You begin to stir awake and with a jolt you sit up in your bed. All of the memories from last night flood your brain: David's glowing eyes, the argument with Isla, and the overwhelming panic that invaded you.
Your heart begins to rapidly beat in your chest as questions bounce inside your head. What do you do? What should you say? How are you going to fix this?
With a few deep breaths, you attempt to calm yourself and come up with a plan. Logically speaking, you were panicking last night, hard. So, there's a chance you might not have seen things correctly. However, is that a chance you really want to take?
If David is infected or 'taken over' by Gabriel, then there is a high chance that you and Isla could be killed. On the other hand, if David is not taken over by Gabriel, then you would seem like a major dick. Deciding it is better to be safe than sorry, you make an outline on how to go about questioning David.
First, you need a line of defense in case Gabriel realizes that you've figured it out. You look around the room you're in and see an oxygen torch. Under normal circumstances, oxygen torches would be used as a heat source; in this case, the oxygen torch is going to be used to burn Gabriel.
Secondly, you mull over what you should say to it. Outright accusing the thing won't do you any good, so you decide it's better to approach it with a question.
Grabbing the oxygen torch and taking a couple of deep breaths, you steady your heart.
Walking into the common room, you lay your eyes on David(?).
"Hey David…!" you say, hiding the oxygen torch in your back pocket. David stands up from his chair and turns to face you.
"Hello (Y/n), I hope you had a restful night," David says, smiling.
"It was okay…" you reply warily.
"Um, anyway, so, I wanted to ask you something. Last night you calmed me down pretty quickly, how did you do it?" Earlier, you decided that this was the best way to go about bringing up David's odd behavior without outright accusing him of anything.
"I'm afraid that's a secret, dear," you're not the least bit surprised when he says this; however, you do wish he'd just give you a straight answer.
"Are you sure? Because knowing how you did that could really help me in the future."
"I'm sure, dearie." Your attempt at getting an answer is completely squandered. But you suspected that he wasn't going to tell you anyway.
"Oh well, thank you anyway," with a heavy heart you begin to walk away, saddened that you didn't get any answers.
"Where are you going in such a rush?" You turn your head around to face David when you see it. There was an appendage from Gabriel sticking to David's neck. You weren't sure how you didn't see it before, but at least you see it now.
"Oh, to do my duties, you know, health equipment and stuff," you try to make up an excuse, knowing that it's probably better for you to leave than stick around and wait for him to try something.
"Try not to be too long, dear. I get bored without you." You see David visibly sulking, which almost makes you stop in your tracks. Why would Gabriel even do that? This deeply unsettles you. For once, you begin to think of what Gabriel's motives may be. You are aware that Gabriel could kill you and Isla in a heartbeat. So, what would be the reason for any manipulation? Just what was it playing at?
"Okay!" you say, quickly walking out of the common room.
Now that you are one hundred percent sure that David is, in fact, not David and that Gabriel has taken control of David, you panic, something that you have been doing a lot recently.
Your chest tightens, feeling like an elephant just sat on it. You try to calm yourself. At least you now know for sure. Poor David, though. You don't even think you can completely grasp the fact that he is gone. All of your memories with him, the good and bad, flood your mind. All that's left of David is an abomination, something that isn't truly him. Could you even bury him? You doubt you could with Gabriel attached to him.
After the panic has subsided, you feel something that you haven't in a while: an incomprehensible amount of rage. Why did this have to happen to you? Why must all of this stress be put on your shoulders? It's not fair; you didn't even want to come on this voyage. You love space, but you didn't want to be so far from Earth. You miss your ex, you miss your parents. They may have been hard on you, but you still love them. God, what are you going to tell Isla? How is she going to react to this information?
With a few deep breaths, you calm yourself and your thoughts. Panicking isn't going to do you any good. You need to go warn Isla; as much as you don't like the woman, you don't want her to die.
With newfound determination, you make your way toward Isla's station.
"Isla!" you call out, unsure of where she is.
