[ he’s tracked people down before . he will do it again , without hesitation . ]

"... Felix was at Zoraxis for that long?"

[A soft sigh, but he looks once more at the blond.]

"Any leads?"

“ he was a child . still is . it’s highly likely he was lied to . ”

[ baskerville shakes his head . zoraxis . . . what he wouldn’t give to find that engineer and — , ]

“ i’ve got a scent , but i can’t guarantee how long i’ll be able to track it . ”

[ felix . . . mm . he hadn’t known the kid for long , sure — but perhaps some long-buried part of him felt a fatherly need to protect him . ]

“ if i can even get out of the agency , that is . ”

"Of course. I'm not going to blame a child for being a part of an evil organization."

[He nods his head, tapping his cane against the ground.]

"I'll get permission. Don't worry about that. I'll be quick. You keep the scent."

“ aye . ”

[ keep the scent . . . a simple enough task . but he hasn’t done a mission in so long . let alone rescued anyone . . . mm . baskerville decides that he trusts mason on this . ]

“ we don’t have much time . we need to get going now . ”

"... ah, to hell with it. There's no time to get permission. I'll take the fall if anything happens."

[He rests a hand on Baskerville's shoulder.]

"Let's go."

[ the hand on his shoulder . a flicker of fondness passes through baskerville’s eyes , before he nods , determined . in an instant , he’s down to the ground — evidently shifting into his wolf form — fluffy ears perked forwards and nose to the floor . and off he trots . ]

[ And Mason trails behind him, minimizing the use of his cane to keep up.

He's always been impressed with Baskerville. He happy to work with him again. ]

[Outside, it's raining heavily. The smell of rain is quite strong.]

[ rain . . . often denoted as a hound’s worst enemy when tracking . but quite the opposite . merely a hindrance . ]

[ felix’s scent fades into another one . baskerville’s body tenses . in an instant , the hound is taking off — following after that smell . the one he’d found on phoenix shortly after they’d returned from being kidnapped . . . it’s the same thing juniper used to put them asleep . except now , it’s been used for felix . ]

[ away he goes . ]

[The trail led through the traffic of the city, winding left and right on the streets.]

[ that’s the only thing on his mind . he knew zoraxis wouldn’t hesitate to stoop so low , but felix was a child . he needs to . . . he couldn’t save her . but maybe he can save felix . ]

[ sharp turns and corners are nearly missed , not even bothering to check if mason is still behind him . just . . . hoping . hoping that felix is alright . ]
