Dean pushed his way past the other vault hunters, stepping and nearly stumbling over the corpses of scientists, soldiers and engineers. The ECHO logs they'd found discussing a failed experiment, a failed Siren, it disturbed each of them to a great extent. Upon finally finding it however, it only ran, almost afraid. That was what confused him the most, and after a short discussion, he decided to step into a room the bot had hidden in.

"Hey, don't- don't kill me." He spoke out, pushing the door open further and peeking his head in. "I mean no harm."

"Long as you don't hurt me and the others the way you did those guys... I think we can get along just fine, Harper." His hands completely dropped to his sides now, but his posture remained tense. He would've loved to sit there and talk (really, with all the goddamn chaos on Pandora, a nice break would be a miracle) but he knew they had to get the hell out of there.

With a quick nod of his head to the door, he continued. "We really do have to move fast though, they send a few, and suddenly it's a damn army. They don't wanna lose you from what I've heard." He ever so slowly took his assault rifle off of his back and into his hands, "Stick with me, yeah?"

Harper finally stood at her full height, tensing a bit when the gun was drawn. Swiftly she left her corner and approached the taller human. She stared for another moment, eyes pulsing with the energy from those god forsaken magic rocks they call elements. Then she smiled lightly, and nodded. Seemingly happy she now had friends, multiple! And so fast to!

“I will, I will! I’ll show you the exit door too Dean, my friend Dean.” Seems she still didn’t quite grasp how to properly talk with people. Sheltered robots, am I right?

All these questions were flooding into the Harpy project’s head as her whole body pulsed. Nothing was correct, nothing felt safe anymore. This became more clear when she heard the voice come from the other side of the door. There was no exit, no escape, no hope. She scrambled into the farthest corner as fast as she could, knocking herself over in the process. All she could do was cower and stare at the strange man who poked his head in to see her.

“....Please...” Her vague request came out in a wavering and unsure voice.

He frowned at the sight, sliding his revolver into his pocket before stepping in with his hands up, a sign of peace, security, for it at least. "It's alright, see? I got nothing, just you and me..." Dean stepped in a little closer, leaving the door open. Maybe it'd help it's conscious a bit, maybe it wouldn't, he didn't know.

"You got a name?" He asked as gently as he could, it was almost like talking to a fearful child. Bad part was, he was terrible with kids, so they'd have to settle for this.

She stopped shaking when he showed he had nothing on him, yet remained on the ground. It’s better to be extra sure. His question confused her though, of course she had a name. It was right on her chest.

But to be fair, she never did quite like how it sounded. Maybe with this she can come up with a nicer sounding one. She glanced from her chest to the man. “H…Harp…Harper. I am Harper.” She fidgeted a moment, trying to constrain her moving body panels.

“Am I in trouble? Is that what all this is? I have no clue..”

Dean nodded, Harper, he liked that name.

"No, no trouble, okay? Those guys you killed.. they were bad. Real bad, we all heard about what they were doing... You're okay." He continued, taking another step towards her. Not too fast, not too much. If he wanted to get her out of here,

"I'm Dean." He finally introduced, his hands lowering, but not completely falling as he continued to talk to her. "I don't wanna rush you, you don't have much reason to trust me- but those guys? They're probably sending even more of their friends over here to take us out, they hate me just as much as they hate you right now."

Once again, she hesitated. Harper processed this all at a fast speed but it was still so shocking. She figured that the doctors and engineers here weren’t the best but if Dean’s words were true then maybe she shouldn’t feel too bad about blowing them apart. The more she thought, the more she calmed down.

Slowly, the robot began to rise from the floor to stand and face the stranger. Dean, the stranger. “Don’t want that. Are you...friend? I’d follow you if I knew you were a friend.”

Entering his apartment and kicking the door shut behind him, Dean let out a hefty breath before walking further inside. One crimson red hand turned on the lights from the switch on the wall while he moved to the bathroom, going to wash himself of the blood that was currently splattered across his hands.

Too many nights were like this, some worse than others, but that didn't mean they all weren't bad. This time he'd been lucky enough to not encounter any other things swinging at him but fists, the thing was there were a lot more than usual. He couldn't figure out if he really was just so good that not even 6 pricks could take him down together, or if he'd been lucky that they couldn't fight. He figured it was a mix of the two, as even if you can't fight, having the strength of 6 men against one usually means you win. Keyword, usually.