"Isla, I know you might be mad at me, but I really need to talk to you!" You suspect that she might be upset from the last encounter you had with her, leading to her ignoring you. Slowly, you make your way to her quarters. Knocking, you wait for an answer, but none comes.
You weigh your options: you could either A) walk into Isla's quarters and face getting yelled at, or B) walk away and not warn her about Gabriel. Making up your mind, you put your pin into the door and walk in.
"Isla?" you say, seeing her staring at a wall.
"Isla…?" you say, scared. Usually, she would have yelled at you by now or said some sort of snarky remark, but instead, she is dead silent. You don't even hear her breathing. Isla turns towards you.
"Hm? Oh, hello (Y/n), it's great to see you." Odd, you don't even remember the last time she greeted you that nicely. If you're being honest, it's almost frightening.
"David is not David," you say, trying to get it out quickly.
"What do you mean?" Isla asks.
"I think Gabriel is somehow in David."
"Like he took control of David's body or something," you try to explain.
"I doubt that is what happened. I mean, how would something like that even be possible?" You furrow your eyebrows at her question.
"I literally saw one of Gabriel's appendages on David. Not to mention, we don't even know what's possible when it comes to Gabriel; he's an alien species."
"Are you sure you weren't just imagining things?" You huff at her comment; of course, you were sure, you would tell her otherwise.
"Isla, for once, could you just please believe me, please?" you beg for her to believe you, for her sake and yours.
"I'm sorry, (Y/n), this is just too ridiculous to believe. Now run along, (Y/n), David's waiting." Huh?
"What?" you ask. How could she possibly know that? Looking at her neck, you see one of Gabriel's appendages, just like what you saw on David. You feel a deep sense of uneasiness.
"…you're not Isla," you say, realizing you are completely and utterly alone. There is no more Isla, there is no more David. You are the last person alive in the White Sparrow.
"What do you mean?" Isla, or in this case, Gabriel, asks.
"Get out of Isla!" you scream, even though you know deep down that Isla is gone.
"(Y/n), don't be silly, nothing's in me. I am Isla," Gabriel says, stepping towards you, attempting to put a hand on your shoulder. You quickly flinch away and start making your way toward the door.
"Stay back!" you yell, taking the oxygen torch out of your pocket and pointing it towards Gabriel.
"Oh well, I guess this was going to happen inevitably," Gabriel says, stopping dead in its tracks.
"This body is disgusting anyway," Gabriel says with a sigh. You sprint out of the room, only turning to look back when you hear a squelching noise.
"Holy shit…" you say. The scene before you is horrific: Isla's body is on the floor, shaking violently as it becomes shriveled up. Every ounce of Isla's body, except for her skin, is sucked into a growing Gabriel, leaving a thin, flat skin suit of Isla on the floor. Oh god, is this what Gabriel is going to do to you? Is this what it did to David?
You turn your head away and run toward your quarters.
Sitting down on your bed, you begin to cry as an overwhelming amount of confusion, sadness, and panic finally hits you. Your head is pounding; it hurts so insanely bad. All you can do is hold it. Your eyes feel like they're going to fall out of your skull from the amount of pressure being pushed on them. You're hyperventilating so much you think you're going to puke.
You can't even think right now—everything is just too much. All you can do is sit there and rock yourself back and forth, hugging the oxygen torch close to you.
You hear a knock at your door. Flinching, you try to quiet your sobs.
"(Y/n), I know you're in there. Please let me explain," an unrecognizable voice says. It's too smooth to be David's but too masculine to be Isla's. You know no one is coming to save you, so it can't be a rescue team. That leaves one thing left.
"Gabriel…?" you manage to utter out. How is this even possible? How can it speak? If one was in Isla and one was in David, then what is this? How are there two of them? You feel your headache grow increasingly worse.
"(Y/n), dear, open the door, please."
You wish your parents were here right now to tell you what to do, to provide you with security. You wish you never went on this stupid voyage. You wish you never became an astronaut. You wish your ex never died. You wish that Gabriel was never found. Hell, you wish that the planet Grannus was never discovered. Poor David, poor Isla, they didn't deserve this. They won't even be put to rest; the way they died was so unnatural, so horrific. They didn't deserve this.
