lord of the rings really was lightning in a bottle. it shouldnât have worked but by god it did. peter jackson, who had no filmmaking education and was mostly known for making low budget splatter movies, had no business going out and changing the movie industry like that but he did. return of the king showed up at the oscars and became one of the most awarded movies of all time. to this day it holds the record for the highest clean sweep. hollywood will keep trying to recreate that magic with bigger budgets and high profile actors and they will keep failing. i look at the state of these blockbusters where everything is smoothed over by soulless cgi and actors are acting opposite tennis balls and they will never hold a candle to the pure heart and soul and craft of the lord of the rings. every single person involved in that project loved being part of it and it fucking shows. iâm so thankful the stars aligned the way they did for these movies to happen like that.

I hold the idea that women and (all genders) are just as capable of harm as cis men are because we are all flawed people, it's just that cis men have historically held more power and so they get away with harm more than women/ other genders. Thinking that women are less capable of harm makes me think that you don't see women as people, you know? It's the benevolent sexism stuff
video game and film fandoms will come and go for me but the Silmarillion fandom will never die. because that book came out like 50 years ago and we're all still trying to figure out what the hell is going on there.
Average Silmarillion fan:
One of the most annoying genres of people on the internet are people who act like they believe science is one single monolithic thing. Like, you'll see an article saying something like "scientists studying the movement of tectonic plates", and then in the comments there'll be several smug people saying "smh why are scientists doing this instead of finding a cure for cancer", like. Why would a geologist be doing that.
imagine if you hired a painter to paint your house and you tell them you want it blue and then you come back to see theyre in the middle of painting your house pink so you go hey stop. thats not what i asked for. and theyre like i just dont want to ruin your lovely house this color suits it so much better trust me. and you go No, i asked for blue give me blue??? and the painter is like alright alright. and then they paint your house purple and when you go this still isnt blue they say i simply cant paint your house blue. this is the compromise. and then you still have to pay them for their work even though you are now going to have to either hire another painter or just figure out how to paint ur own house to get it how you actually wanted. thatd be crazy right. so anyway i prefer to cut my own hair at home
using violence to liberate people from sweatshops, unsafe mines, and grinding poverty isn't the same as using violence to impose those things on people. the idea that violence is morally repugnant regardless of context is a belief that every oppressor throughout history would love for the oppressed to hold

For the twentieth anniversary of the BBCâs Robin Hood and the airing of its first episode on April 26th 2006, hereâs a link to my ranking of all thirty-nine episodes, from worst to best. (I actually wrote this last year, but then forgot to post it here).
It was the best of shows, it was the worst of shows, it was my very first fandom. For every affecting performance there was a creative decision that defied belief, for every complex ethical quagmire, there was a guy running around in camo pants. It features my favourite Marian, insane anachronisms, some of the best renditions of the Merry Men, truly bizarre plot twists, and the worst female character ever put to screen. Yeah, I said it. Â

A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowshipâŠbut it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down. But it is not this day! This day we fight!
