My journal for 2021
Hi everyone!
Recently I decided to try some bullet journaling. I decided to make a different approach to this. Insted planning yearly or monthly, I decided to treat it as a memory book, a sketch book and just ramble there about anything. I found it very relaxing.
Here are the pages from my journal. I only have three of them but I really enjoyed maing them.
This is the cover - I remaked the previous one. I have just added the brown paper as base and then added some pictures and stickers
This is the first page, simple, clean and mimnimalistic. I used it to write down universities I want to go to and the requierments.
The second page is just a plan, list of places I want to visit and some thing I want to do there.
Third page is just some rambling about stuff I like and decorating it with some pictures and stickers.
I enjoy doing it and I'm glad I didn't restriced myself to the standard bullet journaling (I know that bullet journaling is also about creativity but it focuses mainly on planning) and decided to treated as my diary :D I highly recommend doing something similar even if you don't have any artistic talents :)
I you decide to try it and post it here on tumblr, please tag me. I'd love to see how creative you all are!
Love <3

dark academia but STEM
- pinning the most difficult equations you solved to your wall. Or just the ones you find beautiful
- lots of plants, their names written in the pots. Trying different ways to grow them.
- always having lab gloves in your bag or pockets.
- writing ideas for projects in messy notes, putting them between the pages of your notebooks and forgetting about it
- hands dirty with black ink because youâve been writing for too long too fast
- massive books under your arms, laptop full of carefully tagged papers while the printed ones are a total mess
- insane eyes and absolute euphoria when you finally understand not only the concept, but where did it came from and how it applies on your daily life
- hair always in a bun or ponytails, short finger nails and none jewelry because ~lab rules~
- searching until late at night the exact equipment the scientists used long ago, what methods they used and imagining how would it be to be in their place.
- Feeling as comfortable in the lab as in the library.
- you hate Victor Frankenstein but legit understand why.
- sore eyes from microscope or screen light, aching backs, still not wanting to leave
- looking at people and thinking about how they truly are: organs, cells, molecules, atoms, protons, eletrons, quarks, leptonsâŠ. nothing as one would think, everything, all the same, too big, too little, all pieces from a big puzzle
- dreaming about the topic you were studying last day
- having an idea about a paper while talking to your friends. Remembering that is not your field and going crazy because SOMEONE needs to research it.
- you are crazy to read some fiction but there are too many papers waiting for youÂ
- You should be used by now but sometimes still get distracted about how graphics changes according to compartments added.
- finishing a big problem and just staring at it, amazed by how it was unfolded and reorganized until you get to the final answerÂ
- âwe donât knowâŠ.yetâ
- ethics committee?? How about just test it myself, uh?(that new receipt that later comes out a absolute disaster)
- suddenly knowing how to solve a problem in the middle of a lunch
- notebooks margins filled with equations or formulas vs pages almost blank, with just one note or two
- mental breakdowns after classes thay change your perspective completely
- knowing that the truth depends on how further you can see. Weâre always getting closer. Never there.
- Looking at an art piece, wondering what kind of ink was used, how it was when it was made, how time has affected it

It looks fun so Iâll try!
GOOD STUDYING VS BAD STUDYING
GOOD STUDYING
Use recall. When you look at a passage and try to study it, Â look away and recall the main ideas. Try recalling concepts when you are walking to class or in a different room from where you originally learned it. An ability to recallâto generate the ideas from inside yourselfâis one of the key indicators of good learning.
Test yourself. On everything. All the time. Flashcards are your best friend. Use quizlet if you donât want to hand-make flashcards. Get somebody to test you on your notes.
Space your repetition. Spread out your learning in any subject a little every day, just like an athlete. Donât sit and study one subject for 2 hours, do half an hour every day.
Take breaks. It is common to be unable to solve problems or figure out concepts in math or science the first time you encounter them. This is why a little study every day is much better than a lot of studying all at once. When you get frustrated, take a break so that another part of your mind can take over and work in the background. You need breaks in order for your brain to retain the information. Try the Pomodoro method if you have trouble timing breaks!
