The last post I just reblogged was making me think of this but the way the family kind of torments Teruaki for being gay. Grandma says get in the bridal gown so I can fake threaten your cousin you like into getting married to a random woman but you’re the random woman. “Hey wouldn’t it be so sad for these women to be away from Gero because they love him? Anyways come along now on the other side of those walls.” And “Oh yeah we’re going to marry you to your cousins lesbian sister. Sounds good right?” It’s interesting bc in their interactions with Akari and Teruaki there’s never any moments where the family out loud explicitly says “we don’t like gay people,” but there’s all sorts of both these little passive aggressive jabs and the constant assumption that they can override their autonomy at any time, and that every time that will mean being forced into a heterosexual mold. There is no alternative offered, and no compromise
