Why I ripped up $1 million

What does $1 million represent? Maybe it’s a dream home or comfortable retirement. It could be a sign that you’ve made it. Or it represents the unattainable. I'm not being biased...much, but while it does grab attention with the headline "Why I ripped up $1 million" and the cool looking glass ball filled with shredded notes the KLF did it better.

Moneyball, my latest artwork, is my attempt to give money a new value through destroying its conventional meaning.

The problem with that statement is that all credibility (I believe) the artwork had was lost when I read

Admittedly, when the KLF burned a million pounds is was a bit of a slapdash affair and if they had a clear plan it wasn't really reported.

But they did actually burn 1 million pounds of legal currency, their own money, they took it straight out of the bank, still wrapped in its banding and plastic wrap and burnt it.

It might not have been their intention to make a similar statement as Alberto Echegaray Guevara, I forget how many years are left on the 23 year contract Bill and Jimmy made to not discuss it and we may never know any more than we do now.

But as art it is up to us to interpret, especially one that makes a statement, I like my statements to be based on something real and not pretend.
