Reconnect | Loki & Thor
Thor was like a dog with a bone, as usual. But Loki had outlasted his stubbornness before, and could yet again if he had to. It just wasn’t easy. His eyes wandered across the polished wood grain of the table where it showed through the piles of books, skittering across Thor’s hands and the dish of offered food, almost opening to his brother’s warmth but fixing determinedly on worn spines and foxed pages. He couldn’t bear to let Thor get the better of him so easily. Even so, the familiarity of punishing his brother for some inconsiderate remark or unseen exclusion was more comfortable than the wild and vicious turns his thoughts had taken of late, left to stew in their own black ichor.
This was, he supposed, a welcome break from being locked inside himself in a personal prison of grief and hate. He would take this respite Thor offered, if not the food. Giving him that satisfaction would be too much. But his presence helped, even though Loki would not say it was so. He had too few anchors in the world, too few for whom to keep from tearing the world down around them. He was all pain and wrath—only in times like these did it seem real that he had ever been anything else. He grunted non-committally, turning a page he’d read a dozen times over and absorbed next to zero meaning.

Thor can see his brother fixate on not paying him attention, and that hurts, but he perseveres. He has nothing on his schedule besides petty personal dalliances. He wonders what it would take to get into his brother's good graces yet again. He is hopeful, though. Given time, Loki will bounce back. One cannot grieve forever.
When Loki speaks back to him in Norwegian, his heart soars. It's a small victory, but not unwelcome. He hangs onto that hope which tells him his brother's humanity and sanity are still in there. «There was a time when you were not in the habit of attacking me with lies.» He shakes his head, and wonders what torments are hurting his brother now. He just wants Loki to be healthy, happy, and not in trouble. He doubts a direct question will get him the answers he wants, but he considers it might be helpful. At the very least it might help repair their relationship. «Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?»
You don't even want to be saved
"Thor, you brutish oaf," he chided warmly, "Take care with your words, lest you give insult." He spread his palms as if he could possibly be considered an open book by any stretch of the imagination. "You presume the existence of an objective moral code, or you seek to impose your quite subjective one onto me. My perspective being different does not make it wrong." He gave a patronizing smile, though it quickly soured. "Regardless. Yes, of course, you’re so quick to dismiss that which does not affect you,” he replied testily, “You expected that I would always be at your side. Now you want to ‘save’ me from having the agency to choose my own course?”
"Fear not, brother; I have not gone and given into Christian inanities." Their word games and rhetorical contests were not a new phenomenon, and perhaps Thor took a bit of comfort in it, though he didn't quite smile. "I'm merely using the common morals we were raised upon, the ways of the old gods." He moves forward to take Loki's hands. "Never did I expect you to be in my shadow, as you have accused. There are an infinite number of ways to not be in my shadow, and yet not go down a road that leads to but darkness."

"What’s a little risk? You’ve never shied away from challenges yourself; why should I?" He smirks, and it’s plain he’s playing games, but then he was not an easy person to engage in seriousness. And yet, for a moment he grows quiet, voice softening as he broke the silence anew. "Did you truly believe… our paths would run parallel?"
"Risk is one thing; immorality quite another." Thor is not interested in gaming with Loki. Loki is always playing, and not in the oft-inane political way, but in a way that could end up with serious consequences. "Regardless of birth, we grew up together. Parallel paths never meet. I just didn't know our angle would be so obtuse."
Meeting for Coffee (University AU)
The same waiter had brought her coffee as she felt her head shake. He was too charming, always having so much sex. She was lucky if she could even someone to notice that she had done her makeup to look nice. “You be careful, you hear?” she sighed before wanting to bang her head on the table. “It’s alright… Stressful. Easy, but lots of work. Too much studying.”
Thor could feel Sif's disapproval, but that wasn't going to stop him. "I'm always careful." Not strictly true, but close enough. "Anyways, I just went through an actual breakup, so I deserve to have some fun."
He frowns sympathetically at Sif's problem. "You must be taking the wrong classes."