If only you could have done something, something to fix this. Something to change the outcome of what happened.
"Dear, if you don't let me in, I'm going to break the door." What do you do?

Waking up, you deeply stretch your limbs. With a yawn, you get up and get ready for the day. Walking into the common room, you first notice that David isn't there—weird, David is usually the first one up and eating breakfast. Shrugging, you walk toward the capsule.
The first thing you notice is that the door is wide open. Alarm bells go off in your head. You are 100% sure that you locked the door the last time you were in there; you even triple-checked the door just to make sure. With a shaky step, you make your way into the capsule.
Gabriel isn't in the enclosure.
You feel your heart rate quicken as you glance around the room.
Gabriel isn't in the room.
You feel your breathing quicken as you start panicking an insurmountable amount of dread consumes you. There is a carnivorous alien that can hypnotize people loose on the ship.
As quickly as you can, you run out of the capsule to go find either David or Isla.
After a brief search, you find David staring at a wall in the pilot's quarters his back turned toward you.
"David, it's gone!"
"What do I do?" you ask, still not getting a response from him. David is just sitting there completely motionless.
"Hello?" you call out, walking closer to David.
"David, I'm about to start really freaking out. Please say something!" You can feel your chest tighten every passing second that David doesn’t answer.
"David?" you ask. It is very out of character for David to be quiet on a regular day, so it's even weirder for him to be quiet while you're asking him questions.
"Are you okay?" You start to feel extremely concerned.
"My apologies… (Y/n), I feel fine," David says, finally turning to look at you. You flinch at his use of your name. Within the year that you have known him, you have only ever heard him use your name once. However, just hearing his voice clams you down.
"Um, okay. What do you think we should do though?" you ask, deciding it's better to focus on how Gabriel is gone rather than David's strange behavior.
"What should we do about what?"
"What we should do about Gabriel being loose on the ship—did you not hear anything I was saying?" you say, scoffing. Realizing that what you said was probably mean, you quickly apologize.
"Sorry, that came out rude," you say, looking at your feet.
"It's quite alright, (Y/n). I do suppose that I was not listening. Although, I do ask that you do not speak to me in such a way." First off, odd language. You don't ever recall David saying anything like that to you before, much less in that way. Second off, you have definitely said worse stuff to him before, and he has never responded like that.
"Nevertheless, I do suppose that we attempt to find Gabriel. Who knows what he might be doing as of now," David says, standing up and walking towards the door. Nodding your head, you follow him.
"Okay… but we should probably find Isla first."
Both you and David walk out of the pilot's quarters to the opposite side of the station. You find Isla in her workplace fixing something.
"Hey Isla—" you start to say, attempting to greet her.
"What do you want?" Isla rudely questions, interrupting you.
"Oh, well I guess I'll just go fuck myself then." You say grinding your teeth. You have been so stressed out ever since you woke up, so if she was going to treat you like this, then you weren't going to entertain her.
"Isla dearest, something has happened in the ship. The creature is out of its cage." Seeing that you were done talking to Isla, David began to explain what happened.
Isla turns to you, her face curled up in an ugly snarl.
"What?! How could you let this happen, you incompetent little shit!" Isla screams at you.
"I locked the capsule last night—hell—I even checked the cameras before I left! I have no idea how Gabriel got out!" you say. Even if you don't want to entertain her, you still want to defend yourself.
"Well, that thing is out now, so go fix your problem before I have to do something!" Isla says, getting closer to your face.
"Dude, it could literally be anywhere in this station. Could you please just help us find it?" you say, asking her for even the tiniest bit of help.
"No, this is your freaky little science experiment. You go find it on your own." Isla says while shoving you. She has a fair point, but still, since it is out of the capsule, it's now everyone's problem.
"You literally know the layout of this place better than anyone else. Can you *please* just help us or at least contact the nearest space station?" Even if you don't like Isla, you do have to admit that she is extremely knowledgeable.
