*Tess stops in mid sniff and glares at the robot, radiating offended pride.*

Puberty?! I’m eighteen! That ain’t puberty tha-holyfucknodon’ttouchme!

*Ad gentle as the robot is, the young Khan reacts to being reached for by a metal claw with nothing short of panic. This is it, it was all a trick, that thing’s going to crush her throat now! Eyes wide, her jerks back and drops her apple. But after nothing more than a soft pat on the head, the robot pulls back, and does nothing. 

Tess doesn’t know how to process this. Still watching the robot like she expects it to attack any moment, she slowly crouches and reaches for the apple.*

…fuckin’. Fuckin’ weird-ass robot, you are…

[Sasha lets out a caring beep and a whir. She hovers gently in front of Tess, the lens on the front of her body following her movements as she drops the apple.] Puberty may continue throughout the late teenage years until the human body is sufficiently grown.

[There's a pause as she watches the girl pick the food up from the ground, then a somewhat offended beep.] Please wipe your snack before proceeding. Dirt is not part of a balanced diet for growing girls and consumption of debris may cause illness.

((IT JUST OCCURRED TO ME that I never posted an actual description of Sasha's voice. Someone asked me about it once off Tumblr and I just never??? Thought???? To describe it to anyone else.

She doesn't have the standard Mister Handy voice, but a really deep (but still feminine-coded) voice. It sometimes crackles or breaks a little when she talks because of damage, wear, and age, but it's about as pleasant as soothing as a robot's voice can get. The person who handled coding her wanted to make sure she was able to put the kids under her care at ease.))

*Tess is as tense as an animal in headlights, and as the robot’s claw moves she gives another little jump back. Watching the claw suspiciously, she is visibly amazed and flummoxed when the thing produces a piece of fruit.

But… it’s metal. Metal’s dead. Fruit can’t come from dead things… can it?*

I… I am grown! An’ I don’t need no… no fuckin’ pity, okay, I can hunt for myself…

*As she prattles on the young Khan slowly inches closer, before suddenly snatching the apple and scampering back a safe distance from the robot again. She sniffs the fruit, wondering if there’s anything wrong with it.*

[handymama]

[When Tess grabs the apple, Sasha lets out an approving beep.] Response noted: child wishes acknowledgement of growth and personal maturity. Diagnosis of behavior: puberty. Please stand by for positive reinforcement.

[The clawed hand reaches out and pats the girl's head in a surprisingly gentle fashion.] Good girl. You have blossomed into a beautiful young woman. I am very proud of you.

Reinforcement complete. Please proceed with snack time. [She withdraws her hand and hovers, waiting for Tess to finish eating her snack.]

[handymama]

[The robot pauses, hovering in mid-air indecisively. She lets out another click.] Child appears to be displaying signs of aggression and agitation.

Diagnosis: hunger.

*The robot doesn’t seem to be coming any closer, which gives Tess pause. She still holds her gun warily.*

…I ain’t hungry. An’ I ain’t a child.

[handymama]

[The robot doesn't seem to notice (or care) that the girl's holding a rifle. Instead, she lets out a click and digs an intimidating claw hand into a compartment on her back and comes up with a small apple. She offers it to Tess.]

Children require proper nutrition to grow up big and strong. Please fulfill your nutrition requirements now.

[handymama]

[EYES IT UP, WONDERING IF THERE'S ANY GOOD SCRAP ELECTRONICS INSIDE]

[Makes a quiet clicking noise, then speaks.] Greetings, child unit. Where is your mother?

[handymama]

[Since the child is no longer protesting, Sasha takes this as a greenlight to begin gently rocking him from side-to-side.]

[HE SCRAMBLES AWAY FROM THE ROBOT.] What the hell. Who programmed you and where I can go to strangle them?

[Sasha lets out an indignant beep.] Children should not use such language. Please phrase inquiry in the form of a polite question.

[Floats by, whirring and beeping. She stops when she sees Tess, however, and makes a weird clicking noise.] Child. Where is your mother unit?

*Tess gives a startled little jump when she spots the robot, and skitters back a few steps.*

Fuck!

Wh-child?! I ain’t-

*The robot floating closer seems to panic her further, and she scrambles at the rifle hanging from her shoulder.*

Hey! Back off!

[handymama]

[The robot pauses, hovering in mid-air indecisively. She lets out another click.] Child appears to be displaying signs of aggression and agitation.

Diagnosis: hunger.

[Floats by, whirring and beeping. She stops when she sees Tess, however, and makes a weird clicking noise.] Child. Where is your mother unit?

*Tess gives a startled little jump when she spots the robot, and skitters back a few steps.*

Fuck!

[handymama]

[Sasha lets out an almost scolding beep and floats closer.] Begin reprimand. Child should not use such language.

End reprimand.

[handymama]

[EYES IT UP, WONDERING IF THERE'S ANY GOOD SCRAP ELECTRONICS INSIDE]

[Makes a quiet clicking noise, then speaks.] Greetings, child unit. Where is your mother?

[handymama]

[Sasha bobs up and down a bit, pulling her camera away.] Lullaby request denied. Beginning nap time procedure.

[There’s another quiet whir as she flexes her rather lethal looking arms. One reaches into a small compartment in the back of her chassis and produces an absurdly small, worn blanket. She drapes it loosely over Trader’s shoulders and gently wraps her metal appendages around him.]

Commencing rocking sequence. Please engage in sweet dreams.
