a   little  shocked   by  Bella’s  admittance  to  being  tired,   especially   since  he  was  well  aware  she  wasn’t  physically  capable  of  such  a  thing   ⸻   but  mental  exhaustion  was  different,  and  it  was  a  sensation  he  was   all  too  familiar  with   himself.    ‘  It’s  nothing,  I’m  just  tired  ’     were  the  words  spoken  by  her,  and  he  found  himself  moving  a  hand  away  from  the  mug  to  give  a   tender  squeeze   to  her  knee.  A   familial   touch,  meant  to  be  nothing  more  than  an  attempt  at  comfort.    “  There  must  be  a  lot  on  your  mind  to  feel  so  tired,  ”     he  responded  just  as  gently,  taking  a  sip  of  the  ginger  tea  he  had  made  for  himself. 

Dexter’s  nose  wrinkled  a  little  bit  at  the  taste.  It  was  a  bit  strong  for  his  liking,  but  it  was   supposed   to  have  good  healing  properties   ⸻   and  while  he  wasn’t  a   full  believer   in  the  the  so  called  science  behind  teas  and  their  healing  properties,  he  would   always   be  searching  for  something  to  lessen  the  pain  behind  his  eyes  a  bit.  That  pressure  would  always  be  there.    “  What’s  on  your  mind,  kiddo?  How  can  I  help?  ”

ℰxhaustion.   tiredness.   words   that   are   not   at   all   in   the   vocabulary   of   a   vampire.   but   vampires   were   once   human,   too.   &   as   much   as   bella   has   changed,   there   was   still   something   so   human   about   her.   while   time   seem   to   stand   still   for   her,   bella's   heart   still   held   love   &   it   broke   even   worst   than   when   human.

charlie's   funeral   was   five   months   ago,   &   while   things   were   starting   to   go   back   to   normal   (   although,   nothing   really   was   normal   for   the   cullens   )     bella   still   felt   exhausted.   not   from   the   catch   up   she   has   to   do   in   her   personal   life.   she   knew   she   could   take   a   longer   break   from   teaching   at   the   university   if   she   so   wished.   the   work   had   been   a   great   distraction.   but   it   was   a   distraction.   not   a   solution   to   the   exhaustion.   the   pain.

a    smile   tugs   at   bella's   lips   as   she   looks   at   dexter.   ever   since   charlie's   passing,   she   seemed   to   take   note   of   the   signs   of   life   on   everyone.   the   smile   lines,   the   wrinkles   ...   once   she   used   to   fear,   but   now   she   wishes   to   treasure.   “       i'm   glad   you're   here,    ”    she   muttered.   avoidant,   as   always.   but   she   knew   dexter   would   know   what   was   up.   or   perhaps,   he   already   did.

it's a friday night, the pizza parlor has been bustling with high - energy patrons ever since they'd scored a booth near the back. wells is having a hard time keeping his hands off his face, constantly finding himself wanting to fiddle with the new steel studs adorning his brow. ❛ ❛ thanks for comin' out with me, bells. ❜ ❜ it's a moment of honesty & respite from this evening's back - and - forth banter, wells stirring his dr. pepper with a straw. ❛ ❛ i don't think i would'a been able to go on my own. how's your arm ? ❜ ❜ he asks sheepishly; having grabbed her a little too tightly when the needle went in.

𝒲aiting  for  her  slice  of  veggie  pizza  &  garlic  bread,  she  sips  on  her  diet  coke,  the  fizzy-ness  burning  her  throat  a  bit,  making  her  wince.  her  button  nose  scrunching.  she  pushes  it  aside  to  let  it  settle  for  a  bit,  returning  her  focus  to  her  friend  &  his  new  piercing.  it  accentuates  his  sharp,  chiseled  features. deep  down,  she  wished  she  had  gotten  something,  too.  a  nose  ring  like  angela.  or  jess,  with  her  belly  button  piercing.  but  she  finds  herself  too  plain  for  it.  maybe  even  just  an  ear-piercing  would  be  good  …  lately,  she  feels  she's  in  need  of  a  change.

he heard her before he saw her.

her hurried footsteps cut through the thick silence of the morning, breaking the stillness that enveloped him. jacob didn’t move immediately. he continued to hold his coffee mug in his hands, his gaze lost somewhere in the invisible forest ahead—but he already knew it was bella.

when she came into his line of vision, her shoulders were hunched inside her loose jacket, the fabric feeling heavier than it should around her. there was something fragile about her posture, but her gaze was steady—fixed on him. as if demanding an explanation. as if she were ready to rip it away by force.

jacob took a deep breath and ran a hand through his short hair, looking away for a moment, as if trying to find a way to tell the truth.