"Contacting the space station will do little to help us in this situation, I presume, and if Isla is so set on not helping, then we should not make her," David says, butting into the conversation in hopes of ending it.
"But—" you begin, trying to argue.
"Let us leave her be," David says, grabbing your arm and walking away. You don't move and instead try to pry his hand off your arm.
"Come along now, (Y/n). We have much work to do." David moves his hand from your arm and instead wraps his arm around your shoulder, leading you away from a glaring Isla.
Once in the hallway, you begin to air out your frustration to David.
"She's such a bitch! How can she be so bitter?" You cannot wrap your head around Isla's attitude even if you tried.
"I don't understand how she could be so mean when I've literally done nothing to her. And the fact that she won't help, I just—" you say, working yourself up again.
"(Y/n) dear, please calm down. Being frustrated will not help us do the task at hand," David says, seeing your agitation.
"I've been meaning to ask you, why are you talking like that?" Now that you and he are finally alone, you question his odd choice of words.
"Like what, dear?"
"I don't know, like really proper, I guess."
"Would it not be more prudent for us to concentrate on securing the space station rather than discussing my choice of words?" It feels like he busted out a dictionary to say that sentence.
"Uh—okay. Well, um, what side do you want to take first?"
"I will take the right side of the station. I would rather not have you around Isla for the time being."
"Okay, please tell me if you see Gabriel anywhere though." You and David walk your opposite ways.
The White Sparrow, your space station, is made up of 11 different sections which can be split up into either the right side or the left side. On the right, there is the technician's room, storage, security, cargo, and command. In the dead center is the common room which holds the escape pods. To the left are the pilot's quarters, research facility, viewing deck, medical facility, and the capsule.
After walking through each room and locking every door and setting the alarms, you make your way over to where David is.
"Is everything on lockdown?" you ask.
"Yes." You and David begin walking.
"Great, are you in the mood to see Isla one more time before bed? Because I know I'm not." You have to let Isla know that each of the doors has an alarm on them, so she can put her passcode in.
"I believe that the conversation you are about to have with her will likely be considerably less distressing than the one that occurred earlier," David says in what you think is an attempt to cheer you up.
"What makes you think that? Because she makes me want to rip my hair out whenever I speak to her," you say, giving a chuckle after.
"I may have had a little chat with her while I was locking the station." That's definitely not concerning at all! You look over at David's face.
"Oh my god, what did you say to her?" you ask, hoping that David didn't just embarrass you.
"Nothing much," David says, shrugging.
You and David are now right in front of where Isla is. With a deep breath in, you put your passcode in and open the door.
"Hey Isla," you say in a not-so-cheery tone.
"Hey, David, can you please leave for a second? I want to discuss a few things with (Y/n)." Before anything else even leaves her mouth, you know whatever she has to say to you next is gonna be some bullshit.
"Sure," David answers, walking out the door and shutting it.
"You fucking whore—" You genuinely are taken aback by that.
"Whoa, where did that come from?" you ask, legitimately shocked.
"You know exactly where it's coming from. First, you act all buddy-buddy with David, then you come in here acting like you did nothing wrong. As if you didn't tell him to say that to me.
"What are you talking about? I don't even know what he said?"
"You're pathetic. You knew since we were training together that I liked David, yet you still went after him. No wonder your ex killed himself. You probably tried cheating on him, you attention whore." About a year ago, you and Isla trained together in some sort of astronaut camp. There, you guys were inseparable, constantly doing things together. She was your best friend, so you trusted her, and one day you vented to her about what happened in your past.
That turned out to be a huge mistake. One day she told you about her crush, David. So, you being the good friend you were, attempted to be a matchmaker. Long story short, you got David to talk to Isla, and Isla got the wrong idea and somehow thought you were trying to 'steal her crush away'. So, she told David that your ex killed themselves and that you were cursed and that if he loved you, then he would die too. She then stopped talking to you and treated you like shit, all over a misconception.