When they couldn't keep him down, it became a grappling match. One that each lost, not expecting the use of elbows and knees. The last one had been pushed back, losing his balance and falling on his ass, which led to Dean breaking his facial structure with his fists. Something he regretted heavily now, as he was more than certain he'd busted his knuckles a lot worse than usual.

Cold water ran over his hands and he hissed out in response, Dean didn't bother turning on the light as the one out in the main room somewhat illuminated the bathroom. That and he didn't really want to see the state of himself in the mirror, if he looked as bad as he felt, he'd be comparative in looks to actual shit.

With his hands at least somewhat cleaned, he started going through the drawers. He had to have some medkit or bandages laying around somewhere, it was him for Christs sake! He couldn't name the last time he'd run out of them, but as time ticked by and he still was unable to find himself any sort of medical supplies, a realization hit. "Fuck.." He grumbled, pinching the bridge of his nose with still slightly stained fingers.

They'd all been left at Ali's house, figuring that he didn't need them at the time due to how high out of his mind he was. He gave them over as Ali had been clumsier, to the point that he burned his arm on the stove without even realizing it until they both smelled flesh in the air. Funny, but now he was wondering how he was doing, damn good session.

Never the matter, he could.. shit, what could he do?

Attempting to make some shoddy supplies to fix himself up with would both be a waste of time and too painful for his most likely broken hands. That led him to the next best option, calling someone. But who the hell could come and help him at this hour?

He certainly didn't trust Reaper with this, that guy probably didn't even trust himself to do it. Jess was in the forest, by the time she'd get there he would've been better off just heading to Ali's house, damnit. Each one had a reason for not being able to come and help him out in his mind, so he continued going to the list until he found the final one. Hannah.

Hannah was the only option he had. If what she'd told him before about always being ready to help because she cared was true, which he really, REALLY hoped it was right now.. this was the only chance he'd have at getting some help. Hopefully that son of a bitch knew what she'd be doing, that was, if she even answered.

In a matter of seconds, Dean had made his way back to the living room while taking out his phone. It was nothing short of a miracle that it hadn't flown out of his pockets during the brawl, but now was no time to think about that. He unlocked it with the code and went to contacts, scrolling down until he saw the name he'd made for Hannah.

Fucking Toon [Hannah]

One thumb pressed down onto the call icon, and the phone began to ring. Dean held it up to his ear, standing there and looking down while biting at his lip. Each second without an answer felt like an hour at a time like this, he'd only have to go through a few before a voice came through on the other end.

"Son!" Ever so cheery even in the dead of night, Hannah greeted. "Whaddya need?" She asked, to which Dean took a few moments to reply. "I, uhm.. you got a medkit, or somethin'?" He responded with a question of his own, hearing the sharp breath over the phone from her. She was dumb, but clearly not dumb enough to not see why he needed one. It didn't seem like the time to ask what had happened, "I can get something. Want me to come over?" The questions continued, "Yeah, let me get you my address-" "Already got it!" ...

"What?" Dean mumbled, going to speak again before Hannah cut him off, "I'll be there soon!"

And just like that, she hung up, leaving Dean standing there with a sudden sense of unease. Christ, how'd he get himself mixed up with people, or.. things, like this?

He was somewhat grateful, saved time for the both of them. And knowing Hannah, she'd be there nearly immediately. She had the uncanny ability to just kind of... Appear at point B, trying to look into it further led to her not explaining much and actually leaving Dean more confused, so much so to the point that he just quit trying altogether.

Knowing she'd be there any second, Dean sat down on his couch, not bothering to kick off his boots or anything like that. He simply laid his head back and waited to see or hear Hannah's entrance.. but then a minute passed by, and there was nothing. Odd, but okay.

Then two.

Then five.

And by six, he had quit his hoping entirely. Were it anyone else, a normal human, Dean would've continued to wait for even an hour. But that's not what Hannah was, no, he'd seen her appear nearly immediately when she'd been miles away seconds before. Great.

Just another person who said they wanted to give a shit, and then did something like this. The only thing he needed now was for her to go "something came up" when he asked her about it, he could already hear it in her sickeningly sweet voice now. Agh, he couldn't think about that. He'd just have to see if some drugstore was open, maybe they'd have something-

Was that knocking?