“i wasn’t ignoring you” he began, his voice low, husky, almost blending in with the soft creaking of the trees around them. “i… i couldn’t answer.”

he raised his eyes to meet hers. it was hard to pick up the phone when you're running through the forest with four giant paws and no hands.

𝒮he  had  been  desperate  to  hear  the  warmth  in  his  tone,  but  that  was  non-existent.  she  stands  there,  frown  deepening.  “   you  couldn't  ?  or  you  didn't  want  to  ?   ”    arms  are  folded  as  if  a  shield  to  protect  herself.  she  then  takes  note  of  the  short  hair  ...  somehow  he  looked  less  like  himself.  the  same  person,  yet  not  at  all.  he  was  hiding  something.  she  knew  that  at  least.  she  knows  what  it's  like  to  change.  to  become  a  past  of  your  former  self.   “    you  chopped  your  hair.    ”  the  cut  of  his  shirt  reveals  a  new  mark.  fresh  ink.     “    &  you  got  a  tattoo  ?   ”     she  almost  laughs  in  disbelief,  having  to  step  back.

“   what  ...  what  the  hell  is  going  on  ?  are  you  okay  ?  did  i  do  something  wrong  ?  i'm  your  friend,  you  can  tell  me  anything.  i'll  do  whatever  it  is  to  fix  it.      ”

𝒜  glare  is  sent  towards  charlie's  way.  bella  of  course  does  not  intend  for  it  to  be  malicious.  more  of  a  warning.  more  of  a  ‘please  be  nice’  look.  it  was  a  ‘meet  the  family’  type  of  dinner  that  evening,  at  the  cullens.  of  course,  they  already  knew  each  other,  but  with  the  recent  engagement  …  alice  went  overboard  with  the  hosting.  she  knew  it  wasn't  charlie's  thing.  it  was  rarely  her  thing,  too.  but  somehow  …  it  felt  nice  having  all  the  people  she  loved  in  one  room.  (  it  was  a  shame  that  renee  could  not  make  it,  but  she'll  have  time  to  get  to  know  them  .  )  “      dad,  they  might  hear  you.      ”  she  murmured,  nudging  him.     they  definitely  have.

before  edward  …  charlie  &  renee  at  bella's  kindergarten  graduation.  after  the  ceremony,  where  bella  tripped  &  fell  while  getting  her  certificate,  they  took  bella  to  an  all-you-can-eat  buffet.     bella,  at  that  age,  was  smart  enough  to  know  that  things  were  not  good  between  charlie  &  renee.  but  the  fact  that  they  attended  together  &  even  dined  together,  gave  her  a  semblance  of  peace.  content.  things  felt  simpler,  even  when  they  really  weren't.

after  meeting  edward  …   whenever  she  is  upset,  stressed -  her  mind  always  goes  back  to  that  little  meadow,  the  place  he  took  her  to  after  revealing  his  secret.  that  little  meadow  of  hers  is  her  idea  of  heaven  &  it's  where  she  realises  that  she  was  deeply  in  love  with  him.

ℬella  laughs  awkwardly.  she  was  nervous  around  jennifer  &  it  was  damn  obvious.  who  wasn't  ?   the  queen  bee  that  could  destroy  her  with  her  sharp  tongue.  but  so  far,  she'd  been  nice  to  her  during  science  …  maybe  because  she  did  most  of  the  pair  work.  “   i   hope  not,  or  else,  the  whole  school's  going  to  be  impregnated.   ”   a  very  bad  attempt  at  a  joke,  one  that  makes  her  want  to  curl  into  a  ball  &  die.