"What...? Is that really the reason you have been treating me so poorly? Well, newsflash: I never liked David. I've never seen him as more than a friend, so for you to say that, for you to bring up my ex..." you say, your breathing quickening and tears welling up in your eyes.
"How could you...?" you ask, taking a shaky step back.
"Forget this, I'm leaving. I'll go contact the station myself." Turning away from her, you hold yourself, rushing out of the room. At this point, you are now full-on sobbing.
"Oh dear, what happened?" David asks, seeing that you were in extreme distress.
"She—! She..." you try to get out. Your heart felt like it was beating out of your chest; you were hyperventilating. Your throat felt so tight as if someone was trying to strangle you.
"You need to calm down. (Y/n) dear, please look me in the eye." Just barely hearing him, you look David in the eye. Even with your vision all blurry, you could see the white glow coming from his eyes. You've seen this glow before.
"Gabriel...?" you feel your head get extremely fuzzy and you pass out.

“Data log: entry number 3,
I will now begin to conduct different tests on this creature. First, I will attempt to feed it plants." You take hold of the tongs to your right and tear a piece of kale off. Slowly you begin to lift the glass covering of the creature's enclosure. Placing the kale into its space, you begin to observe any movements that the creature makes.
"The creature seemed to be indifferent toward the plant, I will now begin testing live feeding." You glance over to the mouse that you have.
"Sorry mouse, your death won't be in vain." You gently lift the mouse from its tank and place it with the creature, quickly shutting the lid. With a curious glint in your eyes, you begin to observe its eating habits.
The first thing you notice is how the creature seems to open up—as if it's blooming. Slowly the appendages sprouting from the center wrap around the mouse, each movement slow and meticulous. Once the appendage is completely wrapped around the middle of the mouse, the creature fully blossoms. White glowing ethereal light floods your vision and as if you were in a trance, you cannot look away. The mouse squeals as its body is being melted. With no blood being congealed, everything flows from the mouse into the center of the creature's flower. A buzzing feeling takes over your mind, and you are completely unable to think. All you can do now is just observe.
The mouse is no longer struggling; it's become paralyzed. You feel like the mouse, trapped in your own head, unable to move or make a sound. Strangely, you don't feel any panic; your will to fight is completely taken over. It was only when the creature finished that you came back to your senses. Thank god for the camera recording.
Turning toward your monitor, you watch the video of the feeding. After taking down notes, you proceed to finish your data log, shaking a little as you do.
"The closed lily shape on the creature opens to what seems to be a flower shape. Each of the 'petals' on the creature has razor-sharp, shark-like teeth. On the end of each 'petal' there are hooked teeth that attach to its prey. The center of the flower has a circle of teeth with a glowing center. In fact, it seems as though there is a smaller flower inside of the middle containing a glowing—almost blinding—light. I have deduced that this light may have hypnotic abilities. When feeding, the creature seems to completely wrap around its prey, secreting paralytic venom and venom that completely melts the prey. The creature then sucks the blood and meat from the prey like a vacuum." Ending your data log, you turn towards the creature, It’s completely closed now.
"…" You have no idea how to feel about this. It's amazing what the capabilities of the creature are; however, the hypnosis poses a serious threat. Deciding to stop thinking about it, you walk out of the capsule, triple-checking the locks.
Walking into the common area, you spot David. Quickly running up to him you began to excitingly tell him your discoveries.
"Oh my God, David, that creature is insane. I mean, the way it feeds on animals, holy shit. It literally melts flesh, do you know how crazy that is?? I also am beginning to believe it can hypnotize—"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down. What do you mean by melt flesh?" David, extremely concerned, cuts your insane rambling short with a very valid question.
"Is that thing even safe to have on board?" He seems to be full of valid questions actually.
"It's literally sealed; we'll be fine. Anyway, to answer your question, it literally made it so that the mouse couldn't congeal its own blood. It effectively just turned the mouse into soup." David gives you the craziest look in existence. If he were to strain his eye any more to the side, you think it would go to the back of his head.
"Um…" David says, scrunching his eyebrows even further.