Sudden and sharp, it drew Dean's attention. He stared over at the door with narrowing eyes before approaching, his boots thudding against the floor before he reached out and opened it. Recoiling slightly at the sight of who had been knocking, Hannah, with a smile on her face in stark contrast to his own.

Getting a proper look at him now, Hannah could tell why he had called for help. She'd seen him banged and bruised up before, but he'd always strayed away from everyone during those times, repairing himself in the confines of these walls.

"...you came." He finally mumbled out, it took a second for the words to process in Hannah's head, but when they did she cocked her head to the side in confusion. Well, of course she came! Why wouldn't she?

"You called." She simply said, "Now c'mon, I might've overpacked a little-" Upon saying that, she reached behind her back and took out a comically large briefcase, damn near double the size of Dean's chest. His eyes widened at that, he supposed he should've seen something like that coming by now.

Without speaking, he motioned for her to come inside further with him as he went around to the couch where they could both sit. She shut the door behind her and followed closely, taking note of the used bandages and bloodstains that were scattered about the floor. She'd have to come through here eventually, clean up, this was a mess. Of course she wouldn't say that aloud now, rather rude.

She set down the briefcase onto his table that was just barely reaching up to the couch's seats in terms of height, popping it open revealed a myriad of medical supplies. "Where'd you get all that stuff?" Dean questioned, pointing a finger at it while staring to her, in response she simply shrugged. "A gal has her ways, my boy." Ominous, but he felt as though that was all he'd get in response to those questions.

As time went by and Hannah continued to wrap up Dean's bandages, humming some tune while he listened intently, wondering if it was something he'd heard or if she'd just made it up. Both seemed just as likely, but he didn't feel like cutting through with his own voice. He stayed quiet, and it stayed that way for the rest of the time she was there. Without needing to say anything, she knew he was deeply grateful, just from the fact he didn't take the briefcase and throw her out.

Although she still was confused as to why he had been surprised at her arrival, albeit a late one, she decided she wouldn't question him about it. Whenever he felt like talking about it, he'd come to her. It was just a hunch, but she felt pretty confident in it.

A bar was the last place you'd expect to find Dean King, with his hatred for alcohol and the drunks inside, but he had gotten to a point where he needed something to help him get over the events of the past few weeks. From getting his ass kicked by a dozer on a heist to arguing with other members of the Payday gang, it'd started to become too much for him, but he couldn't just leave, not now.

So there he sat, on a stool that hurt his ass with a cheap bottle of beer in his bandaged hand. While wrapped up in his own thoughts, he didn't even notice the sound of someone else walking into the building.

It wasn't long before tears began to well up in the criminals eyes, still he kept his composure.. for the most part. "Hannah, please-" he began, voice cracking, "just.. go home. I can't be the reason any of you get tracked, or hurt- or.." The waterworks began, muffled and choked back at first, but present nonetheless. "Didnt you think, just for a second, that if I had the chance to come back safely- I would have?"

Anger bubbled up inside his chest, but it wasn't directed at her. He was upset, upset over the entire situation. He'd fucked up again, and there was no fixing it. "Staying here, no contact, i-.. it was to keep all of you safe, you were better off without me anyways. Now more than ever."

Empathetic tears began to creep over her eyelids as well. Her boy, her poor sweet boy was clearly doing what he believed was best for her. For everyone. Dear lord, he truly convinced himself that he was gonna get her killed. And it would be his fault. No, this will not do.

“I can’t agree with you on that. But...right now you seem to know what you want. Getting close to the criminal but not enough to touch, she reached her hand out in a shaky but professional looking manner. “So, why don’t you just promise me you’ll stay outta death’s reach. And I’ll do the same, my boy.”

Her smile pinched out the two small tears that were held at bay.

Hesitance followed, his own bandaged hand reached forward ever so slightly before stopping, hanging midair as Dean thought. Or, tried to at least. He had been missing his family more than anything, his mother especially. Continuing with this would keep their connection alive, not present, but still alive. Was it worth it? Fuck, he didn't know. He guaranteed that she'd go back and tell the others, and he didn't know if they'd go looking or simply roll their eyes and go back to living their lives without him. Something he wanted them to do, yes, but something that killed him at the same time.

Dean gripped onto her hand before he could think anymore, giving a nod and waiting a few seconds before speaking softly.

"...you guys won't forget about me, right?"

