Hugo’s colour palatte being the wolf’s visible colour spectrum, whether intentional or not, is such a sweet giveaway to the most intimate and tender part of him that wants to be seen despite outwardly denying the very same.

Towards the end of chapter 1, Hugo’s demon voices Hugo’s want for his suffering to be seen and acknowledged but simultaneously refusing to be vulnerable at all, and therefore denying himself a chance at comfort, a chance at being seen, being visible for his grief and pain and discomfort. He, ever so often, employs petty tactics to skilfully diverge a situation when it begins to unravel him, his theatrics become a prim and proper facade to keep up his aloof image. It gets to a point that even the proxies struggle to understand his innate nature as a person, and inevitably give up despite being close enough to him to know so much of his past.

Lycaon, naturally, is the sole exception. Hugo, with his blue clothes and gold accents is almost always seen completely by Lycaon. Intentionally or not, its his mismatched eye (that is often the first noticeable thing ab Hugo to an average person) what remains unseen to Lycaon <3

#lycahugo #op you put it into words so nicely it actually kind of made my heart squeeze #it's so ironic. for someone who loves running his mouth getting anything remotely vulnerable out of him is harder than pulling teeth #and yet he still does it albeit indirectly. this has been my interpretation of Hugo's design choice as well #and it definitely feels like something the character himself would do. that man is PETTY #and it works in his favor because how else will he hide just how tender his heart is ??#he craves to be really truly vulnerable but he would rather throw himself in a hollow than admit it with words