"Cool, right?" you reply with a goofy smile planted on your face.
"If by cool you mean terrifying, then yes, very cool," David says, giving a nervous laugh.
"What are you two talking about?" Whipping your head over, you see Isla walking into the common room, giving you a scrutinizing look.
"Our Researcher made some new discoveries on the resident alien." Poor, sweet David is the one who has to speak up to the witch.
"Gross, please refrain from talking about that thing in my vicinity," Isla says, then walks out of the shared common room, bumping into your shoulder while doing so.
"Who pissed in her cereal?" you mutter before turning back to face David.
"So, are ya gonna name it?" David asks, giving you a curious look. You've thought about naming it before because saying the word 'creature' over and over again has been getting old. So, you already have a pretty good namein mind.
"Yeah, I was thinking about the name Gabriel." The main reason for this was how the creature looked; its white glowing light and flowing beauty gave it the attributes of an angel. So, it was only right that you named it after one.
"Odd name for an alien space thing, but okay," David says, getting up from his seat.
"Anyway, I'm going to go hit the hay. See ya later, girly." David turns and walks to his part of the living quarters.
"Goodnight, David," you yell out.
You make your way into your living quarters placing your recording device on your bedside table. Slowly you began to drift off into sleep.
You awake in a panic, loud alarms pierce your eardrums. Quickly you cover your ears.
"What's going on…" you say, not even being able to hear yourself over the alarms. Hell, you can't even hear your own thoughts over the alarms. In a hurry, you rush over to the capsule; you have a suspicion that's where the alarms originated from.
"What happened?" You yell over the alarms. To your right, you see Isla disabling them with David right next to her. The tank that held Gabriel looks wrong, almost.
"I have no idea. I walked in here to see Isla tampering with things," David replies after helping Isla shut off the alarm system.
"Isla, what did you do?" you ask, not trying to sound accusatory.
"I… I don't know. All I remember is that I was walking around the station until I saw that thing. There was blinding white light and now I'm here." You feel bad for her; the hypnosis that Gabriel can induce is no joke. You give her an empathetic look.
"When I walked in here, she looked pretty out of it, almost like a zombie," David says, backing up her words.
"I knew this could happen, but I never thought it could be this strong…"
"What?" David says, eyeing you.
"Remember last night when we were talking about how Gabriel feeds?"
"You named it??" Isla loudly exclaims, looking disgusted.
"Yeah," David replies to you, ignoring Isla's words.
"Gabriel is able to hypnotize its prey," you try to explain.
"You mean it was trying to eat Isla?" David asks, looking horrified. Gabriel trying to hypnotize Isla for food is probably not the best conclusion, but it could be one.
"Maybe," you reply.
"Maybe?? Fucking maybe?? My life could be in jeopardy and all you can muster up is a maybe?" Isla says, screaming at you, getting closer to your face.
"Isla, none of us know anything about Gabriel—" you try to explain.
"Stop fucking calling that thing Gabriel!" Isla spits out, shoving you as she does so. Regaining your composure, you try to explain to Isla that eating her was most likely not the reason.
"None of us know anything about it. So, there could be a chance that it wasn't trying to eat you but rather trying to escape. Look, you are much larger than Gabriel, so most likely it won't see you as prey." At this point, your breathing is heavy and your fists are balled.
"So let's just calm down and get you checked up," you say with a strained smile, trying your best to keep a calm demeanor.
"I don't need to be checked up on by someone like you." Isla walks out of the room, once again bumping into your shoulder—it seems to be a new favorite thing for her to do.
Okay.
Ouch.
For once in a very long time, Isla's comment dug deep. You took immense pride in your schooling and your ability to help, so for her to just blatantly tell you she doesn't want your help actually made you feel some type of way.
You shake your head, now that she’s gone you can check up on Gabriel.
"You probably want to leave and lock the door while I'm doing this," you tell David. He nods, walks out of the room, making sure to shut and lock the door.