The content sigh that left her was a weight off her constrained lungs. Her hood was pulled down by the free hand she then used to pat his arm. She smiled warmly before responding to her damaged boy.

“My sweet silly guy, of course we won’t. Call it cheesy but love remains for those so far away.” She chuckled again, softer this time. “Now you go give em hell, whoever it is you’re up against.”

Dean moved faster than he could even think, he had to get anywhere else. If she found him, who knows who else could? Shit, had she brought any of the others along? No, he wasnt going to stick around to find out, to hell with that. He was getting out of here, he'd find some place to hide out before heading back to the others when no one was looking.

But he'd been turning his head left and right to keep an eye out, just in case, and when he glanced to the side- he was able to see her once again in his peripheral view. Skidding on the concrete to a halt suddenly she paused at the question. What exactly WAS she doing. It couldn’t have been smart now that was for sure. But at this point it was all or nothing. She’d rather be sure of something than be smart about it.

“Making sure you’re walking safe.” She fiddled a bit with her hoodie strings as she talked. Distracted as always but somehow keeping her attention on him. “You’re carrying yourself dangerously and you’re talking like I’ll get killed by talking to you. The least I wanna know is if you’re safe wherever you’re goin.”

"I'm fine, you won't be if you keep following me." As much as it killed him to continue pushing Hannah away like this, he really had no other choice. "Y'know what'll happen if someone finds out you're talking to me? God forbid it's one of the bastards who wants me dead, you'd be bringing back danger for the rest of 'em!" Dean whisper shouted, still glancing side to side at every possible moment.

Fuck, he hated this. He hated having to do this, and it was even harder since it was her, the only woman who stuck around and didn't fuck him up. But he had to, he had to.

"Why don't you just go home?" He asked, "Why'd you even look for me?"

“Just wanted...to check up on you. Say hi n’ all that. Wasn’t gonna stay that long.” She sounded and looked like she was deflating with every word. She hated to have any one get hurt on her account and wanted to fix it by leaving right then. But she loved her boy, so she stayed.

Step step step came the tapping of the short woman’s feet. It took her quite a while to find her way around this place and even longer to find who she wanted. But Hannah wasn’t necessarily human so it wasn’t necessarily hard to find him either. Neither was slipping under people’s noses as she entered the place. 

That was something she and her son Dean had in common, they never really liked drinking. So it was extra odd for her when she sensed him inside. But at the moment the only thing she really cared for was checking up on the boy that had up and left and went under the name “King” now. Ever the comic, she coughed curtly.

“Anyone sitting here?”

King jolted upright at the familiar voice before turning around to look at the other, his eyes widened with confusion overtaking him. A million thoughts raced through his head, and he couldn't understand one of them. Opening his mouth, no words left, despite the obvious attempt he was making at speaking. What would he start with? Questions? Apologies? A joke? None of those were what he went with, instead a barely audible "fuck" left his lips.

The bottle he'd been drinking from was gripped tightly as he continued staring in a mix of complete disbelief, and fear. Sure, Hannah wasn't what you'd call frightening, not in the slightest. But he was afraid of whatever she was going to say next, it could've been anything, he didn't know how she reacted to his sudden exit from the state.

"How did.. how did you find me?"

He giggled a bit as she sat down in the stool next to him. His face was priceless! He was speechless, the usual effect she tended to have on people.

“I dunno! I just did! Friendly motherly instinct or whatever I call it. Besides is a gal not allowed to come over and give a quick hello to her son boy that ran away from home!” She fiddled a bit with one of the napkins nearby on the counter. “Or Hell as you called it plenty of times.” She chuckled at her own joke, not realizing the effects going on here.

He was quiet for a few moments before leaning in close, his teeth bearing as he spoke lowly. "You can't be seen with me, do you get that?" Her jokes did nothing but aggravate him right now, did she not understand the gravity of this situation? It was obvious she didn't, based on how she was acting. "Are you-?! ..gh, fuck this."

Pulling back, Dean set the bottle down onto the bar and got up. He reached into his suit jacket and took out a $5 bill and put it next to the unfinished drink before he hurriedly began to walk out of the building. Nudging past other patrons and finally going out the doors, he knew he couldn't go back to the safehouse immediately, so he turned right and began walking, wherever it led him didn't matter at the moment. He just needed to get away from here. Away from her.