Use simple analogies. Whenever you are struggling with a concept, think to yourself, How can I explain this so that a ten-year-old could understand it? Using an analogy really helps. Say it out loud, like youâre teaching it, whether itâs to an imaginary class or your sister who couldnât care less. Â The additional effort of teaching out loud allows you to more deeply encode.
Focus. Turn off your phone / iPad / any distractions and clear your desk of everything you do not need. Use apps like Forest if you canât stay off them!
Do the hardest thing earliest in the day, when youâre wide awake and less likely to push it aside.
BAD STUDYING
Avoid these techniquesâthey can waste your time even while they fool you into thinking youâre learning!
Passive rereadingâsitting passively and running your eyes back over a page. This is a waste of time, frankly, and doesnât do anything to help information pass into your brain without recall.
Over-highlighting. Colouring a passage of text in highlighter isnât helpful at all. Itâs good for flagging up key points to trigger concepts and information, but make sure what you highlight goes in.
Waiting until the last minute to study. DONâT CRAM!!!
Doing what you know. This isnât studying! This is like learning how to juggle but only throwing one ball.Â
Neglecting the textbook. Would you dive into a pool before you knew how to swim? The textbook is your swimming instructorâit guides you toward the answers.Â
Not asking your teachers for help. They are used to lost students coming in for guidanceâitâs their job to help you.Â
Not getting enough sleep. Your brain practices and repeats whatever you put in mind before you go to sleep, as well as retaining information and repairing itself. Prolonged fatigue allows toxins to build up in the brain that disrupts the neural connections you need to think quickly and well.Â
my quick tips for working / studying from home
- get dressed and style your hair as if youâre going to school/work - even use the same perfume/ cologne as you normally do (trick your mind into being motivated)
- plan things out - everything (plan out your week, day, meal, etc. you can make these as specific as youâd like. this will help you stay on top of your work as well as stay healthy, especially if you live alone.)
- make studying/ working the first thing you do each day - best if you can start in the morning (minimize the tendency to procrastinate)
- just start - donât worry too much about perfecting or finishing anything yet (if you donât start then thereâs nothing for you to perfect or get done. and it will never get done)
- listen to old and simple (aka non-distracting) podcasts, Youtube videos, or cafĂ©/ chattering white-noise, etc. simply leave them as background noise to create an illusion of being outside your room (bring the presence of people to you. my favorites lately have been slam poems from 2016, Mae Martinâs stages, and Awsten Knightâs crackhead podcasts)
- set timers, for both study sessions and breaks (so that you donât overwork, burn out, or procrastinate. the Pomodoro technique works great here)
- take advantage of the comfort of your own home (light a candle, have crunchy snacks, play loud music, review notes out loud while pacing around, wrap yourself in a blanket burrito, study on your bed if you can focus there like me, etc. basically anything you canât do in a classroom, office, or the library)
- if you miss your friends, call/ text/ facetime them, make a study group chat with them, etc. (that is what technology is for)
- choose recreational activities/ self-care for your breaks instead of going on social media (go on walks, make small art, play an instrument, stretch, take a nap, etc. I usually reach for my guitar, brainstorm writing ideas, or sketch very simple line art.)
- if you want to go on social media, do it during meal times - or the 15 minutes after your meals that you canât work just yet (it also doesnât make you feel like youâre wasting time)
- study in different rooms for a change of scenery (dining room, living room, the patio, etc. I have an armchair next to the window that I study in whenever I need some sunlight and donât have to write anything down. however, if you need a designated place to focus on your work, you can also use these alternative spaces as designated ârelaxâ or âcreativeâ place for your breaks)
- use this as an opportunity to take care of yourself (get enough sleep, drink water, exercise, talk to your family, take your meds, be mindful of your mental health, etc.)
Feel free to add your tips. The current situation sure is unpleasant but it is unavoidable. All we can really do now is take care of ourselves, others, and try to make the best out of this.
Good luck to everyone and stay safe! My heart is with you all đ