Walking over to Gabriel's enclosure, you see that the lid is slightly off. When Isla was under the trance, she must have opened the lid before snapping out of it when the alarms turned on. You take a mouse out of its tank to test whether or not Gabriel is hurt.
The mouse goes up to Gabriel, nudging it a little before wandering around the enclosure. Something must be wrong. You take a long probe tool and poke at one of Gabriel's appendages; nothing happens. You deduce that the high concentration of oxygen in the air must have shocked Gabriel's senses. Before, when you were feeding him in a controlled environment, you made sure that the air and pressure were as close as possible to how it would be on Grannus. That was not the case when Isla opened the glass.
With your head lying low, you continue to observe Gabriel. Suddenly, Gabriel begins to move. One of the appendages on it curls ever so slightly, as if Gabriel is beckoning you to come closer. And closer you go.
With your face pressed up against the glass, you watch the flower structure on Gabriel open once again. Quickly, you look away. Seemingly annoyed by this, Gabriel hits one of its appendages against the glass. Jumping a little, you turn your head away and leave the capsule.
Triple-checking the locks, you move towards your monitor. You watch as a feed of Gabriel is displayed. Honestly, you feel really bad for Gabriel; the poor thing didn't ask to be tested on or to be in a glass box. Deciding to turn off the feed, you head back to your room.
This was your first mistake.
David got a little too curious and decided to check out Gabriel on his own. Seeing that you were asleep, he crept into the capsule. Immediately, he turned his head to Gabriel. The flower on it was closed, so David didn't feel threatened. However, that quickly changed. The flower opened with such rapidness that David couldn't do anything to fight off the hypnosis. It was over.
Earlier that night, when David and Isla were turning off the alarm system, it caused it to stop working. So, there was nothing to pull David back out.
With a reaching hand, David slowly pulled the glass casing off. Shakily, David's hand scooped up Gabriel, bringing Gabriel right up to his face. Gabriel's appendages wrapped around David's wrist and hand. Gradually, an appendage reached for David's neck. Wrapping around David's neck, Gabriel crawled up until it was attached to the back of David's head. Gabriel then sunk every single one of its teeth into David.
David could feel his consciousness fading away. He was no longer himself; every thought, dream, or aspiration he ever had melted away. All David was now was a host, a puppet for Gabriel.
The only feature of Gabriel you didn't catch was how he had the ability to take control over a host. When Gabriel sunk his teeth into David, he released enough venom to completely melt David's brain, effectively taking David over.

“Datalog: entry number 1
Our team of astronauts has finally made it near the orbit of Grannus. Hopefully, the capsule containing the samples taken from Grannus arrives soon. I have a feeling that—" Just as you were about to end your data entry, your favorite person on board interjects.
"Hey, whatcha doing?" You turn around, jumping a little while doing so.
"Oh hey, David! You scared me." David is one of the two people you are currently stationed with inside of the White Sparrow, working as a pilot. He is the only person on this ship you actually enjoy having a conversation with, which isn't saying much, but you really do appreciate having him near you.
"My bad, girly," David replies with a disingenuous tone, laughing a little while he says it. This is one of the reasons why you absolutely love having him around; he always makes you laugh even if it's at the expense of you being teased—which it often is. Not to mention, David is a gorgeous man. You don't feel any attraction to him, but you can admit that he is beautiful. David is a brunette with brown eyes, tan skin, and huge muscles. And by huge muscles, you mean HUGE muscles; seriously, you've seen the man pick up 300 pounds of equipment like it's nothing.
"What's with the new addition of data logs?" David releases his hold from your shoulder, giving you a curious look.
"I want to document everything about this trip, seeing as we could make a huge scientific breakthrough."
"Understandable, however, don't you think you could use other methods of documenting like, um, I don't know, typing on a computer?" With a curious look shifting to an awkward one, David rubs the back of his neck.
"I mean, I have no issue with the data logs, it's just that if the wicked witch of the west heard that, she would flip her shit," he says, trying to explain his last statement.