Needless to say she was a bit stunned. Not very surprised considering how he’d usually react to her antics but still, it hurt to hear. Can’t be seen with him? Well that meant something bad must’ve happened! Some other gang was hanging around him running a muck! Now she had to make sure he was okay!

She ran out the bar a good 30 seconds after he did and was fully prepared to run after him screaming as she saw him in the distance. But she paused as she opened her mouth. Something was off. 

He seemed much more adamant about getting away. Being away. From her of all people. It left a sour feeling in her soul that made her quietly frown. Despite this, she kept her resolve. Quickly she threw her red hood over her overly fluffy hair as she quietly caught back up to Dean. The least she can do is make sure he’s safe.

“I miss Oklahoma......at least there I wasn’t worried about being watched by super criminals....maybe I should go to a new museum.”

It was an hour before closing at the Community Downtown Art Museum and Hannah was just about ready to go. She usually stayed this late, not that many guests, she can get great service here for work and she usually had the whole place to herself. She usually cleaned up early so that when the clock hit midnight, she could get up and go easy. Simple! It’s something she did every night! Nothing can go wrong!!!

Pause. What? She didn’t even notice the elevation as she performed mental gymnastics to understand this fuckery. 

I mean, yeah the place had a broom. It was for cleaning but Hannah would occasionally use it on unruly participants. This was rare and usually only for assholes who hate seeing people have fun or just general nuisances. Even with this, she would still sometimes let criminals in unintentionally. There were no background checks here! Everyone was welcome! Though today she did have to use the broom on one guy that came in. He kept trying to touch clearly labeled “no touching” statues. It wasn’t his own fault though, poor guy looked too big to even understand what was going on about it half the time. He did look a little familiar to one of the Sinister Six members but Hannah figure this was ju-WAIT!

“ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE RHINO??!?!” Her fear dissipated for only a moment when she finally got the puzzle together. Good for her.

A simple nod was all she got at first before he gently shook her in the air. It wasn’t anything to worry about, just a warning. “He wasn’t doing rhino things then… he’s Uncle Alex.” Wowie! The terrifying horror movie child is saying this to her in the same tone a 7 year old would use to explain that theres a difference between a witch potion made of mud and a cake batter made of mud! How could she get these simple things confused? It’s very obvious!

Fear fully restored with the shaking, she began to plead her case.

“W-Well I’m so so sorry!! Of course it’s different! I just d-don’t know the guy personally!!! My b  a d heheeee. But LISTEN Li st en, buddy. I uh….didn’t m e an to um…..hurt him?? I guess?? I just wanted to keep all the statues in tact!! I care about art!!! that’s not my fault! Is it?? I dunno just please get me closer to the grooooound.” Her voice fluctuations really sold how terrified she was in this situation!!

She was no longer elevating but she was still in the air. The kid seemed to be thinking this over… he came to make things right but… if she apologised didn’t that do the work for him? But would Uncle Alex accept the apology? He wasn’t here but he probably would. He always accept Marine’s apologies when he did something wrong. But did this even count as a apology? A lot of people told it that his apologies weren’t apologies, so what did count? Only one way to make sure!

“Are you sorry?” Oops! Came out a little bit more intimidating than intented there!

Still shaking, she took a calm deep breath and looked the child directly in the eyes.

“Y E S” Oh she sounded like she was ready to cry. “YES I AM SO SORRY!! I JUST WANT TO KEEP THE ART COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND CARE TOO MUCH AND IM IMPULSIVE AND STUPID AND CANT HELP BEING SO SO PASSIONATE ABOUT THINGS!! I WILL GIVE YOU SO MANY OF OUR MARKETABLE ITEMS AND SUCKERS IF YOU PLEASE DONT KI LLA MEEEEEE” Ah, normal begging.

He looks at her for a moment more before just saying “Okay” and with that she drops unceremoniously to the floor. Great job putting her down. “You sound really sorry so it’s ok” As if he didn’t just terrify the shit out of the woman, and now whats this terrifying child doing? Turning the lights back on and just walking further into the museum to take a looksie at things of course! But not the cameras, no sadly he broke them beyond repair. Normal kid things.

She sat there for a bit. Just, y’know, to process things. Mostly the fact that she did all that hysteria for nothing. And also that she was spared from probably a worse fate than most had with this kid. This kid who had a villain as an uncle, hell, maybe more!

And a child that was also now unattended in the museum. She got up and checked the clock. 11:25. Uggggh, alright.