"Wicked witch of the west? You mean Isla?" Isla was the other person on the ship, working as the technician. Both of you disliked her; however, David disliked her much less than you. It's not like you hated the woman—in fact, you respected her—it's just that she would often belittle you for your attitude (she hated everyone with a positive outlook on life). She was the kind of person to go out of her way and look for any reason to yell at you. You could literally just be sitting there, and she would pull something out of thin air to throw at your face.
"Yes, as if that wasn't obvious already."
"Bro, you can't say that! What if she hears you? I don't wanna be turned into a frog because of your dumbness!"
“Im too pretty to be a frog” you hear David mutter.
"You're so full of yourself," you huff, rolling your eyes.
"Anyway, we should probably get to working before she gets on us." Sighing, David begins to make his way out of the living quarters and into his stationed area.
"Right." You follow him until you inevitably part ways, you going to the medical/research side of the space station and David going to the control room.
It's only 20 minutes later when you hear the devil herself start to lose her temper with you.
"What do you think you're doing!" Isla loudly exclaims. You literally were not doing anything; in fact, you were just passing through her station.
"Nothing."
"If it's nothing, then why do I see you tampering with my things?" You're starting to believe this woman is actually delusional.
"What are you talking about?"
"I can very clearly see you destroying my things," she says with an attitude as if you just dropped a bomb on her work station.
"I literally have not touched anything," giving her a dumbfounded look, you turn to start making your way back to your station.
"Whatever, just leave. If I find out that any of my things are missing, I'm reporting you." Did she literally just tell you to leave even though you were already doing so? Did she actually just accuse you of stealing her things? What is her problem?
"Whatever you say, man." Not wanting to pick a fight, you quicken your pace and make your leave. Despite Isla's horrible personality and overall attitude, she was a very beautiful woman. Isla is a thin, tall brunette with striking blue eyes. She has tan skin and an award-winning smile.
While leaving, you catch a look at one of Isla's monitors. It shows a red blinking dot rapidly approaching the station. You see her turn and give you a look as if you caused it. You were about to question what it was, but you quickly didn't. You already know questioning her won't do you any good, so you go to David. David explains that it's the capsule you and your team have been trying to get your hands on for the past 2 months.
"Datalog: entry number 2
According to our radars, the capsule is headed off track and is rapidly heading towards our location. Isla is currently getting the space station ready to accommodate the capsule." Ending the data log, you look over to Isla's annoyed face. She clearly didn't enjoy you having data logs, but she will just have to deal with it. Slowly, the capsule docks at the end of the space station, locking in place and securing itself on board.
"Great work out there, Isla!" you exclaim, giving her a thumbs up. Isla just stared at you with a bored expression.
"…" You sat there for a good ten seconds waiting for any type of response from Isla, just to get nothing.
"Fantastic job out there, Isla! I knew we could count on you!" David shouts while walking through the door.
"Thank you, David." Wooowwwwww, she really told him thank you even though you basically said the same thing. It's obvious who the favorite is.
Making your way up to the capsule, you begin to unlatch the door. Stepping through the capsule, you look around at the samples the robot on Grannus collected.
"What do we have here?" you say, paying close attention to a certain glass box. It looked like it was moving.
"No fucking way! Oh my god! No fucking way!!!" You shout, running towards the box, missing the nasty look Isla was giving you.
"What is that thing?" Isla says, sounding absolutely disgusted.
"I have no idea," you answer, feeling as though you were on cloud nine. You quickly begin to pick the box up and set it on a table that didn't have anything else on it. The creature in the box was not like anything you have ever seen before. In the middle of its body (?) there seemed to be a closed lily-looking shape that was white. Going out from the middle of the creature, there were four central appendages, all reaching a span of about 21 centimeters. Connecting those appendages was an almost translucent film of cloth-like membrane. In fact, all of the creature seemed to be made of cloth.
"Should we contact the people back on Earth?" you question.
"Yeah, but the signal won't reach them for another 2 weeks," David answered after not speaking for a while.
"I'll get to that right now because whatever that thing is freaks me out," Isla says, walking out of the capsule looking as though she was going to puke.
"Your loss," you mutter.
